The e-mail went out this morning:

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops welcomes Kim Daniels on board as spokesperson for the president of the USCCB, Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

Daniels brings to the USCCB her experience as director of Catholic Voices USA, an organization of lay Catholics that works to bring the positive message of the Church across a broad range of issues to the public square. She is also an attorney whose practice has focused on religious liberty matters. Daniels and her husband have six children and are active members of their parish in the Archdiocese of Washington. She is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Chicago Law School.

Talking Points Memo mentioned her in a piece they did three years ago:

Paid $21,000 by Palin’s PAC in the second half of 2009, Daniels is a Maryland attorney who, according to the Times, prepares a daily briefing for Palin.

Daniels has been identified as an attorney with the Thomas More Law Center....

that's a pity

as a rule I have more in common with AOG than non denominational

i did not know that

so many churches today refuse to say what they are...especially suburban churches down here...which we have so many...man up north there are few churches..maybe 10% of down here...if even that...astounding

sometimes it means something

sometimes not

mine is called Thompson Station Church...an SBC outfit...a praise contemporary place ..usually..but extremely traditional politically

maybe her non denom is less Rick Warren..I hope so

Good, maybe some of Palin’s uncompromising Pentecostal moral code will rub off on that compromised bunch of bureaucratic poseurs seeking political accomodation from the Obama administration.

Rick Warren is a Southern Baptist, Palin is a non-denominational Christian attending the conservative, Wasilla Bible church.

will always be marked as a Catholic whether she is a practicing

Not to quibble, but I don't think that's quite right (CCC 1267-74). My understanding is that ANY legitimate baptism (i.e. trinitarian formula as in Mt 28:19) configures the individual to Christ. Her baptismal seal was recognized by the Church (along with the vows of parents/godparents) as incorporating her into the Catholic Church. But the baptismal seal itself wasn't a Catholic mark per se. Rather it was administered by God during a rite performed by a Catholic priest. This is why most nonCatholic converts aren't baptized when brought into full communion with the Church at the Easter vigil. It's only required for the unbaptized or those baptized in traditions that don't use a trinitarian formula.

The Church may always consider Palin a separated member but that's because she once attained membership via her indelible baptismal mark and the vows made. It isn't because that baptismal mark contained something uniquely Catholic that's absent in valid nonCatholic baptisms. The Church would always consider me a separated member too if I, as a convert with a nonCatholic baptism, renounced the faith (God forbid!). At least this is my understanding.

The Catholic position is that just as circumcision was the sign (or seal, Rom 4:11) of membership in and means of initiation into the covenant of Abraham, so baptism is the seal (indelible mark pressed upon us) and means of initiation into the New Covenant of Jesus (Col 2:11-12).

Amen the seal of the Holy Spirit.

As a side note, what's with all the comments removed by the moderator? Looks like a war was fought on this thread!

Rick warren is a poor example Southern Baptist

He’d be shunned here

He’s Kali style

I’m embarrassed by association

My only issue with Pentecostals is I don’t do tongues and some go huckster

I like some. PCUSA too

I have been told I might like doctrinaire Anglican

Man...you are raining in my assumptions

Palin no longer pentecostal and Warren a member of my own tribe

Don’t tell be Franklin Graham is now a lutheran please..lol

Don’t know. Didn’t see anything before it was removed. IMHO the religion mods do a decent job of removing the most offensive of the personal attacks that occur on these kinds of threads. My guess is that someone wasn’t manifesting an abundance of fruits of the Spirit ;)

Catechism of the Catholic Church

1272 Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated.

That’s what I said :) Configured to Christ not configured to the Catholic Church. Peace be with you :)

Please read it again. Once baptized as a Catholic the mark is there and a person can not be baptized again.

I know :) It says baptism configures the person to CHRIST not to the Church.
