Lately, there seems to be a lot of conflict on the religion forum. Much of this has been between Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. To show that we are all united as Christians and to reduce animosity, I hope we can all agree to one of 4 following statements:
1) I am Catholic. I love Orthodox and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
2) I am Protestant. I love Orthodox and Catholic Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Catholics to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
3) I am an Orthodox Christian. I love Catholic and Protestant Christians. I consider Catholics and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
4) I am a non-believer. I love Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
I feel confident that most freepers agree to at least one of these statements, even if they do not say so.
If you agree with any of these statements, please feel free to say so.
Thanks!
I agree, we have more than a few trolls on the “christian” postings.
generally it goes
“how can you be so absolutist!”
or
“god loves everyone, there fore he loves [insert behavior here}”
or
“the bible never said that”
or
“my church is more christian than your church”
or
some other troll phrase.
As a criteria? You bet it is. Again, show me in the Bible where belief in Sola Fide is required in order to be a Christian. It isn't what we know that is the problem, but that which we think we know...
You say 'Presbyterians believe in Infant Baptism which isn't Biblical, Replacement Theology, which CERTAINLY isn't Biblical, and in exclusive predestination, which also is not Biblical.' and 'I am OPC Presbyterian, and I have spent many a day of fellowship with my SDA friends.' how can you put those together?
How can you not?
SDA folks are not Christian and you spending a day of fellowship with them is spending 'fellowship' or worshipping with non-Christians.
You sound like Peter slipping away from the Gentiles to go eat with the Jews... Paul whupped him soundly for that.
That is the long slide to hell, FRiend.
No, wrapping yourself in doctrine and sitting upon your pampered a** while folks are dying for lack of knowledge - THAT is the long slide to hell.
My favorite verse... :D
"Danger Will Robinson!"
Then PROVE it!
"Uh... if GOD is going to save you; He'll "direct your actions". Do not worry.
If GOD is NOT going to save you; don't worry; for there is NOTHING you can do about it; Loser!"
“Anyone who cannot even be sure of his or her own salvation is in no position to pass judgment on another’s.”
Well, while there is a difference btwn knowing you are saved now, which 1Jn. 5:13 provides for, and faith that the Lord will keep you in the faith, (2Tim. 1:12) and bring one to repentance as needed, (1Cor. 11:32) and warning of falling from grace, (Gal. 5:1-4), the assurance of 1Jn. 5:13 - which refers to the characterization of faith which preceded it - appeals to that which is censured by Rome as providing assurance, that being private interpretation, as that is something the great infallible magisterium can provide.
Yet, in condemning those who believe in the classic Prot. belief in the perseverance of the saints (which is not the same as the saved can live like the devil), Rome’s special revelation clause allows for that a very subjective means of knowing, far more than interpreting scriptures:
CANON XVI.-If any one saith, that he will for certain, of an absolute and infallible certainty, have that great gift of perseverance unto the end,-unless he have learned this by special revelation; let him be anathema. - http://history.hanover.edu/early/trent/ct06.html
Dang!
If Jesus had just KNOWN this, He could have saved Himself a LOT of pain and trouble!
Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers!
All hell, boil over!
Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last.
I have more to boast of than ever any man had.
I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam.
A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it.
I boast that no man ever did such a work as I.
The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.
You know my daily walk and conversation. I am in the bosom of a virtuous and good people. How I do love to hear the wolves howl!
When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go.
--Joseph Smith
"...no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith,"
--Brigham Young (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 289)
It seems quite clear to me; even usin g 400 year old language...
Ephesians 2:8-9 (King James Version)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
I guess I am.
Is that a BAD thing?
Well, so much for the goal of “Chritian unity” on Freerepublic!
Are you trying to call us robots?
Among mine:
"Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."
And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Then those who were at table with Him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?"
And He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
Luke 7:47-50
No; I am not TRYING to.
No problem
Thank you.
