Pope Benedict XVI yesterday stopped to give a police dog an unexpected pat while thanking some of the 2,000 members of the West Midlands Police who had helped to protect him during his visit.
After meeting the seminarians of England, Wales and Scotland at Oscott College, Sutton Coldfield, the Pope saw Jake, a black Springador who acts as an explosives sniffer for the police.
Wading through a crowd of public servants the Pope was greeted by the dog, who appeared to enjoy the attention....

I had a mixed golden lab and ? years ago.He was a very good fellow.

The only thing better than owning a lab is owning 3 labs.
He does, however, draw the line at certain dogs. For example, he isn’t fond of Helen Thomas, Rosie, Joy, Whoopi or Hillary.

So true! And look how that doggie is looking up at the Pope! The dog understands that this person is someone who likes and respects him.
This is nice because those of us who follow all things Benedict XVI know that he especially likes cats!
I haven't heard that, but he loves cats. There was one in particular that used to live at his apartment, but the Vatican made him leave the cat behind when he moved into the Papal apartments. There is a book about that cat, written from the cat's point of view.
