Maybe doomsday is near

Bible prophecy may have a bad name in the light of Harold Camping's misguided date-setting, but the biggest sign of the end may have been overlooked in all the rapture hysteria of last weekend.

Once again, we've seen the U.S. hit with a series of deadly superstorms following Barack Obama's pledge to return Israel to pre-1967 borders.

Just days after Obama insisted Israel must give up lands it won through military victory with its enemies, some 200 people were killed by a tornado in Joplin, Mo.

There's a pattern here.

We saw it in Katrina, when George Bush forced Israel's withdrawal from Gaza. In fact, as everyone from Israeli rabbis to U.S. senators have noted, it seems to happen every single time the U.S. pressures Israel to divide the land.

The phenomenon was best documented by Bill Koenig, author of "Eye to Eye: Facing the Consequences of Dividing Israel."

Thanks for your candor and perceptiveness.

I believe you are onto something about hearing and faith—regardless.

The nerve pathways related to
—what we hear a lot
—what we say a lot
—and what we think on a lot

GET MUCH MORE THICKER AND NUMEROUS—which also relates to what we hold to be true, have confidence in—faith.

Hadn’t thought of that before reading your words.

I think you’re right.

I do believe it makes a very significant difference what our attitude is toward what we hear and what we tell ourselves about what we hear.

However, I do think massive amounts of hearing does have an effect.

The Commies say—tell a lie often enough and loudly enough and people will begin to believe it. They have proven that right tons of times.

That may be true, but they do claim our soldiers die and natural disasters occur because of U.S. acceptance of homosexuality.

Thanks.

For your kind reply.

A GREEK husband seeking to KNOW his wife exhaustively after the GREEK manner of seeking truth

would take a scalpel and dissect her organ by organ down to the tiniest sub-atomic particle.

A HEBREW husband seeking to KNOW his wife exhaustively after the HEBREW manner of seeking truth

would KNOW HER AS ADAM KNEW EVE—have sexual INTERCOARSE with her—lots.

I suspect the wife would have a preference for one over the other.

The purportedly ‘scientific’ method takes after the GREEK model.

Phenomenology takes after the HEBREW model.

A case study were one video tapes; takes exhaustive notes; etc. etc. is a phenomenological study.

Both methods have their strengths and weaknesses. My dissertation collected massive amounts of both kinds of data. So much that most of it remains unanalyzed. LOL.

The tragedy is that folks immersed in the RELIGION OF SCIENTISM end up believing that the pseudo-scientific method is the only route to truly truest truth.

I say pseudo-scientific because THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD ITSELF has PROVEN that there ARE NO TRULY OBJECTIVE observations. The very act of observing distorts reality at a subatomic level. Light can evidently be a particle or a wave. That’s phenomenology pure and simple.

So all this wailing about OBJECTIVE PROOF; SCIENTIFIC PROOF; OBJECTIVE REALITY—is at some level a huge farce.

That doesn’t mean there’s no usefulness in it. It’s provided us with a lot of increased understanding and pretty toys.

But it’s a delusion to think that it’s the Nirvana and purest reality regarding seeking truth.

I can’t recall more than 1 or 2, if that many, scientific types on the other side of issues ever even admit or acknowledge that fact in all my years on FR. To that degree—they are being hypocritically UNScientific.

Certainly I prefer solid, mutiply vetted, documented, tangible ‘scientific’ proof of the topics I’m interested in. BY THEIR VERY NATURE, HOWEVER, THAT’S NOT LIKELY TO OCCUR MUCH AT ALL—until the time when such spring brazenly onto the public square more or less unhidden any more.

In the mean time, we have these warehouses full of case studies and other phenomenological data

ALONG WITH A SMALL STORAGE BUILDING FULL OF NORMALLY SCIENTIFICALLY COLLECTED, VETTED AND ANALYZED DATA—which is still dismissed by folks whose minds are made up ahead of time.

I happen to think it’s utterly ignorant, clueless and stupid to ignore the phenomenological data.

I hope that helps answer your question.

There’s more evidence that’s true than that it’s not true.

Are any of us totally immune to what we hear?

Probably not, but at least we can endeavor to concentrate on something else when we want to ignore the speaker.

Thank you so very much for your encouragements, dear mitch5501!

"I happen to think it’s utterly ignorant, clueless and stupid to ignore the phenomenological data."

And "I happen to think it’s utterly ignorant, clueless and stupid to ignore", play down, or reject the other Fields of knowledge required for proper study of the Bible

For instance:

"...The genres of the Bible include narrative, poetry, proverbial literature, wisdom discourse, a treaty (that's what Deuteronomy is, believe it or not!), legal codes, genealogies, biography (that is what the Gospels are!), personal letters and general letters, rhetoric (an art form in the ancient world), riposte, and apocalyptic. Treating each one as a newspaper -- written yesterday and with our own ideas in mind -- is a mistake..."

<>//<>

Does the Bible teach that the Earth is flat?

