From the article: ...found guilty of two first-degree felony sex crimes will not be getting a new trial...The LDS bishop of both Millett and the girl also wrote two letters to the court, at least one of which expressed some disconnect between what the girl told her bishop and what she wrote in her statement. However, after much debate about what sections of the journal would be allowed and stipulations from both sides that the bishop's letters were not admissible, the victim got on the stand and repeatedly said that although she didn't want to go to police and that she didn't like working with them, her statement is factual.

From the article: Millett was found guilty of attempted rape and forcible sodomy in April in regards to his relationship with the then-14-year-old girl, who was his neighbor. He pleaded guilty in July to kidnapping and forcible sexual abuse, both second-degree felonies, in a separate incident; according to a police affidavit he and some friends tried to convince a 16-year-old girl to strip for them, and when she refused they held her down and removed her clothing.

New Update: Teen avoids prison time in sexual abuse cases

Excerpt from latest article: Prosecutor Craig Johnson asked for prison in the case, saying Millett has already been given numerous chances by juvenile and adult courts. He pointed out that Millett had 12 offenses as a juvenile, including two within days of his birthday. He also had a burglary charge a week after he turned 18 before the two sexual abuse cases. Johnson said he did not know what would get Millett's attention, and he did not want to see more victims. "Thirteen times now, he's failed," Johnson said. "There shouldn't be a 14th." Several families spoke on Millett's behalf, and his supporters filled the courtroom's benches. Family members contested the facts in his cases, saying he made foolish mistakes, but the police were not impartial in their reports. His mother said what Millett did was "teen stuff," and said the kidnapping case involved teasing that went too far. She said her son was initially charged with aggravated kidnapping in the case, but another juvenile involved was charged only with a misdemeanor.

Ah, Utah "justice" for dozen-time offender just convicted of double-felony sex abuses gets one year of local jail vs. prison time. (Won't get credit for just over a year already served...so that works out to about a year per felony)

“Thirteen times now, he’s failed,” Johnson said.

Is this because this is Utah or because the perp is a mormon that crimes are called “fail(ings)” ???

In TN we dont say a rapist “failed”

In TN we dont say a burglar “failed”

In fact it would be that the perp successed to be a rapist or a burglar...

Why the heck is the LDS bishop getting involved?
