Precious Promises of the Book of Mormon
Ensign ^ | October 2011 | Thomas S. Monson

Posted on 10/27/2011 7:27:20 AM PDT by Saundra Duffy

Many years ago I stood at the bedside of a young father as he hovered between life and death. His distraught wife and their two children stood nearby. He took my hand in his and, with a pleading look, said, “Bishop, I know I am about to die. Tell me what happens to my spirit when I do.”

I offered a silent prayer for heavenly guidance and noticed on his bedside table a copy of the triple combination. I reached for the book and fanned the pages. Suddenly I discovered that I had, with no effort on my part, stopped at the 40th chapter of Alma in the Book of Mormon. I read these words to him:

“Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, … are taken home to that God who gave them life.

“And … the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow” (Alma 40:11–12).

As I continued to read about the Resurrection, a glow came to the young man’s face and a smile graced his lips. As I concluded my visit, I said good-bye to this sweet family.

I next saw the wife and children at the funeral. I think back to that night when a young man pleaded for truth and, from the Book of Mormon, heard the answer to his question.

Trinitarian is NOT in the Bible the conception of the Trinity was decided by the Council of Nicene.

Notice to MORMONs and other non-Trinitarians:

It says DECIDED - not INVENTED.

Ha ha!

The MORMON "temple Rituals" are not in the BoM; or in ANY of the so called 'scriptures' that LDS hold dear!

So you'll have a hard time continuing to convince yourself that MORMONism is true; since it is OBVIOUS that these things came from the mind of man: and Natural man at that.

To: Saundra Duffy; teppe

I am so blessed to have found the Lord Church here on and will continue to strive to Do What is Right according to the will of my Heavenly Father in the name of His Son Jesus Christ.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings “Do What Is Right” during the Saturday morning session of the 178th Semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah in October 2008.

“Do What Is Right” Hymn #237
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAAsa9LolcQ

1. Do what is right; the day-dawn is breaking,
Hailing a future of freedom and light.
Angels above us are silent notes taking
Of evry action; then do what is right!

[Chorus]
Do what is right; let the consequence follow.
Battle for freedom in spirit and might;
And with stout hearts look ye forth till tomorrow.
God will protect you; then do what is right!

2. Do what is right; the shackles are falling.
Chains of the bondsmen no longer are bright;
Lightened by hope, soon theyll cease to be galling.
Truth goeth onward; then do what is right!

3. Do what is right; be faithful and fearless.
Onward, press onward, the goal is in sight.
Eyes that are wet now, ere long will be tearless.
Blessings await you in doing whats right!

Text: Anon., The Psalms of Life, Boston, 1857

Music: George Kaillmark, 17811835

Relevant Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:1718, Helaman 10:45

could do the same thing as this with the book of Matthew or the book of Hebrews...showing how they incorrectly quote the OT (Tanach) Perhaps you could; but...

Do you see US parading around and claiming we are JEWS?? Do you see us claiming that we are the TRUE Jews?

Isnt the more important point, who has the truth of G-ds word? Mormons claim they have it. Christians claims they have it. You are both wrong. The truth is with the Jewish people. It is not MY assertion, it is in G-ds word.

Jeremiah 16:19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. 21Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

The gentiles will come to Israel from the ends of the earth. And they will admit that the truth is with the Jewish people and the nation of Israel....And G-d will once and for all time, cause the gentiles to KNOW that His name is Hashem! The NAME, YHWH. Not Joseph Smith...Not Jesus...No 3-in-1 enity with a god-man hybrid savior.

could do the same thing as this with the book of Matthew or the book of Hebrews...showing how they incorrectly quote the OT (Tanach) Ah... is it REALLY a 'quote' or a 'paraphrase'?

They are quotes. And even if they were a paraphrase..They can not change the plain meaning of G-ds word..right!

Here is a small sample of tampering with the text...just like mormons do. You do.

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (The bible NEVER says that. Hebrews is "quoting" Lev 17:11, deliberately leaving out Lev 17:10 that says that blood is not to be eaten, it is not a food. Why? Because the only use for blood, is for atonement. It does NOT say, that it is the ONLY means of atonement and in fact, Lev 5 describes the use of FLOUR as an atonement for sin. The bible has many examples of prayer, repentance, fasting and charity as PREFERRED means of atonement. NOT blood..

Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me ; ( It doesn’t say that!, that is a blatant mistranslation. It says: “Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired; My ears You have [b]opened; Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required”. The author of Hebrews is playing with the scriptures fast and loose. And we are supposed to trust in it?

6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. (Again, the author tampers with the text, it says: 16 “For You (AF)do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a (AG)broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise”. And likewise: 6 (A)With what shall I come to the LORD And bow myself before the God on high? Shall I come to Him with (B)burnt offerings, With yearling calves? 7 Does the LORD take delight in (C)thousands of rams, In ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my (D)firstborn for my rebellious acts, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has (E)told you, O man, what is good; And (F)what does the LORD require of you But to (G)do justice, to (H)love [a]kindness, And to walk [b](I)humbly with your God)

The author of Hebrews only quotes part of verses...or changes it completely to make LOOK like it is about Jesus.

Hebrews 10: 16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”[b] 17 Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” (More text tampering! It says: Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a (BX)new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, [c] The new covenant is with Israel and Judah NOT the gentiles. Then the writer ships this part “They will (CE)not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all (CF)know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD,”…That has NOT happened yet…therefore no new covenant exists for Israel, the house of Judah and certainly NOT THE GENTILES.

And Matthew pulls the same stunts:

MATTHEW’S ERRORS, DISTORTIONS & MISQUOTATIONS

Over twenty times in the gospel of Matthew, goes out of his way to tell of prophecy fulfillment. By doing so, the author of Matthew had to misquote, misinterpret verses in his favor, take verses out of context, or simply make them up to reach his goal. Comparing what the author of Matthew wrote to the Old Testament―the Hebrew Bible; we find the following:

CONTRADICTS OLD TESTAMENT

Matthew 1:2―15 – His list of generations does not agree with l Chronicles Ch. 1―3 Matt. 1:16 – Trying so hard to make Jesus appear to come from David's lineage that he ignored Jewish law. The Hebrew bible states that a Hebrew's genealogy and tribal membership is transmitted exclusively through one’s PHYSICAL father, never the mother. (Numbers 1:18 Jeremiah 33:17) Matthew has Jesus descending from the cursed King Jeconiah, who G-d told his descendants would NEVER sit on the throne of David. Jesus is therefore disqualified. Matt.5:43 – had Jesus say, “thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.” Leviticus 19:18 does not mention any enemy, only “…love thy neighbour as thyself.” Matt. 15:11 – “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.” Contradicted by all the dietary laws in the Hebrew bible.

MISQUOTING, TAKING OUT OF CONTEXT AND ALTERING ISAIAH

Matt. 1:23 – Mistakenly uses the Septuagint word for virgin instead of Hebrew “HaAlma”, the young woman. Matt. 1:23 – Misquotes Isaiah 7:14, “they” will call Jesus Immanuel, whereas Isaiah wrote “his mother” would call him Immanuel – not “they.” Jesus was not named Immanuel. Matt. 3:3 – Misinterprets and alters Isaiah 40:3 – “Prepare the way of the Lord.” Not so. Matt. 4:15 – Added “Galilee of the Gentiles” to Isaiah 9:1―2. Not in the Hebrew Tanakh (OT). Matt. 8:17 – Took Isaiah 53:4 out of context – Isaiah was relating to a leper (nagua). Matt. 12:17―21 – Taking Isaiah 42:1―4 out of context – the Servant was Israel four times. And then changes verse 21 to read: "and in his name shall the gentiles trust" (Isaiah 42.1―4). Matt. 13.14―15 – Took out of context Isaiah 6:9―10 of people being “blind”

