Can We Better Understand Glenn Beck's Divine Destiny
By Understanding What the Mormon Church Says About The Constitution, America, and the Last Days?

By Brannon S. Howse

Understanding the end-time beliefs of the Mormon Church and their view of America and the Constitution may help you understand "Glenn Beck's Divine Destiny".  The guest on my radio program today was Ed Decker, a former Mormon for twenty years before becoming Christian. On the program I played sound bites of a speech given by Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson entitled "Our Divine Constitution" and Ed responds. Please remember that Glenn has said that he is a Mormon and to our knowledge has never publically renounced his Mormon religion.

Glenn Beck said on his TV program on August 26, 2010, that the event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, August 28, 2010, will not a political event. A few days before this Glenn said the event will not be a Christian event but a God event. What God are we talking about? Is Glenn acknowledging that it is indeed all about a spiritual agenda that has been well laid out by leading Mormon leaders including the now deceased President of the Mormon Church, Ezra Taft Benson? Glenn said that the money for this event was raised months ago. Did the Mormon Church assist in covering the costs for this event and if so for what purpose? Here are the sound bites we played on the radio program today from the speech given by Ezra Taft Benson.

Ezra Taft Benson: I reverence the Constitution of the United States as a sacred document. To me its words are akin to the revelations of God, for God has placed His stamp of approval upon it.

Brannon Howse:  This is out right heresy! We are told in Deuteronomy 4:2 not to "add to the word which I commanded you, nor take from it." Saying the Constitution is "akin to the revelation of God" is adding to the Bible and is for sure lowering the supremacy of the Word of God and thus heresy. If the Constitution is akin to the Word of God, why has it been changed so many times?

Ezra Taft Benson: I have faith that the Constitution will be saved as prophesied by Joseph Smith….It will be saved by enlightened members of this Church-among others-men and women who understand and abide the principles of the Constitution.

Brannon Howse: It is the Mormon Church and "enlightened" Mormons that will save America? If America is to be saved it will not be by the false gospel and false Jesus of the Mormons following the principles of the Constitution that they have elevated to being equal to the words of God. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says that "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Part of the wickedness America needs to turn from is following the Jesus of the cults or the Jesus of Oprah's New Age Movement. The very thing the Mormons are doing and many Christian Americans are following, will actually not reclaim America but bring God's judgment.

Ezra Taft Benson: Have we read The Federalist papers? Are we reading the Constitution and pondering it? Are we aware of its principles? Are we abiding by these principles and teaching them to others? Could we defend the Constitution? Can we recognize when a law is constitutionally unsound? Do we know what the prophets have said about the Constitution and the threats to it?

Brannon Howse: I am all for returning to the original intent of America's Founding Fathers but the cross is higher than the flag and the Word of God is above the Constitution. If we really want to defend a Constitutional Republic we must get back to the Word of God; not the Mormon Bible and Mormon teachings on end-time beliefs and building God's Kingdom on earth or the New Jerusalem in Independence, Missouri as they believe.

Ezra Taft Benson: We are fast approaching that moment prophesied by Joseph Smith when he said: "Even this nation will be on the very verge of crumbling to pieces and tumbling to the ground, and when the Constitution is upon the brink of ruin, this people will be the staff upon which the nation shall lean, and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction" (19 July 1840, as recorded by Martha Jane Knowlton Coray; ms. in Church Historian's Office, Salt Lake City).

Brannon Howse: The Mormon Church, in recent years, has found itself in another public relations problem so Ed Decker says they have backed away from this belief. However, all Mormons know of this prophecy by Joseph Smith and believe the Mormon Church and its "enlightened members of this Church" will restore America's honor. Sound familiar? Is this the goal of Glenn Beck's restoring America's Honor rally? Is Glenn Beck part of this Mormon movement that will restore America and usher in the "Kingdom of God" on earth?  What does Glenn Beck mean by God? Does Glenn reject the Mormon god that was a man of flesh and bone that evolved to be the God of this universe by living a good Mormon life? Does Glenn believe he can become a god with many goddess wives that will populate their own planet? Does Glenn believe that Jesus is the brother of Satan that was voted by a council to come to earth? By his own admission he has said that 80% of his life revolves around the Mormon Temple. Glenn owes it to all of us that have watched him to answer these questions particularly since Glenn has challenged the president to be public about his beliefs.

