How I Escaped the Mormon Temple [Ex-BYU prof tells how her family was rescued from legalistic cult]
Christianity Today ^ | Nov. 22, 2013 | Lynn Wilder

Posted on 12/27/2013 8:33:08 PM PST by Colofornian

...For eight years, I had been a professor at Brigham Young University...

I looked down on Christians...They had part of the gospel, but I had the fullness of it. I kept the laws and ordinances of Mormonism.

Three weeks before the end of his two-year mission, Micah called to tell us he was being sent home early—a horrific disgrace in Mormon culture. He had been reading the New Testament. There he encountered a different Jesus than the one I was taught about in Mormonism—a God of grace, not of works, so that no one can boast...

To a roomful of missionaries at his parting testimony, Micah had professed faith in Jesus alone and not the Mormon Church. He told them he had found a deep and genuine faith—one that didn't include Mormonism. It did not go over well. Church leaders told us that Micah had the spirit of the Devil in him, sent him home, and subsequently, back in Utah, invited us to bring him before the high council...

Micah pleaded, "Mom and Dad, please read the New Testament." We commenced. As I read, I became increasingly consumed by reading about the God of grace. I barely ate or slept. It's all I wanted to do.

...In John's gospel, I read, "These are the very scriptures that testify of me yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Salvation did not require the Mormon Church, only Jesus...

...on a chilly October evening in 2006, Michael and I settled in with Katie in our basement to watch the movie Luther. My heart pounded as I learned of the reformer's struggle against the Catholic Church. I seemed to be facing a similar struggle: Did I believe the Mormon system of obedience to laws and ordinances would secure my forgiveness?

DAMNATION!!!

to those abandoning polygamy.

On my 18 year quest for answers and truth the Bible has always been my benchmark!

Oh?

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

In all honesty should not the GOAL BE SEEKING TRUTH NO MATTER WHERE IT LEADS OR FALLS?

I hope you TRULY mean this!

Tell me then why did the curtain tear from the TOP to the BOTTOM?
So that no man could say, a man did that. I was from God, revealing the temple - IE no more secrets.

***

This verse still stands no matter what you feel your version is on the torn curtain svcw.

Matthew 7:6

6 ¶Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

In other words in this situation do not give unto those who have ill will towards you, who lack reverence, so they can trample on Holy things even those in their own ignorance.

Jesus also taught to Love those who you think are you enemy or see or understand things differently from you

Even those of us who feel we have the fullness of the Gospel, meaning for Salvation, it does not mean we have nor know every thing, the LDS know there is more of the Book of Mormon to come forth, and we surely are witnessing today floods of stuff is surfacing or coming forth out of the ground, pertaining to lost Biblical things in relationship to the Bible.

Jesus has mercy for those, who for some reason could not receive, did Jesus not say, Forgive them Father for they know not what they do?

That was not only for Crucifying their Lord but also contenting His word.

Elsie I have witness your indifference to trying to not understand what you are posting and assigning your world view, members of the Church understood what Pres. Benson saying was to remind and clarify the role of a Prophet as well as give council for the day in which we live to walk through the valley of tears.

The power of the Priesthood even on to women if their is no patriarch in the home, than the sister receives this, even single or widow sisters.

It is refer to as drawing down the powers of Heaven

Sadly some will trample on this and try to use it for fodder.

Personal Revelation
http://www.lds.org/ensign/1999/09/personal-revelation

The Prophet speaks on all thing pertaining to the Lord’s Church he is the Lord’s mouth piece.

Each individual is responsible for their own choices or decisions. The Father aka Patriarch is responsible for the family unit.

There is order in the Lord’s kingdom

The Prophet speaks on all thing pertaining to the Lord’s Church he is the Lord’s mouth piece.

Then WHY does Mormonism have 12 yesmen that affirm UNANIMOUSLY what he says?

The prophets of OLD never need this kind of backup!

The Prophet speaks on all thing pertaining to the Lord’s Church until he dies; and then the 'lord' gives a DIFFERENT message to the NEXT guy in line!

Can you NOT see this plain fact?

John 8 42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: ... 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.

Resty, ALL: A very strange text for most Mormons to cite...but thank you, Restornu for citing.

You see...Mormon theology has it that 100% of people on this earth are God's children...
...based upon the unique Mormonistic theology of a so-called "pre-existent" Kolobian side of the universe where a physical lower-level god has sex with a "queen" "goddess" (and yes, one of the older Mormon hymns even uses the word "queen" in their worship of her) ...
...& produces so-called "spirit children"...
...who then are eventually sent to Planet Earth as Kolobian-realm "aliens" to incarnate our bodies...

That's Mormon doctrine, plain & simple.

SO...on the one hand, Lds teaches that 100% of the Pharisees -- along with everybody else -- were "born" as pre-existent spirits up yonder in Kolobville...
...YET...on the other hand...Resty cites John 8...conceding that these Pharisees were deemed as children of Satan -- NOT of their fleshly lower-level god 'round Kolob.

Which is it, Resty?

Two things:

What you replied has zero do do with what I asked.

Why was the curtain torn from top to bottom?

Why did you mention Crucifixion?

It is the Garden that mormonism teaches, the Cross is but a footnote in mormonism.

Again so many inaccuracy and liberty taken and not fully understanding things in their context. Never really knowing the heart of the LDS just assumptions.

Have you ever thought svcw if you really what to know to ask the Lord humble in prayer what it means...

We/I must/will take that as you do not have an answer to the simple question.
Why was the curtain torn from top to bottom, revealing the inside of the temple?

As a side note my experiences with mormonism, started in 1962, there is little to nothing I do not know about mormonism.

yes Resty you have told me so often that Mormons believe that salvation for the Christians is due to what the LORD Jesus Christ did in the Garden of Gethsemane and not his suffering and dying on the Cross..

Tennessee Nana, Ponder what the Savior means to all humanity—and to you personally. And then share the good news.

John 20: 11-17

11 ¶But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master .

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father : but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father , and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
