There are a lot of United Methodist, Episcopal, United Churches of Christ, a BUNCH of non-denominational churches. What is surprising is that there are a few Catholic churches.

A reflection on that Gospel.

Archdiocese of Washington

In the Gospel for Wednesday’s Mass, Jesus says: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. (Matt 7:15). Of course we first think of individuals when we see a verse like this. But the Lord’s teaching can, and should be applied also to philosophies.

One of the terribly destructive philosophies is a false notion of freedom. The sinful world, going all the way back to Satan’s deceit in the garden, thinks of freedom as being able to do whatever I please. In effect those who hold this, flaunt their false notion of freedom saying in effect, “I will do what I want to do, and I will decide if it is right or wrong. No one will tell me what to do.” It is freedom in the abstract, freedom for its own sake, rather than for the sake of being able to do what is right.

That this notion of freedom is false is evident from its fruits. For although many, in modern times, claim to march under the banner of freedom from being told what to do, it becomes clear that many of them end up it a terrible state of increasing slavery and bondage.

For this era when a false notion of freedom is exulted is also an era of increasing addiction to alcohol, drugs, pornography,  sex, and a general lack of self control.  And with greed and materialism, whatever we have is never enough. There is thus a bondage to things, a kind of incapacity to live without endless numbers of things and creature comforts. Therefore we also see increasing bondage to credit, both personally and nationally. We simply “cannot” stop our runaway spending. There is also an increasing lack of ability to make and keep commitments and many feel “compelled” to divorce, leave the priesthood and religious life.

None of this shouts the freedom that so many boast of. Rather there is evident, bondage, inability, compulsion, addiction, and an out of control quality to modern life.

You will thus know by its fruits that false freedom is not true freedom. It masquerades in the “sheep’s” clothing of liberty, but underneath it is the ravenous wolf of bondage. Many cry “Liberty!” when they really mean “libertine” and “licentious.” They are headed straight for bondage. St. Augustine said,

For of a perverse will, was a lust made; and a lust served, became custom; and custom not resisted, became necessity. (Confessions 8.5)

The Catechism also says,

The more one does what is good, the freer one becomes. There is no true freedom except in the service of what is good and just. The choice to disobey and do evil is an abuse of freedom and leads to “the slavery of sin.” (CCC # 1733).

And thus we arrive at the definition of true freedom which is the capacity to obey God.

And what are the fruits of true freedom? An increasing liberation from the power of sin, the increasing capacity to do what is right and just by the power of God. True freedom brings greater self control, the ability to moderate one’s desires and have them submitted to right reason. True freedom brings serenity, for one’s life is in greater balance and harmony.

By true freedom,  the innumerable sorrows of false freedom listed above are largely avoided and one’s life is simpler, more focused, and one enjoys the results of a disciplined and reasonable life. Sorrows and suffering are not eliminated but are diminished for many of their sources in excess, addiction and compulsion are removed. True freedom ushers in, by God’s power, the life that Jesus Christ died and rose to give us.

So what do you want, the fake freedom of the world, or the glorious freedom of the children of God? (Rom 8:21)

But I am confident that it will not happen at my Catholic Church.

And I'm overly, absolutely confident that it will not happen in the God Fearing, Bible Reading Christian Church that I attend.

You don’t know my priest. He would die rather than do something contrary like this.

Very orthodox and reverent Novus Ordo Mass. I feel very blessed to be in the parish.

Sort of unequivocal.

Nothing "sort of" about it. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by the Son, Jesus.

These unitarian Rick Warren wanna-be's can believe whatever they want. Come judgement day they'll find out differently. Gonna suck to be them.

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

In a more modern and simpler form of English—cut off their heads and cut off their fingers.

The antiquated Shakespearean type of language kind of romanticizes and softens the brutality of the actual blood-curdling words.

Well that didn't post well, so here's the link to the churches involved

Note: there is NOT a Catholic church in Illinois involved in this (whew!) There are however a bunch of Methodist, Unitarian, Episcopal and United Church of Christ "churches" on this list.

first, “Chrislam” is insanity.
at best, it’s the product of fools believing the taquiyya.
at worst, it is ministers and priests who have sold their souls.

...as i’ve said elsewhere, i’ve read the Quran, Sira, ahadith. Islam is NOT a man-made religion. it IS the religion of Satan. i can show this quickly to almost any true Christian. (examples:.
Psalms shows Satan hates music, and Islam forbids music.
The angel of light in the cave, CHOKED Mohammad, and terrified him, and shook him... it was Satan, appearing as Jesus himself told us Satan still can.
and the peversion of holy matrimony, into “property” and “a field to tilth”.
and most of all, what Islam does to children, for example the most perfect Mo himself “thighing” a child from age 6 to 9, when he finally had sex with Aisha. a religion that calls him the perfect man to be emulated, is Satan’s. own!)

second, please forgive my presumption, and understand my fervent wish for Christian unity.
(especially in the face of the true evil of Islam, which IS rapidly growing, and killing true christians all over the world !!!)

...i wish i had a Priest like Salvation does. sadly, not all are good. Catholics must be honest, and admit that people like “Father” Phleger wear the collar.
...and i’d be honored to attend usconservative’s church.

but, Warren’s church used to be good... any individual church, can be changed in a decade, with one bad pastor.
the Catholic church, at least has the advantage, that a single bad priest, cannot make any fundamental changes.
in spite of some bad, the church is essentially unchanged in over 1000 years.
(and the Coptic Christians in Egypt, we should ALL respect and admire!)

...but against Islam, i’m proud to stand beside ANY true Christian, both Salvation, usconservative, and the many others here.

Jesus himself scolded disciples for trying to stop those preaching in his name. i believe we ARE brothers and sisters in Christ.

...and to paraphrase Ben Franklin, if we don’t hang together,
we most assuredly will be beheaded separately...

Why did Archbishop Fulton Sheen predict that Mary would be the key to reconciling the faiths of Rome and Mecca?

The Pope Kissing The Qu’ran
///
first, it was a Patriarch giving him the book, not an Imam.
in fairness, it might have been an honest misunderstanding.
i don’t cast the first stone.

but, Catholics do NOT believe the Pope can’t make mistakes. certainly he can! it is a myth we believe he is infallible in all things.

and please remember, that Catholics are on the front lines, being killed all over the world for their faith.

finally, here are his OWN words, from the Pope you mention.
there are many ministers who wouldn’t say even this:

“Islam is not a religion of redemption.
There is no room for the Cross and the Resurrection. Jesus is mentioned, but only as a prophet who prepares for the last prophet, Muhammad.
There is also mention of Mary, His Virgin Mother, but the tragedy of redemption is completely absent.
For this reason not only the theology but also the anthropology of Islam is very distant from Christianity.

From Crossing the Threshold of Hope, pp.92-93.”