Ezra Taft Benson: Only in this foreordained land, under its God-inspired Constitution and the resulting environment of freedom, was it possible to have established the restored church. It is our responsibility to see that this freedom is perpetuated so that the Church may more easily flourish in the future. The Lord said, "Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land" (D&C 98:6).

Brannon Howse: So in the end, the big push for returning to the founding principles is for the goal of the flourishing of the Mormon Church? How many people are aware of this ultimate goal? How many Americans want to live in a Mormon theocracy? Before you say they are not for a theocracy you had better read the "Law of Consecration" that Mormons swear to in the LDS temple ritual. Among other things, the officiator requests they swear to "consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you , to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion."

Ezra Taft Benson: Our Father in Heaven planned the coming forth of the Founding Fathers and their form of government as the necessary great prologue leading to the restoration of the gospel. Recall what our Savior Jesus Christ said nearly two thousand years ago when He visited this promised land: "For it is wisdom in the Father that they should be established in this land, and be set up as a free people by the power of the Father, that these things might come forth" (3 Ne. 21:4). America, the land of liberty, was to be the Lord's latter-day base of operations for His restored church.

Brannon Howse: So the god of the Mormons, who was once a man of flesh and bone, planned America so the gospel of the Mormon Church could be restored? When did Jesus visit the promise land, which they call America? You will only find that in the Mormon Bible. Notice Taft is quoting from the Mormon Bible where they say that Jesus declared that America would become the "Lord's latter-day base of operations for His restored church."

If Glenn Beck's event on 8/27 and 8/28 are not political events but spiritual events don't you think people should be aware of the spiritual and political agenda of the Mormon Church that Glenn has said 80% of his life revolves around?

If Glenn said come to these two events to learn more about the Constitution of the United States which is equal to the inspired Word of God; how many Christians would still attend? Sadly, I believe most American Christians have the knowledge and Biblical discernment of a gnat and even if Glenn publically equated the Constitution as "akin to the revelations of God…" as did Ezra Taft Benson that they would still be at his beck and call because they are so hungry for a conservative leader and so eager to reclaim the founder's original intent. I believe many self-professing Christians will betray God's ordained Word which will surely guarantee that we do not reclaim America but that our destiny will be divine judgment.  It appears to me that "Glenn Beck's Devine Destiny" is nothing more than a "divine" deception.

Your humor is appreciated, but the sad part is, that’s how radical Islam actually can take over, we waste our time thinking about these little groups such as the Mormon Church while radical Islam can play its cards and really strike hard. Sad but true

One of the noteworthy examples of the Latter-day Saint commitment to treasure up true principles and cultivate affirmative gratitude is the admiration that Church leaders have expressed over the years for the spiritual contributions of Muhammad.

Muslims and Latter-day Saints

""Based upon ancient and modern revelation, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gladly teaches and declares the Christian doctrine that all men and women are brothers and sisters, not only by blood relationship from common mortal progenitors but also as literal spirit children of an Eternal Father. The great religious leaders of the world such as Muhammad, Confucius, and the Reformers ... received a portion of God's light. Moral truths were given to them by God to enlighten whole nations and to bring a higher level of understanding to individuals ... Consistent with these truths, we believe that God has given and will give to all peoples sufficient knowledge to help them on their way to eternal salvation, either in this life or in the life to come ... Our message therefore is one of special love and concern for the eternal welfare of all men and women, regardless of religious belief, race, or nationality, knowing that we are truly brothers and sisters because we are sons and daughters of the same Eternal Father."[

“So do you avoid praying with anyone else? After all, some of those professing to be Christians could have a less than 100% accurate view of Christ. What about Catholics? Do you refuse to pray with them?”

So true. Many Christians (especially where I go to Church) believe in pre trib rapture. I believe that’s unbiblical; there are no scriptures that support it. But I don’t shun them or think they’re evil.

Glenn is working hard to save America. Isn’t that what most (all?) of us at FR are after?