"It should be understood that the Hebrews, like all ANE cultures, obviously lacked the scientific terminology we use to describe things today. We should not expect descriptions of "tectonic plates" or of "molten lava". On a lesser scale, we will find that the Hebrews lacked key words which would have been most useful in describing cosmological phenomena.

"Furthermore, we will not address certain words and verses that use "phenomenological" language - i.e., sunset, sunrise, or references to sun and stars moving. As we still use such terms today, in spite of hundreds of years of "knowing better", it should not reflect badly upon the use of such language in the Bible. ..."

Misuses of Sola Scriptura (Sola Scriptura Extremis (SSE)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2722990/posts?page=654#654

“It is a great mistake to take the doctrine of Sola Scriptura as though it were intended to seal the Bible in a vacuum allowing no ideas in or out. The language of the Bible, the social background of the Bible, the literary background of the Bible, are all components which affect its meaning. Short of resorting to KJV Onlyism or the reckless “personal inspiration” view which prefers some imagined private relevation from some other source over the work of scholars or those better informed, there is no consistent way to reject the use of background material to aid in its interpretation. ..”

Of course there is some merit in applying the specialized fields of knowledge to Biblical stuff.

There’s more merit in increasingly tuning into Holy Spirit’s leading into all truth.

Scripture did NOT say:

“Tarry in the upper room until agents of these 12 fields of specialized knowledge come and verify in triplicate all I have told you.”

Exactly. They don't know the Bible, because nowhere in Scripture does God tell us that soldiers die and natural disasters occur because of acceptance of homosexuality. They take what they think true Bible-believing Christians would say and then make a mockery of it and give the media and those who are not Christian ammunition to use against the body of Christ.

The only offense against God which has an established history of immediate judgment is a nation acting in ways which are harmful to Israel.

The Westboro Baptist Church are not Christians. They are a group of Democrats who exist to mock and attempt to discredit true Christians.

True.

I think I didn’t realize we were talking about the Westboro Church hideousness.

And, actually, Scripture itself

says that Soddom and Gomorroh’s

GREATEST SIN

was PRIDE

not homosexuality.

. . . though the latter certainly has an abundance of the former inherently.

When I asserted that there was more evidence . . . for . . . judgment because of homosexuality than against it . . .

I can’t think of a single culture in all of recorded history that long survived after supporting rampant, exalted unfettered homosexuality.

A nation is judged for homosexuality - but nowhere does Scripture say that soldiers die for the sin of homosexuality. And in Sodom and Gomorrah, there was only one righteous family in the entire place and God got them out before He destroyed the cities. That's how bad it had become. Just like with Noah, there are some rebellions and abominations that God will wait to judge, giving those who participate in the offenses time to repent and turn away from what they are doing.

The only time that God has historically immediately judged a nation is when that nation acts to harm Israel.

The Westboro Baptist Church (notice the name they chose- brings up visuals of a whitewashed little church on a country road in a Walt Disney World Main Street-type town) has not one scintilla of Christianity about it. They do what they do to discredit true Christians and cause people to turn away from Christ.

Caution...."the Holy Spirit's leading" can be nothing other then the "voices in your head".

"...Short of resorting to KJV Onlyism or the reckless “personal inspiration” view which prefers some imagined private relevation from some other source over the work of scholars or those better informed, there is no consistent way to reject the use of background material to aid in its interpretation. ..”

"I can’t think of a single culture in all of recorded history that long survived after supporting rampant, exalted unfettered homosexuality."

Dennis Prager: "....Indeed, Judaism may be said to have invented the notion of homosexuality, for in the ancient world sexuality was not divided between heterosexuality and homosexuality. That division was the Bible's doing. Before the Bible, the world divided sexuality between penetrator (active partner) and penetrated (passive partner). ..."

<>

"...we are dealing here with the world of principles, not individuals.... it is commonplace for heterosexuals to violate these principles, so it would be a mistake to look only at the outward, superficial behavior, i.e., the choice of sexual object. ...For example, many heterosexual men may look like they're having sex with another, when they are actually masturbating with a projected fantasy figure. There is no real relation between persons, which is to say, love. As Upton explains, "the Sodomite is violent against nature because he denies relatedness to the Other; his erotic energy is turned inward." This is indeed the key point. Man cannot engage in mere animal sexuality without sinking beneath even the animals, who are innocent in their animality. ...To mature is to discover that every object desired is only the metaphor for the transcendent object of our desire. And only the crudest intellect would fail to see how this applies to all worlds inhabited by man, for sexual polarity is merely a higher principle projected into the world of biology. Thus, there are "intellectual sodomites" who "are intelligent on a certain level" but who "remain spiritually blind.""

Have you ever watched a super horse rider/trainer . . . or a shepherd with an award winning border collie?

who can direct their animal with very subtle hand or other body movements?

ALMIGHTY GOD tends to LIKE that sort of relationship with HIS KIDS.

It’s HIS preference.

Your method is NOT inherently greatly safer . . . in a list of ways.

It merely changes the nature of the type of errors.
