CHARLOTTE, N.C. In shopping around for a Cub Scout program for their two sons, ages 6 and 8, Jeremy and Jodi Stokes decided on the one at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, N.C.
The Stokeses, also of Matthews, weren't members of the evangelical megachurch, but they had many friends who were. And unlike the Cub Scout pack at their own church, which doesn't have a program for 6-year-old Tiger Scouts, Christ Covenant's was big enough to accommodate both of their boys.
The couple even signed up to be Scout leaders when they discovered the church needed adult help. And when the Scouting officials at Christ Covenant found out Jeremy Stokes was an Eagle Scout, they were thrilled.
So why did Christ Covenant reject the Stokeses' application to be Scout leaders?
Because they're Mormons. And, therefore, not real Christians, church officials told the couple.
"I can't believe they had the audacity to say, 'You can't be leaders, but we want your boys,' " Jodi Stokes said. "Are you kidding me?"
The Rev. Gabe Sylvia, Christ Covenant's staff liaison to the Scouting program, confirmed the Stokeses' account. He called them to apologize but defends the church's decision.
"When it became clear that they were Mormons, they could not become leaders in our pack. Mormonism is not consistent with historical Christianity," he said.
That view that Mormons, whose church is formally titled the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are not Christians is shared by other Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox Christian churches, as well.
"It was so offensive," said Jodi Stokes, who was raised Catholic, then became a Mormon. "I have a picture of Jesus in my living room."
Members of the Salt Lake City-based church believe salvation is possible because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But significant theological differences separate Mormons from most Christian churches.
The LDS church treats as holy scripture the Book of Mormon, which isn't recognized by other churches, but which it believes was divinely revealed to Joseph Smith in the 1820s.
Mormons also disavow belief in the core Christian doctrine of the Trinity that the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one instead believing the three to be individuals united in a single purpose.
Mormons believe the original Christian church vanished 100 years after Jesus' death and resurrection. The authentic church, they believe, was restored by Smith.
Words like "false" "wrong" "error" "misleading" do not attribute motive.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
So now you assert that posting the actual quotes from your prophet and teachers is ‘propaganda’? Bwahahahahahaha ... and shame on me? LOL, you wish!
So “Misrepresentation” is ok?
Yes
Excellent.
So now you assert that posting the actual quotes from your prophet and teachers is propaganda?
Nope. Never said that. More twisted thinking on your part. No surprise.
Purple...
Feelings, nothing more than feelings... placemarker
Of course, one or two other Mormon posters are not able to follow the flow of discussion and have little or no foundation even in the heresies of Mormonism, as they are 'go along with the directives' Mormons you cannot expect honesty from such since they feel the need to obfuscate openly, posting a list of web connections which will do the 'witnessing'.
Sad really, that the haystack posters know so little of the heretical rot found at their links, but we post the quotes from the leadership of LDS inc anyway and ignore the ignorance on parade.
I wonder though, does Mormonism teach the adherents to twist truths, so that the twisted sentence fits the mold of Moronism fallacy? I mean, when someone who is honest states that they do not believe God will torment 'forever' those who behave well in life, it is obvious that somewhere a twisted image has been conveyed and believed.
The Bible clearly teaches that it is the non-believer who seals their own destiny, and that God intends there to be a place of outer darkness for those unfit to be in His presence is not incredible at all: God is righteous and cannot allow unrighteousness in His presence else it diminish His righteousness.
The flesh veils the inner man, as Jesus taught when He spoke of what comes up out of the heart defiling the man, not what goes in at the mouth of the man. The God Who created the Universe is greater than His creation. The god of Mormonism is not greater than the Universe since the Mormon god had to have something already in existence which he could manipulate to fashion things.
The jesus of Mormonism is a created thing made from whatever was in existence that the Mormon god used to sire his 'spirit offspring'. The Mormon god was created by an earlier god, and so on backward for some unspecified length of time. The God Mormons don't know, Who created the Universe, created Time and Space and all that is in the Universe, by His Word, and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us in Jesus The Christ.
Perhaps an honest Mormon can someday find this real Jesus, Who is God, the Real God Who was before there was anything made, in Whom was the Word and The Word was God. We can pray for that eventuality.
We are told by these underwhelming mormon apologists that if we want to by a GM car, we shouldn’t go to any source about the car but GM.
How logical is that? GM has a vested interest in having you BUY that car. They will tell you “look at the lines” of the car, feel the leather, etc. They’ll tell you anything in order to get you to ‘commit’ to buying it.
Someone who is interested in confirming the truth will seek out other sources (Car and Driver, Consumer reports), who will independently evaluate the vehicle, and recommend one way or another - not relying upon ‘emotions’ or ‘feelings’ but road tested reality.
Snake oil salesmen made money based upon emotional responses - not truth, and when the truth was known they were generally run out of town (if they hadn’t beat feet earlier).
I prefer that the snake oil salesmen are exposed from the start, and not after they have poisoned their ‘customers’, just like I would that those lemons not be sold to unsuspecting Christians.
In the story of the Pharisee and the Publican, a parable Jesus told to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, the Pharisee says: God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get. And of course Jesus means that this is not a good way to pray, that this would be a case of someone who does, wrongly, trust in his own righteousness.
Here ya go!

When it comes to matters about God, I would suggest that the most trustworthy source to consult is God himself.
Good morning from a premier snake oil salesman! Sorry about the scenery I have to look at this time of year.
I have a MASSIVE front moving thru right now with 50 mph winds that is taking all 13 acres of leaves and placing them in the northern neighbors cornfield!
It is time to go to town for breakfast!
(The wife is on vacation this week so I may not be on here as much..Something about a honeydew list...)
Where the rangers found some writings embedded in the stonework of one of the houses a few years back?
I was swimming there the week after they had let the large amount of water out of Lake Powell to scrub the canyon.
