Catholic bishops said Friday night that they would not support the Obama administration's proposed compromise on a controversial rule that requires most employers to fully cover contraception in their workers' health plans.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which had led opposition to the regulation, issued a statement saying that they didn't believe their concerns were addressed by a new policy offered by President Barack Obama on Friday morning to allow religious employers who object to the use of birth control to turn over responsibility for covering it to insurance companies.
Under the new policy, religious employers that don't want to offer contraception could exclude it from their policies. Insurance companies instead would be required to provide access to contraception for plan participants who wanted it, without explicitly charging either the religious employer or worker.
The shift is intended to ensure that women working at religious hospitals, schools and charities who want to use contraception can obtain it in the same way as women who work for secular employers. It also means the cost of providing the coverage for those women is likely to be spread across all policyholders by insurers.
The bishops had earlier expressed cautious optimism about the announcement, saying that it was "a first step in the right direction" but that they would have to study it.
In their later statement, they said they still had "serious moral concerns," noting that the proposal didn't contain provisions for religious employers who self-insure, meaning the employer takes on the underlying risk of covering employees' health care.
The bishops also said that the current structure of the proposal meant that if an employee and insurer agreed to add contraception coverage to a health plan, it would still be financed in the same way as the rest of the coverage offered..........

Birth control pills aren’t even “insurance.”
Insurance is “pay us money for coverage in case of injury/disease.”
In other words, “In case bad things happen to you.”
This whole Marxist stunt is absurd.
Here’s a solution for this free birth control for all at no cost fiasco.
1) ladies keep your knees together
2) gentlemen keep your zippers zipped.
There. Birth control. Free. No cost to tax paypayers and no objections from religious institutions.
Now, how may I help the government solve the next problem?
I thought there was supposed to be a letter from the Bishops read during/after Mass on Sunday... Nothing was read at our Parish and there was no statement in the bulletin either.
I am convinced when Obama says this will cosst less because there will be less births, he really means less Christian births. Less Christians. Meanwhile the Muslims birth rate keeps on going. They are patient and sooner or later they will outnumber us. Time to defeat them is now. Starting with the Muslim POTUS.

I am afraid it is even more sinister than that. Obama is very much a classic utopian progressive. The progressives from the late 19th century until WWII very much believed in things that most Americans cannot even begin to imagine such as eugenics, mandatory birth control (sterilization) for the unwashed masses, geronticide (euthynasia for the elderly who put a drain on society) and other horrors.
It was commonplace for well-known progressives in the United States and Britain to praise monsters such as Mussolini and Hitler, even Stalin, right up until WWII came along. After all, they led very large and efficient govenments that put progressive policies into action and that is what progressives worship — all powerful government.
Obama is a wannabe dictator. The Constituiton interferes with his plans so he simply ignores it. He has proven this time and again. In his own words he said he wants to “fundamentally tranform America” and he means it.
This whole contraception/abortion debate is just another step in his Godless plan.
True. And the postive quotes, for instance FDR's admiration for Mussolini, aren't new findings. They can be read in texts printed closer to WWII.
