Mormons Want to Excommunicate Romney Critic
The Daily Beast ^ | September 21, 2012 | Jamie Reno

Posted on 09/21/2012 1:10:53 PM PDT by Zakeet

After writing negative articles about the Republican candidate, the managing editor of MormonThink.com says he faces excommunication. Is the Church on a witch hunt?

David Twede, 47, a scientist, novelist, and fifth-generation Mormon, is managing editor of MormonThink.com, an online magazine produced largely by members of the Mormon Church that welcomes scholarly debate about the religion’s history from both critics and true believers.

A Mormon in good standing, Twede has never been disciplined by Latter Day Saints leadership. But it now appears his days as a Mormon may be numbered because of a series of articles he wrote this past week that were critical of Mitt Romney.

On Sunday, Twede says his bishop, stake president, and two church executives brought him into Florida Mormon church offices in Orlando and interrogated him for nearly an hour about his writings, telling him, "Cease and desist, Brother Twede."

Mormon leaders have scheduled an excommunication "for apostasy" on Sept. 30. A spokesman for the church told The Daily Beast that the church would not be commenting for this story.

In his role as managing editor of MormonThink, Twede wrote an article about Romney last month titled “The God of Mitt Romney: Why Do Some Claim He’s Not Christian?

Then last week he posted several stories about the political history of LDS and how the church may or may not influence Romney, as well as a few blog posts that were tongue-in-cheek takes on the church. And that was apparently all it took for church leaders to intervene.

"Humanity will be grouped according to their works in three main divisions: Celestial (like the sun), Telestial (like the moon), Terrestrial (like the earth). Within each group there will be many gradations and divisions, until from the lowest to the highest in all groups there will be a series of gradually ascending glories.

Gosh!

I have ALWAYS wondered what Heaven will be like

Thanks; MORMONism!!

Hi Elsie. Thanks for all the copy and paste but back to my original question:
Why do we care what one mormon does to another mormon?

Thid obsession with a code of silence regarding the Mormons always reminds me of an incestuous father silencing his children...it doesn't matter if it happened, it doesn't matter if what someone is saying is truth, all that matters is that nobody tells.

Why do we care what one mormon does to another mormon?

Well; when one muslim does something to another; we tend to think there is something just WRONG about their religion.

I wonder what we think about MORMONism?

We wonder about people who believe in ISLAM; right?

So I wonder what we think about someone who FALLS for MORMONism?

Lately it appears many Mormons have adopted the standard leftist “victim” tactic for anyone with a different opinion from them:

Examples:

“I disagree with Mormonism’s doctrines”
Response: “You hate Mormons!!!!”

Not too dissimilar from these examples:

“I will not vote for Obama.”
Response: “You’re racist!!!!!”

“I agree with Jesus’s teaching on marriage in Matthew 19:4-6.”
Response: “You hate gays!!!!!!”

“I do not find Mohammedanism to be a religion of peace.”
Response: “You’re Islamophobic!!!!!!”, etc.

You do understand that what was posted is directly from mormonism’s own literature?
These are the foundations of mormonism.
We care because we care about the eternal dwelling place of these deceived people.
The real question is, why don’t you care.

"We wonder about people who believe in ISLAM; right? So I wonder what we think about someone who FALLS for MORMONism?"

Exactly.

So, if a mormon is expelled from the church of mormonism, that's a good thing, right? It gives them the opportunity to change to a real, true religion and a real true church.

It would seem to me that we would be happy about this event. Is that why we care or does the question still go unanswered, "Why do we care?"

Being forced out is not the same thing as finding truth.
Being forced out and shunned by ones family and friends, and that will be part of it will make most people bitter and hard hearted.
I’ll ask again, why don’t you care.

Ah, so this is about "saving people". And all these "revelations" about Romney's mormonism are about trying to save him from some sort of eternal damnation. After all, he is one of the deceived people, isn't he?

