For me, the idea of my body rotting in a box 6 feet under is repulsive. I would rather be “ashified” and those ashes spread all over the Appalachian mountains in Tennessee and Kentucky. The dead know nothing I realize, but to my earthly flesh brain....It comforts me to know where my body will be until the Earth is renewed.
No commandment against it in Scripture. I personally wouldn’t do it. Jesus was buried (in a tomb), so for us that’s the example that was set that should be followed.
I had a nightmare after my mil was cremated. I dreamed that we got dressed up and went to a building (I didn’t know it was the crematorium). She climbed into a box on a conveyor belt and then traveled into the flames, still alive. I was screaming trying to get the conveyor belt to stop, and woke up. It’s obvious I don’t like cremation :(
200 trillion years ago our solar system was interstellar dust.
200 trillion years from now our solar system will be interstellar dust again.
This period in time is a very brief existence in eternity that we are formed dust.
The dead don't care.
I say, whatever works for the survivors ought to be good enough for the rest of the world.
The bible is a book of fables, written by people who had nothing to do with Christ.
Follow your heart, and do what suits you.
He wasn't cremated, but crucified, died and was buried (not that you should be crucified).
That's the way I'm going. I want to be buried.
Are you telling me one who is burned to death in a auto accident, house fire, ect, will not go to heaven? I would think one strong in their Christian faith that it wouldn’t make a difference.
My mother passed away this past November and was cremated. There was no objection from the Catholic Church at all. And we happen to live in the Arch-Diocese of Arlington, VA, probably the most conservative Arch-Diocese in the Western Hemisphere!
The bible speaks of “the Spirit/spirit” which is other than the human body..
What exactly the spirit is no one knows.. (completely)
But the human body is indeed “transportation”.. among other things.
Roy Rogers had Trigger stuffed!!.. Why not?..
One thing is for sure if it’s okay in the Bible the atheists /left-wing fanatics will find a way to disallow it.

The Biblical Commandment
Man’s soul comes from Above, “He breathed into his nostrils the soul of life,”and when its earthly mission has been accomplished it rises back to G-d, returning to its source.
The body, on the other hand, was taken from the ground — “the L-rd G-d formed man of dust from the ground”— and must therefore return to the earth. This is expressed in the words that G-d tells Adam, the first man, “For dust you are, and to dust you will return.”
This concept is reiterated in Deuteronomy, where we are commanded to bury the dead: “You shall bury him on that day.” The Jerusalem Talmud explains that this requires us to bury the body in its entirety, not after it has been diminished through cremation or in any other manner: “You must bury him in entirety, not partially. From this verse we extrapolate that the command was not fulfilled if the person was partially buried.”
Cremating a body destroys most of the body, making burial of the flesh impossible, and thus violates the biblical command.

Our Responsibilities Vis-à-Vis the Human Body
In Jewish law, the human body belongs to its Creator. It is merely on loan to the person, who is the guardian of the body, but he or she has no right to deface it in any way. The body must be “returned” in its entirety, just as it was given.
Additionally, Man was created in “G-d’s image and likeness.”Any violation of the human body is considered, therefore, to be a violation of G-d Himself.
This general principle and law governs many of our laws, like those prohibiting self-mutilation or tattoos, and requiring us to do our utmost to keep ourselves from danger by maintaining proper hygiene and the like. This principle applies after death, too; any mutilation of the dead is prohibited.
NO.
If you want to laid to rest on a burning pyre as it floats off into the sea, then feel free.
Ashes to ashes - Dust to dust...
The Bible says NOTHING about it.
Some Christian leaders suggest cremation is sub-Christian, though not non-Christian. The human body is a temple and a gift from God and as such deserves to be regarded with respect. Whether cremation, burial or burial at sea, it doesn’t matter, just have it done with respect.
Abraham was buried (Genesis 25:8-10)
Sarah was buried (Genesis 23:1-4)
Rachel was buried (Genesis 35:19-20)
Isaac was buried (Genesis 35:29)
Jacob was buried (Genesis 49:33; 50:1-13)
Joseph was buried (Genesis 50:26)
Joshua was buried (Joshua 24:29-30)
Eleazar was buried (Joshua 24:33)
Samuel was buried (1 Samuel 25:1)
David was buried (1 Kings 2:10)
John the Baptist was buried (Matthew 14:10-12)
Ananias and Sapphira were buried (Acts 5:5-10)
Stephen was buried (Acts 8:2)
I imagine it has to do with the body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, in Christianity — I am thinking of old tales, where the dead were always buried in the church graveyards, consecrated ground — awaiting the second coming, no doubt?
Watching It’s a Wonderful Life yesterday, I was startled with the guy in the office at the bridge where James Stewart was about to end it all, mentioning that ‘suicide is against the law in this town.’ Those laws were dropped mostly in the 60s, too — as we moved away from Christianity.
At some point - all the Church graveyards are going to run out of space. Cremation is practical and less expensive than embalming, casket, family cemetary plots etc.,
With so many divorces and remarriages - future generations will need a tourist guide to find their ancestors’ family gravesites.
IIRC - One of my in-laws buried 2 husbands in the family mausoleum...she had to be squeezed in between them.
If you are really filled with the Spirit, the fire will not harm you. Read about Justin Martyr and Polycarp when they tried to burn them at the stake.
This was the basis for burning witches. If their abilities came from Spirit, the fire would not harm them.
