I got an interesting port on my Facebook page. Yes, I still have one that I use to keep up with friends and family, but it is quickly becoming very adversarial. I'll let the comments below speak for themselves.
Let me know what you think.
I’ve been tempted to do the same. Matter of fact I did once, but my kids pleaded with me not to and I reactivated it. Now it’s back as an option. Still debating it.
That's pretty much what has happened. My daughter says I shouldn't post my conservative views on FB, but when I asked her not to post her leftist views she well all apeshQt and told me I had to no right to ask her to do that. Now my youngest son wants me to stop posting news articles that paint the current occupier in chief in a bad light because he's afraid it will alienate me from his wife's side of the family.
So far that's two votes in favor of ditching FB. Let's see what else folks have to say.....
How old are they and did they go to public school?
And, for the record, I’ve told my parents that IF they have anything they leave to me to leave it to a missionary organization instead. No one should be in the least ‘happy’ or ‘rewarded’ when a parent passes on.
Sounds like a certain world leader who is soon to come on the scene, just as it did with Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Chaves, and others.
So, FB or no FB. What do you think? So far the tally is 2 to dump, 0 to keep, 1 undecided. Let me know what you think.
I always am, and that's part of what drives them crazy. Do I stay on FB or dump it?
Ain't it the truth!
All my kids went to public school, but my youngest son lived with me alone while he did so. He was influenced by my conservative views and has told me on occasion that my values closely mirror his own, however, that being said he’s been influenced by liberals now for the past few years and is “ashamed” of me when I bring out the errors in “The One,” so much so that I think perhaps he’s getting harassed by his wife’s side of the family for my views.
I kind of figured they were that way but I didn’t think they would stoop so low as to badger my son because of me. I guess I shouldn’t expect any less of liberals huh?
Ever notice foreigners and younger adults write about the same broken English? We can usually excuse the foreigners because they speak their native tongue very well, but our kids are unable to write like they passed the first grade.
Liberal == cult.
Do NOT point out the emperor is naked.
Marrying someone liberal is a biiiiiig mistake. I’ve seen it in some of my friends. There is no go along to get along with these people. Any dissent is squashed rapidly. Based on my experience I’d bet your son voted for the won. Or just told his wife/her family he did for the sake of peace and quiet.
He will either convert to liberalism entirely or she will convert to conservative. Else they’ll eventually divorce. That’s been my experience. Based on his being ashamed of your views my guess is he’s either converted or currently in the process of converting.
I have a simple rule for Facebook.
On my page I am king.
Politics is welcome, including dissenting opinion, including liberals, because the battle of logic with different opinions can be fun and educational,,,
BUT ,,,
If anyone, and I mean anyone including family, is disrespectful, calls names, or just pisses me off they are gone, and I mean defriended, and I don’t let anyone back once gone, but I suppose if they honestly apologized and proved to change their ways I might reconsider.
Logical non emotional factual argument can be a good thing even if you disagree, but most of the time that criteria favors the conservative.
But, I do think it's time to put the kibosh on Facebook. Way I see it, if my youngest two are that ashamed of me and my views then it's time to make a statement; you accept me, and my viewpoints, or you get none of me on Facebook.
And besides, I got better things to do with my time. Finishing creating that website I'm working on is a good place to start.
Thanks gang.

I don’t think 0bamao is the anti-Christ. He’s just another trial balloon, like the other tyrants you named.
My advice would be to keep it off facebook. For a number of reasons.
The best way to deal with this is, when you find an opportunity, say with all seriousness that history shows the bigger a government gets, the more abusive it becomes to the citizenry, doesn’t matter whether the government is “right” or “left”, and end the discussion right there.
I like to quote George Washington:
“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearsome master.”
Personally, I pick my fights carefully.
Leave it off FB. Send it in private message, a letter or a phone call. Nothing worse than airing family laundry on FB. I know because my SIL likes to stir the pot and call out other family members. It’s embarrassing and cringe worthy.
When sports and even the weather have been politicized it’s hard to avoid broaching some political topic somehow, unless you just stop conversing altogether. That has taken the pleasure out of casual conversation with many people, a change for the worse over the past several decades.
I ditched Facebook months ago and haven’t missed it at all. All our relatives and friends know our phones numbers and email addresses. I think FB is a HUGE waste of time and an even BIGGER security risk these days.
My presctription for all of this (although I am not a doctor of anything} is TOLERANCE and the CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY.
Who needs these kinds of hassles?
No, no and no.
Facebook is one of the worst things created. We had two nasty run in with relatives over very simple little matters. One is just starting to talk to us again after several years. The other is beyond repair. Though my wife doesn’t talk to them, she is afraid to “Unfriend” them as it might further damage the relationship.
The way I feel, is if someone can’t even send me a “personal email” or pick up the phone for a chat now and then, how much are they really interested in “staying close” and personal? Are they so busy that you find yourself on line number 35 on their contact list?
Tell your son that you’ve created a new will and are leaving your money to the church. See how fast you’ll get that phone call.
I have a pretty empty fb and I use it to tutt tutt and admire babies. Keep tabs on my children. I have email groups to diseminate information.
