ick Warren’s son has taken his own life. Matthew Warren, 27, had struggled with mental illness before his death.
Evangelist Greg Laurie posted an e-mail the Saddleback Church pastor sent to this staff: “Only those closest knew that he (Matthew) struggled from birth with mental illness, dark holes of depression, and even suicidal thoughts. In spite of America’s best doctors, meds, counselors, and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided. Prayers and condolences are flooding into Warren’s Facebook page. And Laurie also expressed his heartfelt pain over Warren’s loss.

Sanctification heals, not priests or pastors. Sanctification is a personal issue. There is no one between you and God but Yeshua.
I’m 53 years old. I’ve been in church all of my life. Teach etc. I’ve been on dozens of theology blogs etc. In all my years... you are the very first person who told me “by his stripes we are healed”... means we won’t get sick. So there you go... you got the record.
My heart goes out to him and my prayers are with him and his family. Losing a child is very, very painful, and even in the best circumstances there is the blame game, denial, and guilt to deal with. I pray that the Lord would hold them close and give them His strength, joy, love, hope, and peace - and an extra-real comprehension of what it means that Jesus conquered sin, death, and the devil.
I do not agree with you that a mortal can permanently rid himself of sin. There was only one perfect person who was without sin, and we hanged him on a cross. That is my belief, a belief that will not ever change, although I understand that you may not hold that same opinion.
Most think that recviting the “sinner’s prayer” does all that needs to be done. That simply is not so.
I'm sure that our personal beliefs about the plan of salvation must be very different, so again, I won't debate that with you (or anyone else here, for that matter).
I didn’t say that you won’t get sick; I said that we are healed by his stripes when we avail ourselves of it as offered in his word.
We all sin and sin brings disease. We have to constantly confess and repent, day by day, and moment by moment.
People who kill themselves are either in pain or terribly self-focused. They don’t care how their act hurts others. It’s all about them.
I tried it when I was 17. It was stupid of me. It’s the ultimate act of self-worship. Yeah, I know they have no hope for the future. I was there. But I should have been looking for hope.
I knew someone who did it because he went off his meds and thought he wanted to hurt his family. Everyone thought it was noble but I thought it was more noble to stay on the meds.
I hurt for the family but I also have anger for the son.

This is a day by day thing, as we do have a sinful nature that cannot go away until we are made incorruptible at his return.

I don’t even know the guy myself only that he’s some Protestant preacher. Have no idea what he is famous for preaching. I do know that suicide touches every member of the family and can’t help but wonder if they did not see any warning signs.

Just saw this on the news a few minutes ago. Very sad development... many prayers up for strength and comfort for the Warren family. Nothing compares to the earth-shattering heartbreak of losing a child.
