Report: Human error, inadequate fire alarm contributed to Provo Tabernacle fire (Mormonism)

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Provo City Fire Department has released the full report on the December Provo Tabernacle fire.

The 135-page report outlines events leading up to the fire from December 17th that destroyed the historic landmark in Provo.

Trax Lighting and AV arrived at the Tabernacle a few days before the fire to setup lighting for a concert that was to be taped by BYU Broadcasting.

During the setup of a lighting truss, a technician said he set aside two lamps that were part of the in-house lighting system.

Fire officials believe these lights were placed too close to a speaker which started the fire two days later.

The report notes a number of circumstances and human errors that contributed to the unintentionally set fire.

Provo fire says the fire alarm in the building was inadequate and failed an inspection on December 2nd, two weeks before the fire.

The fire alarm system was only monitored in the building, meaning an alarm wouldn't automatically trigger a response from the fire department.

There was also not an automatic sprinkler system in the building that fire official believe would have controlled the fire.

The fire alarm system had a history of false alarms that may have have lead building personnel to "become apathetic to the system as a whole."

At 1:10am the morning of the fire, a fire alarm was triggered and a security guard disabled the alarm and did not contact the fire department, delaying a response to the fire by nearly an hour and a half.

If the temple had been wearing it magic underwear, it would have been protected from thos fire.

There was that movie line, "If you build it [the baseball field in the cornfield], they will come [the occultic dead spirits."

You might be onto something:
If you build it [magic underwear for Mormon-owned structures],
they will come [the consumers, knowing that the occultic dead spirits that pop up all the time in Lds temples will arrive on the scene to protect those structures].

Anybody want to do a test run on it? [I would market it slightly distinctly, tho -- like Building Overwear or Building Overalls or somethin' like that or maybe "Covenant Building Overalls"...whaddayathink?

LOL they are sweet. It looks like EllieMay is telling you not to come near her with that dam curry comb..

Any fiber can be spun, some people even spin their dogs hair. My lab just got back from the doggie parlor today, she was shaggy as a buffalo, now sleek and smooth. I have enough hair clumps floating around my house to use to knit a sweater. Now I can vacumn and suck them all up. This winter she has shed enough to make 2 medium size dogs...

I don't see your blond one in that picture....:O) Your sweet goats sure have it easy except for the currycomb..:O)

They’re like big cats but even more inquisitive.

You've nailed their personalities all right!

Cats will ignore you and act like they haven't heard you, while goats will ignore you while looking right at you!

No WONDER they are called KIDS, for they're into EVERYTHING you have around!

Do NOT try to build something while they are about, for one will eat the cardboard box your nails are in while another tries to chew your circular saws cord in pieces, while another puts teeth marks all over the wood you want to use!

Indeed!

I've two things that'll run them off: the comb and the spray bottle with the bug spray in it.

Well, three, for they really don't care to see the hoof trimmer coming their way either.

Ol' Casper is probably just off somewhere, chewing his cud. He REALLY doesn't like to move around too much - lazy butt!

His hooves need trimed the most often. The others have black hooves, but his is white: grows about twice as fast.

I don't have enough rocks and cement for them to climb on that would keep them sanded down naturally, so I have to do it.

Jack will stand there and let me cut his without being held steady. The other 3 are like giving wildcats baths!

I hear you on the hoof trimming...I did mine every 3-4 months. When I took the goats down, I wormed them, deloused them and trimmed the hoofs all at the same time. All the goats except the big bucks and wethers I could do myself, hubby had to help with the big ones...It was fun and really kept you in shape, catching and throwing anywhere for 20 to 70 goats, depending on the year..

Its been 20 years since I sold the farm, but still have the hooftrimming shears. They are great for cutting old toenails that get harder and thicker as you get old...LOL

Yup; I bought some CDT for them yesterday when I picked up the wheel hub key at TSC.

From the Sound of Music
Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2V38Uq4K7I

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Folks in a town that was quite remote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Lusty and clear from the goatherd’s throat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

O ho lay dee odl lee o, o ho lay dee odl ay

A prince on the bridge of a castle moat heard

Men on a road with a load to tote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Men in the midst of a table d’hote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Men drinking beer with the foam afloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Soon her Mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
What a duet for a girl and goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Ummm (ummm)...
Odl lay ee (odl lay ee)
Odl lay hee hee (odl lay hee hee)
Odl lay ee ...

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard

“We are to do our own study and ask God ourselves if it is true.”

Hiya, K-Ben-K.

May I ask what it is that you are to ask God if true or not?”

“We are to do our own study and ask God ourselves if it is true.”

Then those Bereans had it wrong.

They didn't ask GOD anything!

In the Book of Acts, Chapter 17 verse 11,

Paul of Tarsus and Silas preached at Berea, and the inhabitants

"... received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

, and many of them believed.

I find it a common idea among Anti-Mormons to say it is wrong to pray for Gods guidance in understanding God's word.

Are you also saying that we need not pray and get guidance from God?

You ASSUME the first, and build straw with the second.

Cute.

Ones does not NEED to 'pray to GOD' to understand "Thou shalt not steal", does one?

The NEW Testement PLAINly states that ONE man shall have ONE wife; DOES IT NOT?

WHY did JS and other 'leaders' IGNORE the Word of GOD and listen to VOICES in their HEADS?

I find it a common idea among mormons to say that the ONLY way to find God's guidance in understanding the word is from prayer.

I also find that mormons lack critical thinking skills that the same God has provided man to gain understanding from the written word.

I also find that mormons fail to use the tools available to understand more difficult passages - to apply cultural context and the definitions of the associated greek or hebrew underlying the english text. Further, I find that mormons have no knowledge what the term 'context' means when reading scripture - tending to cherry pick the verse and lift it from its greater context and redefine the terms altogether.

I find that mormons brainlessly follow what they are told a passage means, rather than dig it out for themselves.

But then you missed elsie's point altogether and didn't even come close to addressing it - did the Bereans have it wrong, simple yes or no, unless you are willing to provide detailed justification otherwise.
