Jesus Nailed
Youtube ^ | July 5, 2010 | Chatter4

Great video by an independent theist, who has researched Christianity for many years. From the video desciption: "Christians insist that Jesus was nailed to a cross and that after his resurrection, that he showed his disciples the wounds on his hands and his feet. There is not one verse in the Bible that says Jesus was nailed to a cross or that says he showed his wounded hands and feet to anyone. The Bible does say that he was hung on a tree or from a timber.

These four verses claim that the two thieves received the same punishment that Jesus did. They all say the thieves were crucified.

Matthew 27:38 "Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left." Mark 15:27 "And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left." Luke 23:33 "And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left." John 19:18 "Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst." However, this verse says they were hung, so clearly, to be crucified means to be hung. Luke 23:39 "And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us."

This is not the same word which was used to describe Judas being hung. That word clearly meant to be choked or strangled, but, crucifixtion certainly must mean to be suspended from something, and the method used to suspend one from a timber or a tree may have varied."

I am beginning to wonder what your point is? The bottom line is that Jesus died on the cross and thus took our sins away. By acknowledging this truth, that I am a sinner in need of saving, my sins are now gone and my relationship with God is now restored. And I can now go to heaven when I die.

Why are we arguing about this? Whether Jesus was "nailed" to the cross or "hung" on a cross, he was still crucified and died for my sins; and yours as well.

Can we stick to the basics and agree that Jesus did truly die on the cross for our sins.

Do you believe that is true?

Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
Acts 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
1Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,

I explained in an ealier post that there were no wounds mentioned in the passage you are quoting [John 20:25-27]. The Greek word for “Thrust” is “Ballo”, and it means to strike with force. Again what sane person would want to forcefully strike their master’s wound or scar?

I'd like to see you demonstrate some competency with the Greek text, before I start trusting you with an English translation.

CDL, would you like to get in on this action?

"If you would take the time to re-read the article and then read your Bible, you will find that you are in error."

So...Christ asked Thomas to probe his rope burns? Is that what you're sayin'?

What great theological point are we supposed to derive if we decide that Jesus was not nailed? Is this just a ‘ha, ha, I know something you don’t know’? Or is there something of profound spiritual meaning that people have been missing for nearly 2000 years?

>>“Again you are assuming ancient writers could not or did not use analogies and allegories.”

>If I say the Gospels are allegoies, I will be labeled a liar. How is it that those that claim Jesus was nailed to a cross are not treated in the same manner?

There’s a huge difference between saying that the gospels *contain* allegories and they *are* allegories. I plainly said the former, where you take that to mean the latter. Here’s one allegory [of many] that Jesus used:
Matthew 13:31 — Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:”

“I am beginning to wonder what your point is? The bottom line is that Jesus died on the cross”

My point is that so many insist that the Bible is literally true, and that no one should add to or take away from the written word, yet, there is not one verse in the Bible that tells us Jesus was nailed to a cross, yet that is exactly what every Christian teaches and demands that it be believed.

Do you believe that Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross for your sins?

“Looks like I wasn’t that far off the mark.”

If you teach others that Jesus was nailed to a cross, you are way off the mark.
Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
Acts 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

Let's just get this all out in the open now, shall we? More of chatter4 on YouTube:
Christianity is a Fraud
Justin Martyr-Jesus is a Myth
Irenaeus-Jesus died an old man
The false Christian Gospel
Did Jesus ever exist?
Jesus is NOT the Christ
Jesus is the Antichrist

I guess they punched nail holes in his hands and feet and then hung him from a tree. Right? Or, could they have actually nailed him to a wooden structure made from a tree in which he would be “hung” there. Your points are so ridiculously juvenile.

Envision the poetry of a carpenter having nails turned against him to suffer- thus creating the exact opposite feeling once in heaven.

” Your points are so ridiculously juvenile.”

No, I demonstrated in the span of little more than an hour, that Christians are hypocrates, that judge others based on their own beliefs-and their beliefs have very little to do with the written word. The Bible says nothing about Jesus being nailed to anything, yet they insist that I am wrong to say so.

Well, we have our share of Christians on this forum, I guess we were bound to have one or two playing for the other side Alex.

Let me give you a very, very brief overview.

Christ was crucified under Roman law, not Jewish law.

Not all who were crucified were nailed (nails were rather expensive). Many were tied with rope to crosses.

The worst ..or most visible/high profile.. ‘offenders’ were usually crucified by being nailed to the cross vs. tied.

You didn’t get any more high-profile than Jesus.

There’s far, far more than that......but for starters......

Yes Alex, i would like to do so.

The real question is what qualifications does the writer of this drivel have to presume to exegete the Greek Text, and what is the source of his or her statement.

i am not able to view YouTube videos from this computer, so please encourage the poster to cite his or her source(s) for this assertion.

They believe He was nailed through the wrists to an upright pole with no crossbeam.
