What would one have to do to sin against the Holy Spirit?
I don't know where the universe "came" from. Physics is poorly understood prior to the Planck epoch; perhaps in the future we'll achieve a greater understanding. Perhaps not.
And humans are just an accident of chemistry & biology?
As far as I can tell...yes.
And with untold trillions x 1099999 ... of planets, where are all the other (accidental) life forms?
We don't have the technology to detect life on extrasolar planets, although the next generation of space telescopes may indirectly show evidence of life by detecting significant amounts of free oxygen in the atmospheres of such planets.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Eat hardy and keep your powder dry.
Shrug. Ok. Here's a rather comprehensive look at the Wager, with an extensive bibliography:

Where in scripture did you find that? I have been studying scripture for near 40 years and have not found anything remotely saying there is a purgatory.
Many dear souls have tormented themselves, or have been tormented by the devil, with the awful thought that they are guilty of that particular sin; whereas deep in their hearts they fully recognize the Deity of the Lord Jesus and have no thought of attributing to the devil the power wrought in Him.
So that I understand you more clearly, do you believe in the concept or existence of the human soul?
It's easy to verify by experience the physical, emotional and mental levels of your human reality, but are there other levels that you're not fully aware of or remember, such as spiritual levels of your existence or the intuitive bridge to them?
What of the anecdotal evidence from the mountains of personal testimony of those who have experienced these levels themselves?
Here in the matrix, life is but a dream, but what is the dreamer and what created and programmed the matrix?
Yep, thats what a man made rules based salvation leads to.
Please include the full quote. I said: "Physics is poorly understood prior to the Planck epoch". Do you disagree? If you do understand the physics of the Big Bang prior to Planck epoch, I suggest you contact the Nobel Committee...your prize is waiting.
And we're the smartest people in the universe?
There is no evidence that any other "people" exist anywhere outside of Earth. This doesn't mean they aren't there, of course. Heck, I think it's likely...the universe is big.
No others can detect/communicate with us?
How exactly do you suggest they detect/communicate with us? Lightspeed delays mean that even if there's a highly technological civilization in the nearest major galaxy (Andromeda), it will take 2 million years for them to detect us, and 2 million more years for their message of, "Hi there...how ya doin'?" to get to us.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner ...
And a happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
No, I have no such belief.
t's easy to verify by experience the physical, emotional and mental levels of your human reality, but are there other levels that you're not fully aware of or remember, such as spiritual levels of your existence or the intuitive bridge to them?
What spiritual levels? What bridge? I see no evidence of either.
What of the anecdotal evidence from the mountains of personal testimony of those who have experienced these levels themselves?
There's mountains of anecdotal evidence for Bigfoot, alien abductions, ESP, and ghosts as well...but when these claims are subjected to scientific scrutiny, they evaporate like a puddle of water on a hot sunny day.
Here in the matrix, life is but a dream, but what is the dreamer and what created and programmed the matrix?
Lightweight, but amusing movie (the sequels weren't as good). As a model for investigating the universe...not so much.
Amen brother. You said it.
Why assume it doesn’t?
To be precise, I'm not assuming that the supernatural doesn't exist. I simply have no belief that it does. This illustrates the difference between weak and strong atheism.
Weak atheism (my position): a person does not believe in the existence of any deities, but does not explicitly assert there to be none.
Strong atheism: a person asserts that no deities exist.
The Catholic Church teaches "Outside the Church there is no salvation." However, that must be understood as the Church understands it. The route to salvation is repentance and reform. That route is open to everyone. The Sacraments of the Church are intended to make that route easier for Catholics, but that route is not impossible even in the absence of the Sacraments. The Church has never taught that non-Catholics are automatically damned. God is not a monster, and wants everyone to be saved. If you are damned, it will be by your own actions, not for any other reason.
Good luck getting out of that trap! Many like it there, for as long as the illusion lasts.
Perhaps, when thirsty, you will again seek to drink or perhaps not. Much awaits you...either way.
Just take care to choose the right cup to drink from next time.
You'll know it by the knock at the door...
The Holy Spirit is the One who witnesses and gives confirmation to every person that Jesus is the Messiah and the only One from whom we receive salvation.
All sins capable of being committed are forgiven EXCEPT ONE (the unforgivable sin) — which is REJECTING THE WITNESS of the Holy Spirit in affirming that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and Savior for all who accept Him as such.
Hence REJECTING the Holy Spirit and His witness of Jesus the Messiah (and His is the ONLY WITNESS that is authoritative and inerrant, not any person’s witness) - is rejecting the salvation that comes from the Messiah of Israel - and IS PERMANENT once one dies. It’s UNFORGIVABLE.
Therefore do NOT DENY the witness of the Holy Spirit and hence, engage in the UNFORGIVABLE SIN!
That was a very meaningful post for me. Thanks for taking the time to write that one. I am sure I will read it many times again.
Thanks.