I believe he is as well... but he has to be careful and so do we... that his LDS beliefs do not carry over into his presentations...he is riding a fine line as generally the LDS leadership knows a good thing when they see it and will use it to advance their political agenda...which they definately have one. So caution is the word in my opinion, when it comes to Beck at this juncture...time will surely tell. But I would like to think if the LDS leadership pushes him he will push back and maintain his course....it's a hairy line right now.

Your statement had nothing to do with religious freedom...it has to do with what you perceive is possible within all faiths, I disputed that and it is to that which I addressed.

Religious Freedom was the essence of my post... You seem to disagree with "possible". it is always a pleasure to debate those with limitations.... After all, a man must know his limitations.

In my world much is possible, to what degree is the issue.

Ed Decker wrote "The Godmakers" and it concludes that indeed a Mormon will be elected President and place us all in a Mormon dictatorship. I actually swallowed this at one time. While I reject all LDS teaching that differs from traditional Christianity, the idea that the LDS Church is going to take over the country is about the most absurd thing I have ever heard. The LDS Church is SHRINKING in the US. It has LESS influence with each passing year. Good grief, SALT LAKE CITY itself is less than 50% LDS. They are a sliver of a sliver of the population as a whole. Please tell me who would be their allies in a takeover of the government! Liberals? Nope! Christians? Nope!

ISLAM is the religion you need to focus on. People are being beheaded in the name of ISLAM.

One more note on Ed Decker. The Tanners in SLC are THE best source of information on LDS teachings and history. They don't get carried away with fantasies like Decker has. They stick with documented facts, which is why they are so devastating in their arguments. Decker has made too many outlandish slanders against the Tanners to mention, including accusing the Tanners of being demon-possessed agents of the LDS Church.

Put down the Ed Decker "I see a devil behind every rock" material and go get some fresh air. You REALLY need it.

What about Catholics? Do you refuse to pray with them?

Catholics have the ONLY 100% accurate view of Christ

Glenn Beck is about the only prominent newscaster who is trying to get the truth out there about the corrupt Obama White House. In addition, he is trying to call the different denominations together to stop the infighting and start getting back to the aforementioned Judeo/Christian roots that made this country great.

I agree in part. However, Beck is first and foremost a mormon, and mormons are called upon to spread their "gospel" by whatever means.

Praying with someone in legal i.e. spiritual agreement about something cannot be done between unequally yoked persons.

Why are you dancing around my question? Would you pray with a Catholic? Do you grill someone on their exact doctrinal belief of Christ before you pray with them? Heck, I'll pray with an athiest if they are in my home for dinner. Should I have not done that?

Praying for Mormons is a different matter altogether, but I don't see Paul or Peter or Jesus doing much praying with or for false teachers in the Bible, so I don't know what precedent there is for it. Do you?

Jesus and his disciples prayed with/for all sorts of people. Did Jesus grill people on their religious doctrine before he forgave their sins and healed them? Did Jesus grill the thousands before him when prayed by giving thanks for the food that they were about to receive?

And what did Jesus say to his disciples when they wanted to go rebuke some others that were going around preaching, healing, etc?

This time try to answer the questions.

Dear Brother,

We ALL understand and read the WORD. We know the line up of apostates, they are legion. Unless we abandon every denominational division among 2500 Christian-like flavors, only our particular flavor's acceptable.

Many of my friends say Catholic's are apostates. Others claim calvanists are lost TULIPS. Ibid, the wacky 7th Day Adventist's. I've got news for YOU, without Jesus we are all lost!

Are you really ready to proclaim the unworthiness of everyone you deem apostate? Apparently, you're now the Great Judge who decides (before our creator God, King Jesus), who will inherit HIS Kingdom.

HE'S not willing that anyone be lost. Why are you caww? Say, who do all of the saint's belong to anyway? The Kiwannas, the KC? I have to tell you 'it's way above my pay grade' to quote the Antichrist. What we share together (in Jesus Christ) is greater than what tries to split us apart. Gird up your loins for battle, Hussein's the final enemy Brother!

I'm truly sorry that the mormon church hurt you! I pray you might someday forgive everyone including 'the specific mormon sinners' that hurt you. Not for their sakes mind you caww, but for your own! Me, I'm just a sinner saved by the grace of God. Look to yourself and your house.

