As far as Joseph Smith and his various pictures, I would say there are as many 'different' concepts of Joseph Smith, as there are of Jesus of Nazareth.

BNut WHY?

There are PHOTOGRAPHS of him, as well as a DEATH MASK.

ANY paintings that do NOT adhere to those AUTHENTIC images, must be trying to tell a different tale...

So; do the PICTURES illustrate what the RECORD has described??

"Now the way he translated was he put the urim and thummim into his hat and Darkned his Eyes than he would take a sentance and it would apper in Brite Roman Letters. Then he would tell the writer and he would write it. Then that would go away the next sentance would Come and so on. But if it was not Spelt rite it would not go away till it was rite, so we see it was marvelous. Thus was the hol [whole] translated."
---Joseph Knight's journal.

"In writing for your father I frequently wrote day after day, often sitting at the table close by him, he sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us."
(History of the RLDS Church, 8 vols.
(Independence, Missouri: Herald House,1951),
"Last Testimony of Sister Emma [Smith Bidamon]," 3:356.

"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."
---(David Whitmer,
as published in the "Kansas City Journal," June 5, 1881,
and reprinted in the RLDS "Journal of History", vol. 8, (1910), pp. 299-300.

In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:

"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."

"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."
(Edward Stevenson, "One of the Three Witnesses,"
reprinted from Deseret News, 30 Nov. 1881
in Millennial Star, 44 (6 Feb. 1882): 86-87.)

In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:

"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."
(W.W. Blair interview with Michael Morse,
Saints Herald, vol. 26, no. 12
June 15, 1879,  pp. 190-91.)

Joseph Smith's brother William also testified to the "face in the hat" version:

"The manner in which this was done was by looking into the Urim and Thummim, which was placed in a hat to exclude the light, (the plates lying near by covered up), and reading off the translation, which appeared in the stone by the power of God"
("A New Witness for Christ in America,"
Francis W. Kirkham, 2:417.)

"The manner in which he pretended to read and interpret was the same manner as when he looked for the money-diggers, with the stone in his hat, while the book of plates were at the same time hid in the woods."
---Isaac Hale (Emma Smith's father's) affidavit, 1834.

Elsie, why are we fighting with Mormons? The truth is all any of us need. Jesus said there would be many false prophets and so we read the Scriptures so that we may know the truth and who our brethren are.

I have no desire to know what the Mormons believe and I don’t want to be the one to condemn so many people. Not while there is time left on this planet that they could be saved.

Pray for them, but don’t beat them up. Show them the beginning words of the BOM and ask them who does this sound like?

“I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days.”

That is the most upside down satanic sounding introduction and you won’t find that anywhere among God’s prophets. Because he has “goodly parents”? Because he is highly favored of God in all his days? Of HIS proceedings? In HIS days? Are ya kidding me??? It’s so obvious, how can anyone not see it?

“Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians. And I know that the record which I make is true; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge.”

Right there he puffs himself up based on HIS OWN KNOWLEDGE. For whatever reason the writer of this book sent up a flag and shouted “look at me, look at me, I’m about as far from God as they come, but follow me anyway” and they are.

This is practically an “in-your-face” “I am not God” but look how they follow me anyway.

But it is my prayer that God sees those that are earnestly seeking Him, and like the widow that cast her last two pennies into the cashbox of the Temple that crucified Christ...if they believe in the foundation of Christ, I just pray it will be considered a true foundation.

But the leaders are in serious trouble. How could they read those opening words, study so much and not know?

They have to choose to be blind to fall for that. And to take people down that road with them, I just hope they reconsider.

Lol okay now I’m confused, I even looked it up in the K’tuvim, I don’t see anything in Isaiah 50:6 about his hair or skin being any particular color. I would really love to know that if it’s written somewhere.

But I think we’re not supposed to know because He is to be approachable to all. And if we have a preconceived notion of what He looks like, well, I wouldn’t want my first reaction to seeing Christ to be, “hey, that’s not how I pictured Him”

In the last six months I’ve become acutely aware of Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God...”

How do we just sort of like, ignore that?

How many ‘Christians’ still believe Jesus was a ‘Christian’

Most of them do....He was of course a Jew, but once He established the New Covenant and was baptized by John, he was indeed a convert to Christianity (Catholicism)

Question for you or any of your sidekicks: As a Mormon did any of you ever lie about Mormon history or Mormon teachings?

Omission's....are as bad as outright lies in my book.

Or pathetic...."Well that was then, this is now." OR "We've had NEW revelation!"

Huh?

Jen, MormonISM is the battle.  MORMONs join that fight at their own risk.

You are right, as the BIBLE clearly describes TRUTH and whatever deviates from that is heresy: thus MORMONism.

You had BETTER find out what Mormons believe; so you can tell the DIFFERENCE between TRUTH and heresy.

Do not worry about comdemning ANYONE.

The BIBLE has made it PERFECTLY clear what CONDEMNS a person.

John 3:14-18

14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Can one believe a TREE will save him?  A set of rituals; a golden calf?   A Personage?

No; it is Jesus, and He alone that saves.

MORMONism claims that they DO worship and trust in JESUS; but, if one reads the writings of MORMONism, it becomes quite CLEAR that THEIR JESUS seems to be quite different from the one found in the BIBLE.

Jesus Montoya, our neighbors gardener, makes no claims about his ability to save your soul.

Jesus Personage, found in MormonISM, does.

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

It does NOT just say 'study'; but do so to make yourself APPROVED unto GOD.

But; I'll bet that is how EVERYONE will react!

I know that YOU will look different than I picture you now; so why shouldn't Jesus? ;^)

But the DEVIL's in 'em!

Well, LC, why do you think I was trying to avoid the details? Could it be because the DEVIL IS IN the details???

By arguing minute details, and declaring all others 'wrong', and only one's self right, and condemning or judging others, isn't one doing the devil's bidding?
