A Lutheran in our area, decided she wanted to leave her church several years ago. She started going down the street, visiting all the churches.
When she got to our Catholic Church she knew she was home and entered the RCIA class.
You say your aunt is more open. I think you and your aunt might try the same technique. You won’t be disappointed.
Blessings to both of you.
Ugh, I hate to to do this....but I feel I must. We have recently (these past few days) lost a family friend of over 20 years. She was 37, 4 small children.
She was Catholic. That is where the Mass was. I quote this in exact content:
“Communion Procession: Catholics sacramentally prepared to receive Holy Communion are now invited to come forward.”
I pointed it out to Aunt Jeannie. She said we could just get a blessing, instead of Christ’s body. I said it was wrong and if I’m going up there, I’m getting Christ’s body. I then pointed out to her what I have just stated above.
She said “That is wrong. We are ALL Christ’s child”. So I said “let’s go up and receive His body in His name, not just some meaningless “blessing”.
She agreed. We both went up and received Christ’s body, as a non-Catholic, as DEEMED according to their “law”.
She, nor I are rebels, but we strongly believe NO MAN can tell us we are not a child of Christ and do NOT deserve His body as Communion.
Evangelical means “preaching the gospel”. You should feel at home as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, but wherever God leads you find a church that puts the Bible first!
The Most High does not dwell in buildings made by human hands. (Acts 7:48) The true worshippers of God worship Him in Spirit and Truth. (John 4) Worship is not a matter of location, but of relation. You must be born again. (John 3).
If you know Him, you are Christ’s temple. (I Corinthians 3:16-17), and you have eternal life. (I John 5:11-13)
Presuming you mean the same as I referenced a few posts back, good to run into another “dunkin’ Campbellite” here on FR! :-)
** She said we could just get a blessing, instead of Christs body.**
Your aunt was correct. You needed to go forward for a blessing and prayer.
Check out the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
Do NOT check out the PCUSA (they are liberal)
Thanks =)!!
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod does not belong to the National Council of Churches, which is poison. We are opposed to homosexuality and abortion and NO women pastors.
I’ll pray for both of you. Please talk with a priest about this.
Yep! Attend Jordan Park in Huntsville, Al.
And I highly recommend Sovereign Grace Ministries, non-denominational churches with branches throughout the U.S. I attended the Gaithersburg, Md. church for a few years inbetween military duty. Spirit-filled instruction, Bible-based leadership. I got a lot of problems ironed out due to their leadership and teachings. One of their founders, CJ Maheney, helped me get straightened out because he preached the truth and I desperately needed to hear it.
Would you consider going to a Calvary Chapel? It would be quite a change for you, but they go verse by verse through the Bible, and I can promise you they don’t endorse homosexuality on any level.
I recommend sermonaudio.com!
Use their church finder for your area. Listen to sermons heard at those churches.
If it peaks your curiosity, drop me a line and Ill share some of my favorites.
I hesitate to label myself, as we were in the military and have attended all kinds of churches. I just know what my heart longed for, and where I found it.
Sometimes, but not as often as I probably should. I usually just babble to Him about regular stuff, when I do babble.
I always feel like I’m bothering Him when I speak to Him.
Ah Charles. I follow him on the DUFUnnies!
A pastor once told me to treat it like you’re talking with your father. If he cares about the hairs on your head I doubt anything (except sin) is a bother.
I’ve left 2 messages with the Pastor....he hasn’t called back. Also answered their “questionare” online.
I don’t think they like me.
And now for two important followup questions:
1). Do your pronounce it Jor-dan or Jer-dan?
2). You do know that my old stomping grounds of Decatur used to be the big city in North Alabama back when Huntsville was still known as Huntspatch! :-) (I guess the emphasis is on used to be, eh?)
By the way, I still miss Greenbrier BBQ between our two fair cities on Highway 20.
He is the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and he is one of the absolute best pastors I have ever heard in my life. He is the model to whom I compare other pastors
If you like what you hear, you could email them and tell them where you live and ask them if they know of any Bible-believing and preaching churches in your area that you could attend.
I think if you listen to him, you'll find his teaching unlike anything you've been treated to. He is a true gift from God.
