...For eight years, I had been a professor at Brigham Young University...
I looked down on Christians...They had part of the gospel, but I had the fullness of it. I kept the laws and ordinances of Mormonism.
Three weeks before the end of his two-year mission, Micah called to tell us he was being sent home earlya horrific disgrace in Mormon culture. He had been reading the New Testament. There he encountered a different Jesus than the one I was taught about in Mormonisma God of grace, not of works, so that no one can boast...
To a roomful of missionaries at his parting testimony, Micah had professed faith in Jesus alone and not the Mormon Church. He told them he had found a deep and genuine faithone that didn't include Mormonism. It did not go over well. Church leaders told us that Micah had the spirit of the Devil in him, sent him home, and subsequently, back in Utah, invited us to bring him before the high council...
Micah pleaded, "Mom and Dad, please read the New Testament." We commenced. As I read, I became increasingly consumed by reading about the God of grace. I barely ate or slept. It's all I wanted to do.
...In John's gospel, I read, "These are the very scriptures that testify of me yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Salvation did not require the Mormon Church, only Jesus...
...on a chilly October evening in 2006, Michael and I settled in with Katie in our basement to watch the movie Luther. My heart pounded as I learned of the reformer's struggle against the Catholic Church. I seemed to be facing a similar struggle: Did I believe the Mormon system of obedience to laws and ordinances would secure my forgiveness?

Here’s another that a Flying Inman said more than 3 years ago...
Now, if Jesus Christ were among us today and had $4+ billion, would he spend it to become even richer, or reduce suffering? After all, nearly 17,000 children starve to death each day and about 2 billion people live on less than $2/day.
Christians would say, Golly! Jesus would spend the cash on reducing suffering!
Latter-day Saints (Mormons) would say, Well, spending huge amounts of money on commercial real estate projects that benefit the church IS the plan of the Lord!
Since LDS claim that they are Christians, why do they need D&C 22 ???
1 Behold, I say unto you that all old covenants have I caused to be done away in this thing; and this is a new and an everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning.
>2 Wherefore, although a man should be baptized an hundred times it availeth him nothing, for you cannot enter in at the strait gate by the law of Moses, neither by your dead works.
3 For it is because of your dead works that I have caused this last covenant and this church to be built up unto me, even as in days of old.
4 Wherefore, enter ye in at the gate, as I have commanded, and seek not to counsel your God. Amen.

“If Joseph Smith were alive today, what would he do for a living?
Would he still be a religious huckster?
Would he run internet scams?
Would he send e-mails as a mock Nigerian prince?
Or would he be a more eleveated but still-dishonest Wall Street type?”
I thought you checked out months ago from FR...vowing to never come back!
I guess your word means zip. Kinda like the folks you follow...
You know, Smith and Young.
roflol
If JS were alive today, he would have run for president from MA.
It is YOU that do not UNDERSTAND that your Prophet has said you are damned.
Doesn't that scare you just a LITTLE bit??
The same place making covenants in the temple is found.
I guess that 'Multiply' thingy didn't work like GOD said.
Why did GOD lie???
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
Again to whom it may concern
Journal of Discourse although has many good information and knowledge plus opinions None of this is Doctrine or Scripture.
So Brigham Young or any other in the JOD can have their opinion does not make it scripture.
Journal of Discourses
The Journal of Discourses is not an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a compilation of sermons and other materials from the early years of the Church, which were transcribed and then published. It included some doctrinal instruction but also practical teaching, some of which is speculative in nature and some of which is only of historical interest

Oh?
Neither are ANY of your churche's Temple Rituals; but you guys DO them.
Sounds highly inconsistent to me.
Official sites are sites supported by LDS officials unless said official sites are considered unofficial by said officials. At that point such sites are unofficial unless officially referenced for official purposes by officials who can do so officially. This should not be misconstrued as an indication that official sites can be unofficially recognized as official nor should it be implied that unofficial sites cannot contain official information, but are not officially allowed to be offical despite their official contents due the their unofficialness.Official sites will be official and recognized as official by officials of the LDS unless there is an official reason to mark them as unofficial either temporally or permanently, which would make the official content officially unofficial. This is also not to imply that recognized sites, often used on FR by haters and bigots cannot contain official information, it just means that content, despite its official status, is no longer official and should be consider unofficial despite the same information being official on an official site elsewhere.Even then the officialness my be amended due to the use of the unofficial information which may determine the officialness of anything be it official or unofficial depending on how and where it is used officially or unofficially.
The Book of ABRAHAM IS an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It has been PROVEN to be as phoney as a three dollar bill!
Speaking of which...
It has been PROVEN to be as phoney as a three dollar bill!

In your anti Mormon dreams:)
Again in your anti Mormon dreams...
it just goes to show some are not as good investigator reporters...
actually I think most of the children that Joey had with Emma died very young...
OTOH my Christian ancestors who were married adults 1825-44 had large families 10+ and lost only one or two children..
“In your anti Mormon dreams:)”
Actually, the Book of Abraham has indeed been proven to be phony. It is a standard Egyptian funeral text that has nothing whatever to do with Abraham. Egyptologists, in real life, and not in dreams, have confirmed this beyond any question.
As for the JOD, the LDS, historically, has only started to back away from it recently, due to all its extreme, and racist, and stupid doctrines. They claim that it is “inaccurate,” and that it does not accurately reflect historical LDS teaching, but this has not always been the case. For example:
“This book was made possible because Brigham Young secured stenographic reports of his addresses. As he traveled among the people, reporters accompanied him. All that he said was recorded. Practically all of these discourses (from December 16, 1851 to August 19, 1877) were published in the Journal of Discourses, which was widely distributed. The public utterances of few great historical figures have been so faithfully and fully preserved. Clearly, this mass of material, covering nearly thirty years of incessant public speaking could not be presented with any hope of serving the general reader, save in the form of selections of essential doctrines” (Apostle John Widtsoe, Discourses of Brigham Young, p. vi).
The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every number (issue) as it comes forth. (President George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 8.)
“I know just as well what to teach this people and just what to say to them and what to do in order to bring them into the celestial kingdom...I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call Scripture. Let me have the privilege of correcting a sermon, and it is as good Scripture as they deserve. The people have the oracles of God continually.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 13, p. 95).
“I say now, when they [his discourses] are copied and approved by me they are as good Scripture as is couched in this Bible . . . “ (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 13, p. 264; see also p. 95).
“We regret that the circulation of the JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES is so limited. Its importance would warrant a thousand-fold greater extension of this work. We anticipate a time, not distant in the future, when a copy of the present volume will be more precious than gold. It is even now almost impossible to obtain a complete series. Copies should therefore be carefully preserved by all subscribers.”(President Joseph F. Smith, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 18)
Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives their childrens children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life. (Apostle Orson Pratt, Preface. Volume 3.)
It is impossible to give monetary value to the past volumes of this publication, Those who read the utterances of the servants of God, contained in this book, under the same influence by which the speakers were inspired, cannot fail to receive profit from the perusal. (President Joseph F. Smith, Preface, Volume 18.)
We take great pleasure in presenting to the Saints and the world the the Journal of Discourses, which they will find contains rich treasures of information concerning the glorious principles of Eternal Life, as revealed through Gods anointed servants in these last days. All who read the discourses contained in this Volume are earnestly recommended to adapt them to their lives by practice, and we can confidently assure them that, in doing so, they are laying up a store of knowledge that will save and exalt them in the Celestial kingdom. (Apostle Albert Carrington, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 15.)