Tearing down Glenn Beck today's like tearing down these United State's. Divide and conquer! Me first! We will surely hang together, if we don't hang alone! Until I hear from the King Himself, I'll let God be God and I'll let any of HIS many types of servants live in peace.

In the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, Jesus decides who's lost and who's found. I pray you find peace.

Agape, Michael

Could you explain how there is really any significance to this religious movement at all? I fail to see any threat in what they believe.

And here's proof that Mormonism's PR campaign is working.

Jesus did not pray for or with False Teachers or False Prophets. All He did, over and over again, was WARN US about false teachers and false prophets in the End Times when He also told us to beware the Great Apostasy that would come over the Church... i.e. the Strong Delusion of Isaiah and Thessolonians.

I was born again at a born again Catholic Church and the basics of Catholicism do not infringe on Christian theology regarding salvation as Mormonism does. I’m not into Popery of course, but only an idiot Catholic would actually believe that a mere mortal man is the intercessor for mankind on earth, especially since that Meditator already came died and was resurrected.

Comparing Mormons to Catholics isn’t the right analogy anyway. The proper analogy is Mormons to Islam... same fake lotta sex after death with wives or virgins... same fake mishmosh of Old and New Covenant ideas... same squatting on Judeo Christian ideas and geography... same violence built into its foundational beliefs. Bleech.

Thank you, do they believe that only 250,000 go to heaven? Only the deacons of the Church? Pray for America

AH no. Besides there are thousands of deacons.

Pray for those who judge out of ignorance/prejudice.

'Frankly there is room for peace, love, and understanding in all faiths.' We are all witness to all the peace, love and understanding within the muslim faith; shia, sunni baihia, kurd etc, killing more of each other than any Jew ever dreamed of doing.

You are deliberately being wrong here, upon that last point. You are lying, because you follow 'the father of lies' the devil. The koran reads like the sick twisted biography of a pedophile serial killer. Merely, a 'divine' license to commit any crime.

Outside of the children of 'the promise' there is no salvation, or anything else holy. The promise went to Jacob, not to ismael. Messaih Jesus came from this royal linage. Islamic faith is of the devil. The profit admits demon possesion by a ginn.

'Those that pervert Islam are as guilty as those that pervert any other faith.'

How can what's already perverted be perverted anymore?

Unlike the real faith descended from the Jewish patriarchs Abraham, Issac and Jacob their is no salvation, blessing or reward.

Why do the heathen rage? Because they know their time's short.

As the adventist preacher on the AMAZING FACTS tv show said, “You are saved by grace IF you keep the sabbath.”

So where is Jesus?

Tearing down Glenn Beck today's like tearing down these United State's.

Unfortunately, way too many people, FReepers included, have given Beck the status of an institution like the US..and some seem to have made him their personal Messiah.

This sounds very much like the prattling that comes from the Obamaniacs!

Beck is a fallible man, and alcoholic at that, and is no more a sage or a prophet than was Joseph Smith. One has to wonder what will he find to do to top this?

Glenn's "party" is over now. Let's buckle down and do the work that needs to be done and let the 52,000 mormon missionaries fan out and spread their message to gull Christians. It's their full time job for two years.

Glenn Beck is a paid entertainer, not the voice of conservatism. Don't forget that this movement began with the Tea Parties...those of us who, with Jim Robinson at the forefront have been spreading the message. When was the last thread about the tea party movement posted at FR? These are the folks that are in the trenches, that are out there on the border in AZ, that are working on getting conservatives registered and elected to the city and county and state positions.

Who do you think will have the lasting effect on the direction of the country? The Jim Robinsons or Glenn Beck?

God warned me specifically through a series of pointed dreams in early 2008, that I was not to pray with Mormons

Hate to break it to you but God would not have told you that. If God said anything on the matter it would have been to minister to them so that they might find God and Jesus Christ ... If you believe that the God the LDS worship is not the God you worship.

I've seen a lot of back handed slights at Mormons here at FR but I can honestly say that yours is probably the most offensive I have seen and makes it worse that you claim it was from God.
