SALT LAKE CITY (RNS) Amid the prospect of presidential runs by Jon Huntsman Jr. and Mitt Romney, reporters are bombarding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with calls about the potential candidates and their Mormon faith.
SNIP
The novelty of two high-profile Mormons possibly competing for the nations highest office guarantees the 14 million-member faith a place in the national spotlight. But experts are divided about whether that would help or hurt the church and how much of a factor Mormonism would be in either potential campaign.
In the long run, it would be good for the church, said David Campbell, a political scientist at the University Notre Dame and a Mormon.
SNIP
Romneys first run at the White House did not change attitudes toward Mormons, either among those who liked him or didnt, Campbell said. Attitudes about Mormonism were fixed.
John Green, an expert in religion and politics at the University of Akron in Ohio, agreed.
SNIP
Mormonism continues to be among the least popular religions in America, Green said, and white evangelical Protestantsa force in the GOPview the faiths doctrines with suspicion and its missionaries as competitors for converts.

Kelly Patterson, a Brigham Young University political scientist, is more optimistic about his church and possible Mormon candidates.

Politicians such as Romney can be very adaptive, he said...

Romney wouldnt survive the exposure of the polygamy, racism and false religion aspects of mormomism...
His own father George Romney was the son, grandson, great grandson of a polygamist family...
Romney belongs to a religion that practiced and had a religious tenet of racism for more than 150 years...
Romney belongs to a religion that was invented by Joseph Smith a criminal and serial adulterer who wanted to replace Christianity with his own version of Islam...
The MSM would have a field day with any of these parts of mormonism
Romney went to Planned Parenthood open parties back in 1992 and his wife gave Planned Parenthood a check that year, too)

Its that Margaret Sanger/racism/black babies thing...
Polygamy is not as bad as gay marriage though.

But according to the God of the Christian Bible, they both are equally evil and sin...
They think of Mormonism like another flavor of Christianity, like Methodist or Presbyterian.

And yet the mormons dead dunked my ancestors who clearly had Methodist or Presbyterian on their death records into mormonism in order to make “christians” of them...
Manslaughter is not as bad as murder.
Arson is not as bad as rape.
Burglary is not as bad as armed robbery.
See where I'm going?
Polytheism vs. monotheism. I can see what Judaism and Christianity have in common.
Christians worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
I'd vote for a snake charmer if he followed the Constitution and kept the fedgov out of things it shouldn't be involved in.
That would be nice if it were the case. But it is not. Christianity is Tri-une. And Christianity throws a god-man into the godhead to boot. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob worshiped HaShem, The Name, יְהוָה , a Singular Unity not a "multiple" unity.
What is meant regarding NOah that he was perfect in his generations?
I really don’t have the problems with Polygamy that I have with Gay Marriage.
Polygamy means more babies, and a few years after than, more workers paying into Social Security.
Gay Marriage is extinctionary. If everyone did that, there would be no humans in 120 years.
A good public policy argument can be made in favor of Polygamy. Can’t be done for gay marriage.
Well; this is a NICE question; but it is the WRONG question!
Will MORMONism hurt or help Romney, Huntsman?
The one's on FR KNOW that MKORMONism is a HERESY!
The one's on FR KNOW that MORMONism is a HERESY!
SAdly; most of THEM think they are CHRISTIANS themselves!
Another good succinct summary from you, Ejones.
It'll help...
* ...jack Mormons, as some may finally realize, "Yes, no wonder I became inactive from this religiosity! It's time to officially disassociate from Mormonism and to take a new view of Christianity..."
* ... Cafeteria Mormons, who may realize, "There's just no way I can continue to be embarrassed by some of these Mormon teachings...In the past when I've gone through the Mormon buffet line, I've just ignored these offerings. But the fact that the Mormon church even serves them up as something they expect people to swallow...Just wow!"
* ...new & young Mormons...who often haven't been exposed to all of classical Mormonism...the outright Mormon-"scripture" based racism...how eternal polygamy is STILL taught in the church (just postponed on earth)...blood atonement taught for over 20 years by the namesake of their leading university...the sheer contradictory statements made by their general authorities...
I really don’t like using religious argument to justify my points. I do like it when other people do. But a lot of people don’t.
I’m not an expert here.
Where is the bible quote that says polygamy and gay marriage are just as bad?
Polygamy has been a part of one culture or another throughout history.
Gay has always been frowned upon everywhere, except in collapsing civilization. Gay Marriage is completely new.
We wuz FOR polygamy affore we wuz against it!
And then by...
"...and after this; the judgement."
