SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Mormons are free to down a Coke or Pepsi.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has clarified its position on caffeinated soft drinks, noting the news media often incorrectly states that its members don't drink caffeine.

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
(From Genesis 2)
Note the Scripture says "a helper"; "a woman"; "his wife." All singular, nothing plural. God's perfect plan was for one man and one woman to come together, and, as usual, we managed to screw up.
Remember what Jesus said about that.
Plus, in OT times they were still busy populating an under-populated earth. So God was a little more patient with them.

Really? How about this, you appear to be devoid of reason and thought.
I thought the “no Friday fish” was tradition not Biblical commands.
No, those LDS members were not lying to you. The Church has just officially changed it's position on caffeine. For decades, the prophets and general authorities of the church publicly forbade it's members from drinking caffeine as being against the Word of Wisdom. Allowing it now, is a new evolution in the Church's official position.
Previously, the leadership of the church publicly and privately admonished the members to not drink caffeine. (Yes, members used to be denied temple recommends for drinking caffeine). However, in the last decade or two, the church has backed off of it's original public stance against caffeine and had begun sending mixed signals by refusing to announce any change in the Church's teaching on the topic, while in private correspondences telling members that it was ok to drink.
Almost all of the membership were taught that drinking caffeine was a sin up until about the mid 90's when the church started reversing course on the subject.
The reason for this reversal in the Church's teaching on this stance probably has much to do with the rapid influx of converts during the last few decades, particularly from 1980-2010. In 1980, church membership was about 4.6 million, in 1990 it was about 7.8 million members--that represents a growth rate of 70% from1980--, in 2000 membership was about 11 million, and in 2010 it was about 14 million. This growth thus represents a 300% growth rate in new members over a thirty year period. Many of these members were converts. With such a rapid influx of non-mormons into the Church's membership, such a change in Mormon culture and teachings was almost inevitable.
In addition, much of the growth during this period was from converts. Since much of the LDS church's membership is now made up of new converts, and many of those converts since about the year 2000 probably didn't even know that caffeine was taught to be against the word of wisdom, it is no surprise that the Church would change it's position on caffeine. As these members become more integrated into the church, and take up leadership positions, the old guard against caffeine is gradually replaced by the new guard who no longer condemn the use of caffeine.
Actually they would have Juan Valdez as a Sandra Fluke type provocateur.
I wonder how my Grandfather maintained his membership in the Seventy while drinking coffee, with canned milk no less, same on his oat meal, horrid stuff.
Like when they got the revelation blacks could be mormons once they could play b-ball for BYU.
Actually I have noticed this as well. However I did notice the trouble it sure caused almost all of them.
It’s the old joke about the guy who gets stranded on an island and winds up with 15 wives. Ten years later they finally find him and they all are in a jealous awe the guy has 15 wives.
The guy finally says, “Look I said I have 15 WIVES, not GIRLFRIENDS!”
Roman Catholic Spanish and Portugese explorers to the New World believed that manatees were fish and ate them freely on Fridays. They were referred to in some journals as, "the fish that tasted like beef."
I think the point he was making is that in these accounts, you don’t read about God mentioning He has a problem with them having more than one wife, but you do have prophets and such going after the very same guys for other sins, calling them to task. We’re not talking about them having to be struck down, the topic of multiple wives isn’t referenced at all, when it easily could have been, given what they were being admonished for. It even goes to the point they get on the cases of kings for having foreign wives that lead them astray to false gods, but they never tackle the fact he has multiple wives in the first place.
More importantly, Catholics are still supposed to abstain from meat on Fridays. They are allowed to give up something else on Fridays, instead of meat. Just wanted to make sure you knew the facts.
They’d never give him a temple recommend because he’d obviously fail it drinking coffee.
Sorry I meant “no meat Friday”.
It was started to bolster the Italian fishing industry, which was in trouble when they started meatless Fridays, because they allowed fish to be eaten.
Second, a change in meatless Fridays is not a doctrinal change of any command of God. The Catholic Church has never said that it is a biblical command to have meatless fridays. The Catholic has said that Jesus gave the key's of the kingdom to the apostles to bind on earth and in heaven and that the Church continues to have this authority through Apostolic Succession. Thus through these keys, the Church has the authority to require fasting and penance to make up for our sins and short comings and increase the holiness of all Catholics. The way the Church traditionally chose to offer this penance to God was by requiring Catholics to abstain from eating meat on the day of the Lord's Crucifixion.
By the way, the Catholic Church law still requires Catholics to abstain from meat on Fridays as a form of penance, however, a Catholic is now free to replace abstaining from meat with another penance, or charitable work if the Conference of Catholic bishops allows it. Nevertheless, abstaining from eating meat on Fridays is still the normal form of this penance.
Pepsi also has a line of soda you can get in 12 packs that has their original logo and is made with sugar instead of corn syrup too.
Otherwise the mexican coke you mention is too expensive normally. You can get sugar-made coke in cans around passover.
Umm, we’re under grace now. I think if He’s more patient with anyone, it’s us, not them.
