I posted something by Chesterton yesterday, and some FReepers really liked it. Here is something else.

Sorry for the cheesy emoticon but it’s how I feel after reading that

Thanks for the Chesterton posts, the big guy never disappoints.
Nine out of ten of what we call new ideas are simply old mistakes.
Yes, hidden away by the obscurity of history only to rise again as a lightbulb in a fools mind.
It sounds harmless to say, as most modern people have said: "Actions are only wrong if they are bad for society." Follow it out, and sooner or later you will have the inhumanity of a hive
A few of us went around and around with this on an earlier thread about Atheism. It is the morality of Atheism, and the only morality Atheism can support.

Whew! Thank God I'm already a Catholic, or I might have had to read all that! ;)
but seriously folks: Chesterton's always worth the time. I just have a long to-do list at the moment.
Common sense bump.

Wow, that was a great read.

It knows where the Bible came from. I've always found it curious that people of other Christian religions don't wish to discuss the history of their Bible. Usually they don't know and don't care, while at the same time holding fast to sola scriptura.

If you have a Chesterton ping list, can you add me? I should read this and other things by him.

Nothing is more likely just now than that the corruption of representative government will lead to the rich breaking loose altogether, and trampling on all the traditions of equality with mere pagan pride. Timeless words of the reality of the world we are living in from Chesterton.

It is doing what the Puritans wanted done when it is really wanted. In all probability, all that is best in Protestantism will only survive in Catholicism; and in that sense all Catholics will still be Puritans when all Puritans are Pagans.
This is a good one.

I'll gladly give Chesterton a ping!
For anyone interested that has access to the EWTN network there is a 30 minute show about Chesterton and his writings on Sunday night at 9pm. You can also download the audio of some of those shows here:
Chesterton audio 1
Chesterton audio 2
I am just finishing up "The collected works Vol 3"; I highly recommend it!

Here’s another:
THE DONKEY
G.K. Chesterton
When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born;
With monstrous head and sickening cry
And ears like errant wings,
The devil’s walking parody
On all four-footed things.
The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.
Fools! For I also had my hour;
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout about my ears,
And palms before my feet.
Always wondered why Christmas Eve wasn’t also mentioned.
