Are you (Catholics) Saved?

Are you saved?

Have you ever been asked this question? Has anyone ever told you that Catholics think they can work their way into Heaven?

The Catholic Church does not now, nor has it ever, taught a doctrine of salvation by works - that we can “work” our way into Heaven. And, the Bible does not teach that we are saved by “faith alone.” The only place in all of Scripture where the phrase “Faith Alone” appears, is in James 2:24, where it says that we are not justified (or saved) by faith alone. However, if works have nothing to do with our salvation, then how come every passage in the New Testament that talks about judgment says we will be judged by our works, not by whether or not we have faith alone? (See Rom 2, Matthew 15 and 16, 1 Ptr 1, Rev 20 and 22, 2 Cor 5, and many, many more verses).

If we are saved by faith alone, why does 1 Cor 13:13 say that love is greater than faith? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

As Catholics we believe that we are saved by God’s grace alone. We can do nothing, apart from God’s grace, to receive the free gift of salvation. We also believe, however, that we have to respond to God’s grace. Protestants believe that, too. However, many Protestants believe that the only response necessary is an act of faith; whereas, Catholics believe a response of "faith and works" is necessary, or, as the Bible puts it in Galatians 5:6, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumsion is of any avail, but faith working through love." (Just as the Church teaches.)

St. Paul said he needed to work out his salvation with "fear and trembling." If anyone professed their faith in Jesus it was Paul. If he felt so assured of his salvation because of his faith alone in Jesus, why then would he be trembling, and have to work out his salvation?

So, the next time someone asks you if you are saved, the Catholic should reply:

As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13)." ♥

Catholics can be saved if they believe the Word of God as taught by the Church and if they obey the commandments.
Other Christians can be saved if they submit their lives to Christ and join the community where they think he wills to be found.
Jews can be saved if they look forward in hope to the Messiah and try to ascertain whether God’s promise has been fulfilled.
Adherents of other religions can be saved if, with the help of grace, they sincerely seek God and strive to do his will.
Even atheists can be saved if they worship God under some other name and place their lives at the service of truth and justice.

I'm seeing a certain pattern emerge here....

Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

And yet NONE; hearing these words, jumped up and took a bite out of JESUS.

Finally, my hope and prayer is that Christians will agree regarding our shared faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and present a united front (as much as possible) in an increasingly hostile world.

Can we MORMONs get in on this, too?

Acts 15 ain't NEAR enough!!!

Acts 15

The Council at Jerusalem
1 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me. 14 Simon[a] has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

16 “‘After this I will return
   and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
   and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b]
18 things known from long ago.[c]

19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

The Council’s Letter to Gentile Believers
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

   Greetings.

24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

   Farewell.

30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] [d] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas
36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

You heard and interview, just admit that you are terrified to hear the truth. It's okay lots of people have so much invested in being wrong that they just can't get past it to the truth.

I watched more than just the interview...There were a number of links in the sidebar with this guy speaking to Catholics...I watched those as well...

Really, this guy can't sell your religion without perverting the scriptures and just flat out making stuff up...And you can be sure no one in his audiences is checking the scriptures while he is talking and there's nothing to check out the rest of what he makes up...You believe him because, well, he's a Catholic and so are you (all)... No thanks...Had enough of him...

Izzy, Izzy, you forget I am a revert to the Catholic Church. I left and came back and you couldn't be more wrong It was careful study of the Bible that got me back into the Catholic Church, that is right I read the Bible and it made me CATHOLIC again. How do you explain that?

How do you explain Dr. Scott Hahn a Protestant minister by reading the Bible and coming into the Catholic Church?

How about Marcus Grodi who was also a Protestant minister and came into the Catholic Church? Please explain how these men that had formal training in the Bible from Protestant Seminaries decided that the Catholic Church was the correct one. Is protestant Bible teaching so defective that it forces people to become Catholic?

This list was on another website. It’s not just one verse from the Bible taken out of context.

See how Catholics proclaim we are saved:

By believing in Christ (Jn 3:16; Acts 16:31)

By repentance (Acts 2:38; 2 Pet 3:9)

By baptism (Jn 3:5; 1 Pet 3:21; Titus 3:5)

By eating his flesh and drinking his blood (Jn 6)

By the work of the Spirit (Jn 3:5; 2 Cor 3:6)

By declaring with our mouths (Lk 12:8; Rom 10:9)

By coming to a knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4; Heb 10:26)

By works (Rom 2:6-7; James 2:24)

By grace (Acts 15:11; Eph 2:8)

By his blood (Rom 5:9; Heb 9:22)

By his righteousness (Rom 5:17; 2 Pet 1:1)

By keeping the commandments (Matt 19:17)

By our words (Matt 12:37)

This is to be the trademark of followers of Christ. He wants us to welcome, support, nurture, and love one another.

Of course Catholics are saved by their Baptism that washes away the sin......But try telling that to those who are the Bible-only Christians.

Those who ONLY listen to God alone KNOW it's is the spotless blood of Jesus that washed away our sins - once and for all.

Christians only believe God's Word and not man. Man-made christians follow man and their words with their man-made teachings AND who Jesus called hypocrites.

Simple...I don't believe you...I suspect you may have opened a bible to read some of the simple verses or the parts of verses that your current religion pick out for you and you said, 'hey, they're tellin' the truth...

How do you explain Dr. Scott Hahn a Protestant minister by reading the Bible and coming into the Catholic Church?

I really doubt Hahn became a Protestant minister by reading the bible...Or a Catholic...As a good Protestant minister, Hahn would/should tell you that God called him to be a minister in a Protestant church...At some point, Hahn has to admit that either he or God made a mistake...

Can you provide a statement by Hahn that he became a blood bought, born again child of God by trusting Jesus Christ as his Savior while he was a Protestant, before he bacame a Catholic??? Just curious...

I've read and listened to Scott Hahn...He perverts and twists scripture like most good Catholics...He leaves out words and adds words to scripture and then tries to expound on the scipture with those extra words and the other without the words he left out...

Formal training in the bible has nothing to do with being a Christian...Most of the formal training for these crossovers consists of training about the bible, not the bible itself...

They are educated firstly and mostly in human philosophy...They are taught some Greek and maybe a little Hebrew language...They are taught about all the errors in the scriptures...Most of them don't have a clue in the differences between the Gospels and the Epistles...And all of them are taught Catholic church father history as tho it supercedes the actual words of God in the scriptures...

Being a Christian has nothing to do with head knowledge or pagan philsophical wisdom...It has to do with what God tells us in His scriptures...And not just a couple of scriptures, the entire counsel...

Care to tell us how many Catholic priests ultimately rejected your religion to find Jesus of the scriptures??? There are plenty out there but they are mostly listed on internet sites that are not allowed on FR since the Catholics were successful in having them classified as 'hate' sites...

I personally do not believe a child of God, a born again Christian pastor could or would become a Catholic after accepting Jesus as his Savior...Perhaps you should focus on the number of non Catholic pastors and ministers who have NOT moved to your religion and find out why they would never consider it...

I have a hard time believing you, Dr. Hahn a a Ph.D. and has spent more time reading and studying the Bible than you have thought of doing. You make things up out of whole clothe and expect us to believe you. Sorry sport it's not going to happen.

1Jn_2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

You asked!
