Uh, sorry, you might want to check on that. First of all, Catholics never "had to eat fish on Fridays." They were just not supposed to eat meat on Fridays, with the exception of fish. There was no obligation to eat fish.

More importantly, Catholics are still supposed to abstain from meat on Fridays. They are allowed to give up something else on Fridays, instead of meat. Just wanted to make sure you knew the facts.

Thanks for the clarification. This was back in the mid 1950’s and seems like everyone always ate fish on Friday. But I was a high school student then and the whys on anything didn’t really matter much. If you wanted to eat in the public school cafeteria that day you ate fish or went hungry. Life was what it was.
