Anne Rice Breaks Up With Christianity via Facebook...
Beliefnet ^ | July 28th, 2010

Posted on 07/29/2010 1:53:32 PM PDT by TaraP

Well, some stars like Amanda Bynes use technology like Twitter to tell the world they are retiring. Some stars like Kelsey Grammar announce the end of his marriage. But today Anne Rice became the first pop culture figure I know that decided to break up with Christians, and she did it using facebook.

On her official website she posted the following announcement via her facebook feed this afternoon:"I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life.

In the name of ...Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian Amen.

She wrote some trite crap about vampires- the Leftists think she is brilliant, but her stuff comes off as droll. I was actually suckered into reading some of it- complete waste of time.

At further reflection, I distinctly detect Beck Derangement Syndrome. And to reject Christ because Constitutionalists correctly originate those laws from the Source? That makes Anne as paltry a believer as a sinner, at best — grist for the secular heathens.

Actually, by her stating, “In the name of Christ, . . .” she does seem to imply that she believes in Christ. Otherwise, the entire statement is a contradiction.

I’m guessing she was never much of a Christian to begin with.

Yep, I thought that was odd, too.

I guess it’s another “My own personal style of Christianity” type religion she’s looking for.

Before getting too hot under the collar, check out the last couple of books she wrote, very sensitive takes on the early life of Christ as she imagined it.

But particularly check out the "afterword" in this book "Christ the Lord" next time you're in a bookstore. She goes into great detail about how the PhDs in religion she consulted at all the fanciest universities showed poor faith themselves and outright apostasy and contempt for orthodoxy.

http://www.annerice.com/ChristTheLord-OutOfEgypt-NotesAnne.html

Unfortunately, the afterword is not at this site, but I recommend it to every Christian. It's better than the novel itself.

She may not be able to find a home in the orthodox churches of her first choice, because they're, well, orthodox.

She probably would be happier with some watered-down, politically liberal Episcopalians who ordain practicing lesbians.

But she won't be as happy with their doctrine. Once you start compromising, you don't stop.

Who (or what) is Anne Rice?

Most famous for popular vampire novels. Lately for novels about Jesus.

And why should I give a rat’s rear end what she does or doesn’t believe??

Celebrity revert from worldly paganism to Roman Catholicism.

In the sacrifice of Christ on The Cross, YHVH wasn’t about opening a spiritual Burger King so you could “Have It Your Way.”

Since Ms. Rice has decided to be “out” because to stay “in” would require that she give up all of those things, then she was never really “in” to begin with.

In paving a way for sinful man to enjoy personal relationship with Him, God did not subjugate His holiness to our spiritual frailties. Salvation is not an agreement by The Eternal God to “live down to” our level; it is His gracious grant of a means for us to realize what St. Paul refers to as “the upward call”; to “be holy, even as I AM holy.” The power of salvation in enabling relationship with God is not that it enables Holy God to relate to sinful us; it is that it frees us from those sins enabling a now-holy us to relate to a forever-holy God.

Put another way: the call of God to “be holy, even as I AM holy” is not an onerous mandate imposed upon us to make Christianity that much more of a cross to bear; it is God’s spiritual invitation to “Live holy! You’ll LOVE it!”

Obviously, Ms. Rice NEVER quite caught that, nor did she ever grasp what St. Paul expressed when he wrote, “You are not your own, you were bought at a price...” So, she has chosen her “filthy rags” over His eternal glory.

More’s the pity.

"Just another useful idiot for Hillary, this time weaving a calculated middle-of-the-road, centrist-leaning religious progressive businesswoman meme to subtly undermine confidence in Democrat sub-group affiliation to protect against any Christian association that might undermine collectivist loyalty. You know, smartest-woman-in-the-world stuff. Elite programming adjustments are not for the little people to worry about. Move along, nothing to see here.

Exactly. The same boring crap Fonda mewed about last year.

Their imprudent exhibitionism (Rice by screed, Fonda by deed) and their pathetic -- no, sheer pathos -- need to be loved were no match for real, humble, observant Christianity.

Scared, plain and simple, to be loved -- and thus outshone -- by One greater.

I’ve never been a fan of her writing—tried two of her books and bailed on both—but for some reason I occassionally find her interesting as an example of a person who lives in/on media attention.

This situation doesn’t surprise me. She made a big noise years ago protesting the choice of Tom Cruise to act in Interview with the Vampire, and then she changed her mind and praised him.

She lost her child to illness years ago, and that contributed to her loss of faith. Then she came back, and now here she is going back on a public pronouncement, again.

I think she’s a very confused person who’s suffered a tragedy no one would want to endure. I feel sorry for her.

As an atheist, I don’t care one way or another about her beliefs, but it’s odd how she stated this leaving Christianity—the positions she cites as being ones she can’t support aren’t brand-new or unknown.

Most seminaries don’t gives a rat’s rear end about orthodoxy and spend the first year of M.Div. and M.Th. studies forcing the orthdoxy out of their students. Worse, you can’t get a PhD in Religion by being orthodox. You have to discover something NEW, and preferably pro-homosexual, to be granted that degree.
