I later found out that this guest priest had his own parish, and many people quit the parish, and joined another one, because of his liberal ideas. I can see why. I can accept liberal ideas that differ from mine, but not when it comes to religion.

My husband is going to call the Bishop's office to report it.

I think you are duty bound to take this to the local Bishop and then take it to the USCCB. This is a serious violation of Canon Law and the Magisterium of the Church. Unless, we the Church take matters seriously, these errant priests will continue to weaken the Church. Please provide telephone numbers and other contact info.

The Bishop's office? Forget that. Call the Heretic Hotline at the Vatican.
Phone number: Et Cum Spirit 2-2-0

I would be surprised, if others there didn’t, also, report it.

The Gospels were written down in Greek, which is an inflected language, so check out the gender of the pronouns in the original and translate accordingly.

That said, it sounds like the substitute priest is one of those light in his loafers heretics. Keep him away from the altar boys, IMHO.

I would have flipped out.

What father, little boys not good enough for you, you want little girls?

Then I would have kicked out the door.

I am like that, usually though, everyone holds me back and I end up getting ejected.

He knows damn well why we don’t have female priests. There has always been segregation of the sexes in the church.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

MY parish priest was transferred to another parish. He now is convener's for three parishes in Bellmayr.

I miss him so much.

Our new priest started Ascension Sunday by telling us about a song in the movie Gigi.

He does not incense the altar prior to mass, and does not bring in the Gospel when he enters the Church.

I still attend Sunday Mass at my old parish, but also take the trip up to Bellmayr to feed my faith.

Don’t be harkening to Scriptures to “prove” anything to the Roman Catholic Church. The hieracry holds the self-proclaimed authors of all Scripture, the compilers of the entire Bible, the issuers of the text, the guardians of the truth and they can overturn, rewrite, interpret all texts as suits them. After all...the keys have been given to them alone.

Next year comes the little girls to the altars (they’ve already had the little boys) and soon the tunnels between the monastery and the convents will be busy with training sessions.

Call the Bishop’s Office immediately; this priest should be disciplined promptly.

I wonder what the original language means in this verse? I believe "he" is something like ekeinos. Just curious. I wonder if someone has a Strongs lying around somewhere to see what the original usage was (he, she, generic, etc?)

Sun, when I attended an outdoor wedding in the Rocky Mountains a few years ago, a hippy-looking guest priest did a reading of a silly old poem “Desiderata”. Towards the end, he said “Be true to your god, whatever you perceive him OR HER to be”.

Suddenly the sky was split with the BIGGEST LIGHTENING BOLT and THUNDER CLAP I have ever seen or heard.

Everybody sat in stunned silence for a few seconds, and then the wedding proceeded.

I really WISH the LORD would do that sort of thing more often. :-)

I’m assuming you’ll also make your own priest and the parish office aware of your displeasure.

Let us know how he makes out with the Bishop, if you find out. I'd be interested to know if it's just a complaint that will go ignored or if there will be some action.

Maybe you should have your husband ask the Bishop for an apology letter from the priest, then you'll know if it goes anywhere. Of course the letter, if you get one, won't really be an apology, but at least you'll know he heard from his boss.

I am not Catholic. I can tell you I believe the priest who substituted this morning is an idiot.
Do what you need to do to get this man out of ever preaching again. Where did he get his training from a cracker jack box?

My thoughts:

1. You are absolutely justified in being upset. The priest is a steward of God’s truth, and the Mass is not his to toy with. The Mass is an act of public worship and no one should ever have to suffer having to wonder at every moment what sort of political shenanigans might happen at Mass. That priest is an utter disappointment and should be corrected in the most serious manner.

2. Please keep in mind that this is the actual teaching of the Church: God chose to reveal Himself as Father and Son using male terminology. God also refers to the Holy Spirit using male terms. Nevertheless, God is a mystery and despite this self-revelation of His male-ness, God is a mystery Who cannot be confined to such human adjectives and qualities. God is ultimately beyond our comprehension. God also describes feminine qualities of the Father and of the Holy Spirit. God also revealed that women are also made in God’s own image. But God never refers to Himself as a Mother or as a Daughter. While God’s perfection is beyond gender and encompasses both the masculine and feminine, He became Incarnate as a man, not as a woman. And that man referred to His Father in heaven, and to a male Paraclete helper (the Holy Spirit). The Church has adopted God’s own example in using male terminology when speaking of God and the three Divine Persons who are present in Him.
