I base my decision not to vote for Romney on my understanding of Scripture. Have you seen any believers who state a Scriptural reason for why they plan to vote for Romney?
Do you mind read for a living or is it just a hobby?
I can't speak for the others but I wouldn't vote for Romney if he renounced Mormonism today and truly embraced evangelical Christianity. Any Republican who adopts the policies of Nelson Rockefeller won't get my vote, whether he professes true Christianity or not. Of course, anyone with a reputation like Romney of being a major flip-flopper has immediate credibility issues and I'd be skeptical of any opportunistic conversion. Of course, for Mitt's sake and those who he might influence, I'd be thrilled to see such a conversion from total darkness to God's salvation.
You have two viable choices. You might wish you had more, but the plain fact is that you do not.
You are not going to have a mainstream Christian in the Oval Office come January. You are not. You may wish there was an alternative, but there is not.
Wake up and shut up about Romney’s weird religion. We’re not electing a spiritual leader.
Clearly we are under God’s judgment.
Left with the choice between a Marxist and an anti-christian pagan, I will vote for the pagan and fear for our future.
“So do you believe the pro-traditional marriage folks who supported Chick-Fil-A are haters of gay people? Because your logic is identical”
The wife and I support the stance taken by Chick-Fil-A and made purchases last Wednesday. I am looking at all the issues from A-Z.
I too believe we are under judgment. Below is a comment I made about why I can’t vote for Romney from a few days ago.
I havent always thought about this the way I think today. I voted for John McCain and I regret it. Hes not an across the board conservative and I dont believe he is a true born-again believer any more than Myth Romney is. Im done voting for pagan men I dont really support.
That said, I believe in Christian liberty and Im not going to beat up on the many Christians who see this issue differently. I recognize I often dont think as other Christians think. I live on a sparsely populated island.
If we look at the Old Testament standards for selecting overseers in Israel, Myth Romney doesnt come close to meeting them because hes a fundamentally dishonest man. Titus tells us an overseer must be above reproach. And I believe Romans 13:3-4 give Christians strong grounds to not vote for any non-Christian because Paul uses the same title for both civil authorities and Christian ministers.
3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
(Romans 13:3-4 NASB)
With that passage in mind, I do not believe the Apostle Paul would have supported ministers for office about whom he had said let them be accursed. I think he would ask us, as he did the Corinthians, why we tolerate those who spread a false gospel and another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:3-4).
From Matthew Pooles (English theologian 1624-1679) commentary on this passage:
That is the end of his office. And for this reason God hath invested in him with His authority. The Scripture applieth the same title to him that preacheth the Word, and to him that beareth the sword; both are Gods ministers, and there is one common end of their ministry, which is the good and welfare of mankind.
Bible-believing Christians would never knowingly hire a non-Christian to minister to their church, so why are we so quick to support non-Christian ministers who beareth the sword?
I believe the biblical command is to do what is right and leave the results in His sovereign hands. The only reason I can find for a conservative to vote for Romney is fear of Obama because there is little commendable about Romney. Ultimately I fear the Lord, not men. My hope is in Him, not politicians. As the Psalmist said, Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. (Psalm 146:3)
Christians must recognize Obama is where he is because our sovereign Lord put him there. Since I cant know the mind of God, I can only guess what He is up to. Obama may be a rod in God hand, much like Assyria in Isaiah 10. Isaiah tells us that God used Assyria to punish Israel, so maybe God is using Obama to punish America. Or more specifically, maybe He is using Obama to punish Christians in America for our unfaithfulness. We can take heart in the knowledge that God will eventually deal with Obama and all other malevolent tyrants. Even though Assyria was the rod in Gods hand, He pronounced judgment and woe on them for their evil against His chosen people, Israel.
When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes. (Isaiah 10:12)
Once the Lord was finished with His work against Israel, Assyria got what was coming to it, and one day, so will Barack Hussein Obama.
Throughout history, the Lord has used imperfect men to accomplish His purposes.
Please go read Judges and Kings. Look at the flaws of those he chose to lead his people. Ponder what the Maker has in mind for this nation.
Scripture is clear that He puts into power whoever he wants. We must pray that on November He gives us the leader we need, not the one we deserve.
Not a single one ... and I've seen hundreds if not thousands of these types of replies.
Colofornian has dealt with far more of this I'm for the lesser of two evils no matter what the spiritual consequences for my country and my soul garbage. Perhaps she has seen a biblical reason justifying the support of an anti-Christian cultist. If so, perhaps she would be kind enough to share it with us.
Any man He uses is by definition an imperfect sinner, so I agree with your first sentence, but can you give me Scripture supporting a Christian voting for the Mormon bishop Romney?
Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God. Thomas Jefferson
He didn’t say you had to be of the same religion or belief just be able to recognize a tyrant. If you can’t recognize a tyrant I doubt you can recognize a Christian or anything else. Just your own group...
Romney got the nomination through a valid, fair, democratic process. He’s not my first, second or third choice. As a matter of fact, he’s about my second to last choice. A long time ago I grew up. I accept that sometimes (often) I’ll be in the minority politically. I am now but I’ll be voting for Romney because it’s marginally better for my country if the leftist stooge that has the job now gets booted out of office.
“You have two viable choices. You might wish you had more, but the plain fact is that you do not.”
I read that there are over 200 people running for POTUS this go round... Your view that the two who believe in false gods are the only choice is false. Will one of the idolaters win? In all likelihood.
The problem isn’t just Zero. It is the wing of the GOPe that thinks like Willard and is ready to follow him to a gay future that is the problem.
Some of us will be voting for all the conservatives we can on our ballots.
“Ponder what the Maker has in mind for this nation.”
Judgement, if He is to be fair to nations like Sodom, that He judged severely...
What's the problem?
Good thing the "Christian" Woodrow Wilson (a socialist) beat that Unitarian cultist William Howard Taft (a conservative)!
OK ..... So instead of supporting a Mormon, Try explaining to God how you supported:
The subjection of the Holy Bible to the Non-Biblical Nicene Creeds which was in-part politically dictated by a non-baptised Roman Emperor in 325 A.D. and coerced on the Bishops by threat of banishment.
Of course, after the Nicene Creed was on its way out to the junkyard of History a Christian Apostate Emperor by the name of Justin the Apostate brought it back to create a fission in the expanding non-Nicene Christianity in hopes of restoring paganism. And of course, the Nicene Creed finally triumphed on threat of death by Emperor Theodosius II. By the way, God who historically rewarded a nation for righteousness, unexpectedly held his hand and 600 years of dominance of the Roman Empire fell immediately after Theodosius’s treachery.
Of course, I could go into the weak underpinning of the Creed, and how it contradicts the vast amount of evidence in the Bible ..... but, no.
You just tell yourself that your obeying God by not sustaining a Latter Day Saint .... while you in full conscience perpetuate a biblical and religious fraud just because it’s 1687 years old.
I’m sure God will find your answer troubling and hypochrytical.
Or you could be the Christian that you say you are and do as Christ teaches by pulling the 2x4 beam out of your own eye, before you try pull the sliver out of Mitt Romneys!
There are two choices: a Marxist Kenyan, sarcastic and mean, who will CRAM change down our throats and ignore the Constitution when/ if it gets in his way; a good, honorable man who has great business sense, a terrific business record, a good marriage, good character — but happens to not believe the exact same thing I believe.
Gee, I am so confused .... NOT.
