An email sent out to the Crystal Cathedral's congregation requested meals for founder Robert Schuller's wife, Arvella, who is sick with pneumonia. Crystal Cathderal Ministries, a glass-walled Orange County church known for its "Hour of Power" broadcasts, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 18. The Schullers, church administrators, have come under fire after court documents revealed they may have taken nearly $10 million from the church's endowment funds.
The email sent by Pastor Jim Kok asked parishioners not to send cards, because church staff and the Schullers want to keep her illness "under the radar."
"However, they would appreciate meals over the next three to four weeks," the email states, reported The Orange County Register. "They are to be sent to the church in order to be transported to Arvella. The limo drivers could pick up the dinners or meet in the Tower Lobby around 4:30 p.m."
Many parishioners are outraged over the email considering the cathedral's bankruptcy and the Schuller's involvement.
"These are millionaires who have limos and chauffeurs," an outraged member, Bob Canfied, 73, told The Orange County Register. "Why in God's name would they want the congregants to deliver meals? It's ludicrous."
I’m answering the phone for Thanksgiving dinner at my Catholic Church. I would gladly have two adult meals delivered to his house.
God bless him.
**”Why in God’s name would they want the congregants to deliver meals? It’s ludicrous.”**
And Christ, according to the Bible, fed 4000 and 5000 not counting the women and the children.
Why are people upset?
Lord have mercy on them. (We can’t judge.)
Amen, Sandy
The Reformation broke the discipline of dogma allowing for a floodgate of innumerable sects Calvinists, neo-Calvinists, Baptists, Reformed Churches, Lutherans, Seventh-Day Adventists; Quakers, Pentecostalists, Methodists, and the Schullers and their clan are simply the latter day iterations of what went before them using the new media to build a following of gullible congregations.
I dunno... was he a televangelist?
I helped coordinate the meals at my church for several years, including a 6 month span where both parents were dying of cancer. It isn’t just about the FOOD, it is about visiting with them, loving them and having a relationship with them. Those who need meals also need contact with other members of His body. The body of Christ is about personal, connected relations. The body parts are connected with each other as much as they are connected to the head, which is Christ Jesus.
Not wanting people to come to them to bring them food is just yet another example of the Schuller’s shunning the body of Christ, and Christ Himself.
Sad. Just sad.
Bad analogy. Christ didn't solicit food and resources from people of modest means so he could give it to 5000 wealthy people asking that he deliver the food in limos - which is essentially what Schuller is doing here.
“What would Christ do?”
Sell the limo, and feed all the poor in the Church, and probably also the poor not in the Church. The Schullers are not poor.
Would he heal Mrs Schuller?
And now it's going to be a Catholic Church.
Ironic.
“I would include Joel Osteen in your puke list.”
No, Joel belongs to a whole new category: Puke Until You Strangle
are they upset over the begging for bread or the drivers?
were they specifying a menu or just asking for something to eat?
Dr. D. James Kennedy died a few years ago and they are still broadcasting his reruns to try and keep the cash flowing.
I second that “trolls in our midst” observation.
Or, perhaps, as times grow harder, people turn more and more back to their faith.
Upset?
Nah....
Befuddled?
Sure.
Considering he has enough to pay for a limo and driver I would think he could afford some food.
Point being if they have confessed their sin and have repented of those sins then God has forgiven them and will not remember them at all.