MISQUOTING AND DISTORTING JEWISH PROPHETS

Matt. 2:5―6 – Misinterprets Micah 5:2 ― the Messiah coming from Bethlehem. It was David a Bethlemite, born in Bethlehem and from his seed would come the messiah. Matt. 2:15 –Taking Hosea 11:1 out of context, Jesus being called out of Egypt. It was Israel who was called out of Egypt. Matt. 2:17―18 – Distorts meaning of Jeremiah 31:1―17 of Rachel weeping. Rachel doesn’t weep for martyred children. Matt. 11.10 – By changing the pronoun in Malachi 3.1 “before ME” or “before YOU”? Matt. 13:35 – The Christ will speak in parables – distorting Psalm 78:2 Matt. 21:1―7 – Jesus riding on two donkeys at the same time – good trick ― (Zechariah 9:9) Matt. 22:43―44 – Capitalizes the second lord – altering the meaning of Psalm 110:1 There are no capital letters in Hebrew. Matt. 23:35 Mistakenly gave Zechariah’s father the wrong son. Zechariah was the son of Jehoiada, not Barachiah. II Chronicles 24:20――21 Matt. 27:9 – Quoted the wrong prophet ― was not Jeremiah but Zechariah Matt. 27:9 – Book of Zechariah was never about any “potter’s field”

Mathew wrote; “…from the blood of righteous Abel unto Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar” (23:35). According to Tanakh, it was Zechariah (Zacharias) son of Jehoiada who was killed by the Temple (ll Chronicles 24:20―21). There is no evidence in the Hebrew bible or in any other writings that Zechariah the Prophet was murdered, let alone killed in the Temple. The First Temple had already been destroyed in Zechariah's time. CONTRADICTS OTHER GOSPELS

Matt 2.12 – Contradicts Luke about going to Egypt after Jesus’ birth. Matt 9:9 – Becoming one of the 12 conflicts with Luke and John. Matt 27:57-66 ― Disagrees with Mark, Luke and John at the “burial scene”

MAKING UP STORIES

Matt Chapter 2 not verified by any other writer and not logical Matt 2:16 – Got mixed up about Pharaoh & Herod’s Killing of the innocent babies (read the infanticide in Exodus 1:15―22 regarding Pharaoh being told of the Messiah) Matt 2:23 – Jesus dwelt in a city called Nazareth that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, he shall be called a Nazarene”. No prophet ever said this, the verse doesn’t exist. Matt 23:37 ― [thou] that killest the prophets. Which prophets did the Jewish people kill? Matt 27:51 ― And behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain – event never happened, there is zero record of this. Matt 27:52 ― The graves were opened and the dead went to Jerusalem – never happened, zero record of this. Matthew 9:9 ―The author wrote in the third person. This was unusual as no other author wrote that way. Makes one wonder if Matthew himself wrote this book.

Sure looks exactly like what the mormons do. Change the text...misquote...make stuff up...leave out half the verse....take out of context...all to shoe horn the man from Narareth into the Holy Tanach of G-d.

John:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us

and

Luke

and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Thatsd NOT what the Mormons believe...

They say that one of their Mormon gods came to Earth and had sex with mary...

During the 1800s the flesh minded Mormons could not understand that God could do miracles...

they had to see things with their own eyes...

they didnt understand what faith really is...

they were not men of faith ...

so they cooked up the story that the LORD Jesus Christ had to have been the product of a sex act just like they themselves had been...

Mormons will tell you (thinking they are cute) that yes Mary didnt “know” have sex with a man...

But she did have sex with a god...

Thus somehow keeping her virginity anyway...

Sick thinking sick religion

Mormonism is NOT Christian...

Resty that song doesnt tell you what to do...

Is it just left up to the individual Mormon to interpret the words and do as he or she feels might be the “right” thing ???

and also its not a praise song about the LORD Jesus Christ...

BTW To do “right” in 1857 was for a Mormon male to have multiple concubines etc...

are you advocating that your Mormon friendfs should continue that practice ???

Polygamy is in the current Mormon doctrines after all...

also to do “right” in 1857 was to murder Christians...

at the orders of Brigham Young...

The Mountain Meadows Massacre comes to mind...

September 11, 1857

****

I never denied that Jesus is God nor that he is the only begotten Son of God the Heavenly Father.

did not Jesus say He came to do the will of His Father which is in Heaven?

Matthew 12

46 ¶While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

John 14

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
