ELCA Invents New Sin, Believing and Following Scripture is Sinful!
Exposing the ELCA ^ | 09/28/2010 | Dan Skogen

For people who disagree with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's policy changes on homosexuality, these have been trying times. Yet we are told, "The ELCA took pains to not declare winners and losers. But to rather acknowledge that we were not of one mind as a church body around these issues. That we affirm and support people of conscience who have conflicting views over this." - ELCA Saint Paul Area Synod Bishop Peter Rogness

The truth is the ELCA does not affirm or support your view if you believe what Scripture says about homosexuality. They call your view “sinful” and view you as sinner for holding to Scripture.

I believe that Later Term Abortionist Tiller was an active member of an ELCA church. Oddly enough, this church didn’t have much to say about his sin of killing babies.

“Our actions have destroyed faith and have led people away from the gospel’s call to love and justice.”

These people are cracked! There is no “gospel of love and justice”...the Scriptures speak of a Gospel (note upper case) of Belief and Repentance. After you believe and repent, then we are commanded to love one another, but not to condone or accept sin within our ranks.

This Hermeneutic is flawed to the extreme!! These teachers in the ELCA will be held accountable before our Lord for this hogwash.

My first thought also.

God’s word says there is no justice, except God’s justice. The governing authorities are called to justice, not the individual.

The individual is to believe, repent, follow Christ, become as much as possible like Christ, and spread his word.

Great. Now replace "homosexuality" with "murder" or "adultery". Maybe the ELCA can start calling them "The Ten suggestions" too.

Yes ELCA member Killer Tiller was what Bishops like Rogness and Mark Hanson like to call their "brother in Christ."

ELCA is officially a pro-abortion church, as long as you furrow your brow and purse your lips while deciding to kill your baby. But they do have standards: if you just do it for the fun of it, you are going too far.

The main issues are ones of epistemology and authority. How do you determine what you believe and how you act? The Lutheran Reformation determined these questions based upon the teachings of Scripture, which were regarded as authoritative and revelatory. The Scriptures held the magisterial position in which all doctrines and practices had to conform to the Scriptures. The only God that I know is the God that is revealed in Scripture, and the only way of knowing what is pleasing to God is found in Scripture. Outside of Scripture, as Luther said, one will only find the Devil. The Devil is precisely what the ELCA has found, and she is now following the Devil.

Whenever one says or believes that he can take or leave parts of Scripture, or determine for himself what is just “allegory” and what is truth to base beliefs on,

that one is putting himself in the place of God.

Original sin - “you will be as gods, knowing [ie, defining] good and evil”

The plain and simple truth is that for the ELCA and the other liberal denominations the Scriptures are no longer normative for matters of faith and practice. The Scriptures are interpreted through the lens of a secular and liberal ideology. Their clergy sound more like partisans of the French Revolution with shouts of Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, than prophets of God. I was told two weeks ago by an ELCA pastor that St. Paul was full of crap. He expressed his views in a crude way, but at least he was being honest. The ELCA clergy and many of its members adamantly believe that the Bible is full of crap, but they express those views in a more sophisticated way.
