How I Escaped the Mormon Temple [Ex-BYU prof tells how her family was rescued from legalistic cult]
Christianity Today ^ | Nov. 22, 2013 | Lynn Wilder

...For eight years, I had been a professor at Brigham Young University...

I looked down on Christians...They had part of the gospel, but I had the fullness of it. I kept the laws and ordinances of Mormonism.

Three weeks before the end of his two-year mission, Micah called to tell us he was being sent home early—a horrific disgrace in Mormon culture. He had been reading the New Testament. There he encountered a different Jesus than the one I was taught about in Mormonism—a God of grace, not of works, so that no one can boast...

To a roomful of missionaries at his parting testimony, Micah had professed faith in Jesus alone and not the Mormon Church. He told them he had found a deep and genuine faith—one that didn't include Mormonism. It did not go over well. Church leaders told us that Micah had the spirit of the Devil in him, sent him home, and subsequently, back in Utah, invited us to bring him before the high council...

Micah pleaded, "Mom and Dad, please read the New Testament." We commenced. As I read, I became increasingly consumed by reading about the God of grace. I barely ate or slept. It's all I wanted to do.

...In John's gospel, I read, "These are the very scriptures that testify of me yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Salvation did not require the Mormon Church, only Jesus...

...on a chilly October evening in 2006, Michael and I settled in with Katie in our basement to watch the movie Luther. My heart pounded as I learned of the reformer's struggle against the Catholic Church. I seemed to be facing a similar struggle: Did I believe the Mormon system of obedience to laws and ordinances would secure my forgiveness?

Mormon teppe states: "God is the literal Father of Jesus Christ .... not the 1st face of a god with a three-way personality disorder!"

This is proof of antichristian (and antiFReeper) doctrine.

From a post by Jim Robinson, "Free Republic is a pro-God site. The one and only true Judeo-Christian God as taught to us by KJV with no additional editing or books of fiction..I have zero faith in Joseph Smith or his so-called Mormon religion and do not want it taught on FR as gospel. Joe Smith was a false prophet and his book is false gospel (look it up in KJV). Those who cannot live with that are certainly free to post elsewhere."

So some are right some are wrong. And you have to ask yourself who the authority is? I would suggest taking a look at Matthew 16: 18-22.

You make a good point but i believe although Jesus named Peter, he was also directing it to the other apostles.

And what were the apostles to teach? just what they had seen and heard which they did.

Peter was obviously the leader although Jesus told them plainly that there would not be any one of them that was going to be in authority above the others.

He was given the leadership by the holy spirit and this was witnessed by the others.

It is also plain that James was considered the head of the Church at Jerusalem and this also not by his authority but agreement of the apostles.

The teachings of Jesus was what the apostles were to teach and that is what they did, that is the only reason we have the four Gospels.

If it was meant to start a religion such as Mormonism or Catholicism or any other ism why is it so silent in the scripture about it?

God sent the Holy spirit to get the thing done which he wanted done, and that was to give us the scripture
concerning his son because it is only in him that we
can be saved.

So yes, i believe that St Peter is the authority along with the other eleven apostles and no where do they tell me that i need to join Catholicism, Mormonism or any other religion to be saved.

My belief come from the Gospels.

***Mormons are the staunchest conservative demographic***

Politically conservative but religiously wrong.

My experience with mormons is that they are totally ignorant of anything in the New Testament. Even common verses most 5th grade church classes know about, mormons are ignorant.

While honoring the bible, they treat it as if it’s words were battery acid to be avoided.

Absolutely not.
Salvation is ONLY through Jesus Christ!

But, with the new Same Sex law, if Mormons George marries Tom, and Tom marries Bill, and Bill marries Harry, and Harry marries Wally, and Waly marries George, couldn’t this be considered polygamy and they all go off to their own world and ...ah.. I’d better stop there.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, following historic Christian theology since the time of the early Church Fathers, refers to the Catholic Church as “the universal sacrament of salvation” (CCC 774–776), and states: “The Church in this world is the sacrament of salvation, the sign and the instrument of the communion of God and men” (CCC 780).

Are you saying the Catholic Church, the Church that Jesus founded, is wrong?

***I would be a Mormon even if I believed that Joseph Smith was not a prophet***

You owe me a new keyboard. With that attitude why not believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the First Preslyteryan church of Elvis the Divine!

I am happy to enlighten both Mormons and Protestants. The evangelization of the following groups will only cease when the Final Judgement occurs: 1. Catholics who are uninformed about Catholic teaching 2. Non-Catholic Christians 3. Everyone else

Mormons correctly recognize that salvation is through a hierarchical church. This is plainly scriptural. The problem is that they are in the wrong church. Salvation is through the Catholic Church.

That's not what Jesus says.....

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Nor Peter

Acts 4:11-12 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Any cult that teaches that Satan and Jesus are half-brothers is demonically inspired and anyone who believes that is going to hell.

Says the silly polytheist who thinks there are three gods, and that, if he is good enough, he will also become a god of his own planet:

Ironic, is it not? That's what deception will do to you. Completely short circuit your ability to reason.

Scripture proclaims Itself to be incomplete at the end of the Gospel of John.

How ironic that posting Scripture to support sola scriptura is invalid, but posting Scripture to support Scripture not being complete is valid.

“Mormons correctly recognize that salvation is through a hierarchical church. This is plainly scriptural. The problem is that they are in the wrong church. Salvation is through the Catholic Church.”

An amazingly unBiblical statement.

Salvation comes through Christ alone. No “hierarchical church” needed for salvation.
Salvation is not through the Roman church. It is through Christ alone.

“CHRIST, Who established a church while He was here on Earth,”

Wrong twice. Wow.

Christ FORETOLD he would establish His GATHERING. Not a church. Now while He was on earth.

“2 Peter 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.”

PLEASE read the context. It does not say believers should not interpret Scripture. It says - in context- that all prophecy came from God and not from some private interpretation.

No, it is by and through Jesus we are saved. HOWEVER, He didn’t leave us orphans, ascending to heaven and throwing down an intact New Testament shouting “Good luck, y’all.”

No, He sent us the Holy Spirit to live within us. He did NOT send the Catholic church to strong arm people into submission to it under threat of eternal damnation which it claims it can impose on those who won't comply.

“Luther was wrong is changing his views; had he worked inside of the Church to correct what he saw as errors, who knows what would have happened?”

I suspect the answer is nothing would have happened. It’s been quite a few years. Many errors he pointed out remain.

“You are aware, aren’t you, that the Bible came from the Catholic Church “

The Bible came from God, as His Holy Spirit inspired specific men to write it. 2/3s existed before any church.
