When my husband and I went to Mass last evening, unfortunately our parish priest was ill, so a guest priest said Mass.
When he read the Gospel, he changed He to she. Later the substitute priest said we really don't know if the Holy Spirit is a he or a she.
Later he said, wouldn't the altar girl make a good priest some day, even though the Vatican said women priests is a closed issue. It won't happen.
There were a few other things, but those were the things that bothered me the most.
Here is the gospel, where he changed He to she:
"Jesus said to his disciples: "I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you."
My husband is going to call the Bishop's office to report it.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
I think you are duty bound to take this to the local Bishop and then take it to the USCCB. This is a serious violation of Canon Law and the Magisterium of the Church. Unless, we the Church take matters seriously, these errant priests will continue to weaken the Church. Please provide telephone numbers and other contact info.
“My husband is going to call the Bishop’s office to report it. “
He should!
Please keep us informed as to the outcome of your complaint.
I would be surprised, if others there didn’t, also, report it.
Thanks for the good advise.
Maybe I’ll even contact EWTN’s Raymond Arroryo. He runs EWTN, I believe, and is one of Mother Angelica’s best friends, as well as a friend to bishops and priests, but is not afraid to criticize them when they are wrong.
The Gospels were written down in Greek, which is an inflected language, so check out the gender of the pronouns in the original and translate accordingly.
That said, it sounds like the substitute priest is one of those light in his loafers heretics. Keep him away from the altar boys, IMHO.
Do I go through the Operator, or just dial 2-2-0?
I would have flipped out.
What father, little boys not good enough for you, you want little girls?
Then I would have kicked out the door.
I am like that, usually though, everyone holds me back and I end up getting ejected.
He knows damn well why we don’t have female priests. There has always been segregation of the sexes in the church.
MY parish priest was transferred to another parish. He now is convener's for three parishes in Bellmayr.
I miss him so much.
Our new priest started Ascension Sunday by telling us about a song in the movie Gigi.
He does not incense the altar prior to mass, and does not bring in the Gospel when he enters the Church.
I still attend Sunday Mass at my old parish, but also take the trip up to Bellmayr to feed my faith.
It’s a direct line. Just ask for Ben.
I would know, I think, if he did anything wrong that way, because a friend of mine belonged to his parish.
There are many other ways to offend God, though.
Don’t be harkening to Scriptures to “prove” anything to the Roman Catholic Church. The hieracry holds the self-proclaimed authors of all Scripture, the compilers of the entire Bible, the issuers of the text, the guardians of the truth and they can overturn, rewrite, interpret all texts as suits them. After all...the keys have been given to them alone.
Next year comes the little girls to the altars (they’ve already had the little boys) and soon the tunnels between the monastery and the convents will be busy with training sessions.
Also, only created beings have sex. God and the Holy Spirit have no sex, they are spirits, not flesh. God was incarnated as a man in Jesus Christ for certain reasons, and it’s also natural to refer to God as He since fatherhood is a better metaphor for God’s relation to us than motherhood. But that does not mean that God is a man any more than He’s a woman. Those are limited categories. God, by definition, transcends all limits.
He is old enough to be a retired priest, thankfully.
what a joke....I woulda walked out
i’m not Catholic
and I have walked out of a Prod service when a freak was preaching
Call the Bishop’s Office immediately; this priest should be disciplined promptly.
