If I described to you a hit television show with deep Christian underpinnings and hidden meanings about a bunch of people being stranded on a strange island which had some audience speculating that the characters were in "Hell," what show would you say we were discussing?
Gilligan's Island, of course.
Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of Gilligan's Island, said he patterned the seven stranded castaways after the seven deadly sins but he didn't admit it until years later in his book about the show.
I'm sure you can attribute the sins to the proper characters but here they are:
The Professor Pride
Thurston Howell III - Greed
Ginger - Lust
Mary Ann - Envy (of Ginger's looks)
Mrs. Lovey Howell - Gluttony
The Skipper - Anger or wrath
Gilligan Sloth
Take that LOST!
Some have even speculated that the castaways were in Hell and Gilligan (who always wore red!!!!!) did everything he could to ensure they stayed there making Gilligan "Satan."
And you thought it was just a silly show!
“Mike Brady Pride
Greg Brady - Greed (dreams of Johnny Bravo)
Marcia - Lust
Jan - Envy (of Marcia)
Alice the cook - Gluttony
Sam the Butcher - Anger (hes a butcher, after all)
Carol Brady (What does she do all day?)”
Mr. Brady? Buggery? Is that one of the 7?
Hamlet. Spoken by Polonius to his son Laertes. Incidentally, the music used in that episode came from the opera Carmen.
Stares at the camera, something no star is supposed to do but they let her get away with it.

"A lot of people have written to me saying they understand that's the seven deadly sins. That was never in my mind, but they've explained it to me..."
Full Metal Alchemist has antagonists based off and named after the seven deadly sins, the big bag guy is the Fureher of the country of Amestris and his name is Pride. There is also Glottony, Sloth, Lust, Greed, Wrath, and Envy.
Pretty interesting series about the consequences of trying to play god, the protagonist loses his bother’s body and literally an arm and a leg trying to bring their dead mother back to life using forbidden alchemy. After paying the price for his mistake he spends the rest of the series trying to get his and his brother’s body back and fighting the Homoculi named after the seven deadly sins.

Hey, I first learned some Shakespeare (the lyrics) and opera (the Toreador’s Song music) from Gilligan’s Island, and producer Harold Hecuba:
“There’s just one other thing, you ought to do, to thine own self be truuuuuue!
I also learned about opera from Bugs Bunny:
“Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!”
I loved that show. My favorite episode was the one where Professor thought that he found a way off the island, and then Gilligan messed it up...
Phil Silvers?
None other.
You sir are a gentleman and a procurer!
Do you remember that one episode of Three's Company where Janet overheard Jack and Chrissy and totally jumped to the wrong conclusion?
That was a hoot!
I thought I saw them all...but I don't remember that one. Strange...
One of the greats. Been listening/reading him since I first heard of him in ‘69.
LOL!
You can also sing everything Emily Dickinson ever wrote to the tune of the Gilligan’s Island theme. Drove my English teacher nuts....
Yes. I have sung it to my children. Amazingly, I am still alive.
It's "to The Yellow Rose of Texas"!
