ick Warrens son has taken his own life. Matthew Warren, 27, had struggled with mental illness before his death.
Evangelist Greg Laurie posted an e-mail the Saddleback Church pastor sent to this staff: Only those closest knew that he (Matthew) struggled from birth with mental illness, dark holes of depression, and even suicidal thoughts. In spite of Americas best doctors, meds, counselors, and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided. Today, after a fun evening together with Kay and me, in a momentary wave of despair at his home, he took his life. Click here to read a prayer request Rick Warren e-mailed to his staff.
Prayers and condolences are flooding into Warrens Facebook page. And Laurie also expressed his heartfelt pain over Warrens loss.

my understanding is that he suffered from mental illness/depression for years.
Oh that hurts so. We have a grandson 14 years old that has twice attempted suicide. It pains the very core of your heart.
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy for the sin of despair committed by Thy servant Matthew and lead his soul to heaven.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
Being a Christian has nothing to do with being mentally ill. Mental illness is in fact a real illness and needs real medical treatment. I firmly believe people who say “he just needed “Jesus” or “to be born again” have no clue how bad a mental illness is or can get.
Let me put it to you this way, the mind is far gone the person can not comprehend Jesus or what it really means to be “born again”. I have seen this.
I would suggest you spend some time reading scripture.
Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Hebrew 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
ALL believers have been sanctified
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and take that as what I hope you're saying. Because you can't put a grown-ass man in a straight-jacket for the rest of his life. This is a free-choice world we live in.
Besides, how do we know someone WASN'T "on guard" when it happened? I've seen cases of suicide when someone was on constant, non-stop, 1 to 1 close supervision. If a person makes up his mind he wants to make The Final Exit, he eventually does. Period.
Unless, of course, you put him in a straight-jacket, change his diaper occasionally, and feed him by mouth 3 times a day. But then you may get charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and assault. :-)
So it would be your position that no true Christian will ever be sick?
So.... lets say you fell tomorrow and suffered a compound fracture of your arm. You wouldn’t go to a doctor? Or had a bulge in your abdomen that was obviously a hernia. You wouldn’t go to a doctor to get it fixed?
God gave us his son, Yeshua, and thereby repentance and forgiveness of sin.
Ephesians 4:11 says And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers but nowhere does he say that he gave us doctors, or drugs.
Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings.
Cordially,
Rick Warren is a Mega Pastor who believes he has the authority to start a new reformation in the church and has introduced pagan teachings, and mystic - new age ideas into the church- as well as a business model to actually chase faith Christians out of their churches. It is a business model that puts into practice things he learned from Peter Drucker. He has made a ton of money and his goal is the change the world, by uniting Christians and Muslims into a one world religion called Christlam. Because his business models make a lot of money, he has been exalted as this fantastic preacher of God’s word.. except- he doesn’t talk about God’s word and he leads people astray and actually chases people out of the churches, who have faith in Jesus. He is also instrumental in a movement called the Emergent church- which is another Anti-Jesus movement in church.
“Because you can’t put a grown-ass man in a straight-jacket for the rest of his life. This is a free-choice world we live in. “
Once upon a time in America you could. Not the straight jacket but in a nervous hospital and for life if necessary. However the democrats said this was “cruel” which translates as “we don’t want to spend money on them. Now they do this ie commit suicide which gets them off the democrats hands or they live homeless in the streets. In fact the majority of homeless in some form or another.
So yes if he had to be in a nervous hospital for the rest of his life it would have been for his own good. He would still be alive.
That is a good point. How will Obamacare affect a Christian Scientist’s views or choice on not needing a doctor? Will Obamacare force this upon someone when their religion prohibits it?
It seems there a quite a few judgemental christians on freerepublic and they judge without any real knowledge...I remember someone saying "judge not least you be judged". And you gave a perfect example of insulin for diabetics...As a nurse I have seen those that did not take it serious until they had to have a foot or leg amputated...
It makes some people feel better about themselves when they denigrate others. Sometimes i wonder if they're bullies in real-life, 'cause the behavior is very similar.
Great ideer, let me know if you find a way to do it!
There are general categories of suicide :
Medically Assisted Suicide - I’ve never seen this as being acceptable. The doctor is supposed to save life, not destroy it. But, lately as destroying the lives of the unborn is more common place, destroying the lives of the sick has become the next logical step.
Suicide to prevent prolonged torture - Let’s say that someone was being tortured in an excruciating manner for an unbearably long period of time, is suicide an option? Perhaps. But if it were in this situation, why wouldn’t it be all right in the medically-assisted context if the patient were also in excruciating pain for long periods of time? Quite honestly, I’m not sure how to answer that one.
Suicide due to depression - Of course, this is never a good reason for suicide. Seasons pass and so does depression. The one who is depressed needs to look to Jesus and get help. Depression is real and powerful and is best fought with help. Also, severe depression robs the mind of clear thinking. People in such states are despondent, not in their right mind.
Suicide due to a chemical imbalance in the brain - The human brain is incredibly complex and the medical community is full of accounts of extraordinary behaviors by people whose “circuits got crossed.” I don’t see how a situation like this would make it justifiable. I think it simply would make it more explainable.
Accidental suicide - Sometimes people accidentally kill themselves. This could mean leaning over a balcony too far and falling to one’s death, or actually, purposefully taking a stupid risk like playing with a gun. Of course, with either, stupidity does not remove us from the grace of God.
The question to ask then is this — What if a Christian commits suicide, does he lose salvation?
If the answer is yes, then this would have the following implication -— If Jesus bore that person’s sins on the cross 2000 years ago, and if suicide was not covered, then the Christian was never saved in the first place and the one sin of suicide is able to undo the entire work of the cross of Christ.
Can this be true?
Will do!
Our dear friend Luke was no doctor after he found his savior.
>> “So it would be your position that no true Christian will ever be sick?” <<
.
Had you read my posts you would not have asked this absurd question.
Most Christians are very sick, and mostly because they go to doctors, and take deadly poisonous man made drugs, and trust in men rather than Yeshua.
Chapter and verse, please? "Our dear friend Luke the doctor", and "send you greetings" seems to me to be written in the present tense.