Nice job, way to try and change the conversation. Are you a practitioner of mormonism? I was just wondering because there are class taught on how to answer questions that should have been asked rather than what was asked, as well as ignoring the question altogether.
Yes, Romney is deceived as are all mormons.
Back to the actual question, and for reasons known only to you are apparently unwilling or unable to answer.
Why do you not care?

oops, sorry, it was a 2 part question so here goes.
No, I do not practice MormonISM. If I were to try and characterize my beliefs I would say they more closely follow JudaISM. Does that conflict with your rules regarding being saved? After all, we/they aren't Christians.

Regarding "why I don't care", my best answer is your assumption is erroneous. I do care about people but I don't believe that being a Mormon subjects them to automatic damnation. So, if some Mormon cleric wants to excommunicate someone from his church, I don't care.

True; but if one STAYs a MORMON, after KNOWING what the Bible say vs what MORMONism teaches; THEN what would your thoughts be on the subject?

The bible DOES say something about AUTOMATIC damnation:

John 3:18

Did you read reply #55 in this thread?

One of MORMONism's own Living Prophet's® did DAMN them for certain unbeliefs; which are the flip side of your statement, I guess.

Did you know that MORMONism will excommuncate it's people for simply following what it's own Scripture says?

Mormon leaders have scheduled an excommunication "for apostasy" on Sept. 30.

Well; of COURSE!!

"Any Latter-day Saint who denounces or opposes, whether actively or otherwise, any plan or doctrine advocated by the 'prophets, seers, and revelators' of the Church is cultivating the spirit of apostacy..."
(Improvement Era, June 1945, p. 354)

Reinforced here......

MP3 File

This is the audio clip of Dallin H. Oaks, current Mormon Apostle leader, from the PBS documentary, "The Mormons", declaring unequivocally:

"IT'S WRONG TO CRITICIZE LEADERS OF THE (MORMON) CHURCH, EVEN IF THE CRITICISM IS TRUE."

Don't criticize?

And here:

Temple Recommend Questions:

1 Do you have faith in and a testimony of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost?

2 Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Christ and of His role as Savior and Redeemer?

3 Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these the latter days?

4 Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys? Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the Church?

5 Do you live the law of chastity?

6 Is there anything in your conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church?

7 Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

8 Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, to attend your sacrament and other meetings, and to keep your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel?

9 Are you honest in your dealings with your fellowmen?

10 Are you a full-tithe payer?

11 Do your keep the Word of Wisdom?

12 Do you have financial or other oblgations to a former spouse or children? If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?

13 If you have previously received your temple endowment:

Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple?

Do you wear the garment both night and day as instructed in the endowment and in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple?

14 Have there been any sins or misdeeds in your life that should have been resolved with priesthood authorities but have not been?

15 Do you consider yourself worthy to enter the Lord's house and participate in temple ordinances?

Oh, they can say that their leaders were NOT speaking for GOD when they said    WHATEVER    but that's NOT the same as criticizing!

( Remember fellow Christians:  the Mormon's criticize US because they've been taught that they CAN'T criticize ANY of their leaders; so they HAVE to vent somehow! )

In his role as managing editor of MormonThink, Twede wrote an article about Romney last month titled “The God of Mitt Romney: Why Do Some Claim He’s Not Christian?”

THIS is why they are so ticked off!!

As many know, Mitt Romney belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or “Mormons”), a religious minority, with an estimated 6,229,233 members of record in the US ...

Dear Elsie...no ' needed there and I can only repeat my answer that I gave previously; if some mormon cleric wishes to excommunicate one of his church members for whatever reason, to me it means nothing in the eyes of God. Therefore, I don't care.

If you calculate ten minutes per post to type, spell check and send...plus your seven “I don’t care” posts on this thread alone...it seems your “not caring” about Elsie’s articles and excerpts is working into a part-time job...?

It’s all your fault, Elsie...nobody cares and yet your charisma has made you the Pied Piper of Hamlin...!

That is why, all the girls in town
Follow you, all around
They don’t give a freak
Yet, they want to be
Close to you.

LOL ;^)
