Im holding in my hand my black hardcover copy of Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, one of Mormonisms most influential books, an all-time Mormon bestseller, which went out of print this week.
A book written, Im sure, with the best of intentions by a revered Mormon leader. And, still, a book that continued to circulate even after other high-ranking Mormon leaders recommended more than one thousand corrections to its content.
A book that called Roman Catholicism the Church of the Devil. And a book that elevated to doctrinal status non-doctrinal folklore about the origins of the LDS Churchs ban on conveying priesthood authority to members of African descent, claiming that blacks were the descendents of the accursed Cain.
A book that due to its authoritative presentation and doctrinal fundamentalism gave many Mormons reasons for grief.
Mormon Doctrine (1958 2010), RIP.
"That is probably intentional." That is one of the most offensive comments I've seen from a mormon to date and you try to escape criticism and the RM's rules against mindreading by using the word "probably". PROVE THE ASSERTION!
Do us all a favor and show where the "LIES" and "DECEIT" are in these posts and threads and post the rebuttal information.
You've been challenged on this time and time again. Yet, each time, you neglect to do so.
Why is that? Is it easier to attack the messengers as opposed to the message? Is it easier to hide behind the anonymity of your firewall and screenname?
I've come clean, why don't you?
As for your claims that there is a "vast amount of misrepresentation, twisting and lies spewed forth..." on these boards, prove it. Calling people liars is quite easy, proving it is another.
For the lurkers, by all means, "DO read this stuff" (mormonism) and then sit with your pastor, preacher, etc. and discuss what you have read with them and have them show you the "Truth". I, and a few others on this board have escaped mormonism. If you can find where we have been "misrepresenting", "twisting" or "lying" our experiences, just ask one of us and we'll gladly answer your questions.
The only sources that may be posted are Biblical references and as we know by their (lds) articles of faith #8, the Bible is only as correct as it is translated.
Which is strange in it self to use a source you don’t believe to be correct.
Have you ever seen an lds post a source for anything that they say is a lie?
I haven’t.
Your church’s founder and subsequent prophets and apostles have already thrown down the gauntlet.
If you don’t like it being given back in the truest meaning and context, take it up with SLC.
Neither have I, yet I won’t allow the accusations to go unchallenged either, as many here won’t as well.
Resty, you keep quoting about how the path is narrow.
Seems to me that Mormonhood is a VERY wide path. Almost everybody goes to some level of heaven, even if they never heard of Mormons. Even if they reject any version of Jesus. Even athiests and wiccans and Muslims and [gasp] mainstreamers. Even we “ANTIs” will go to Mormon heaven.
It’s a very, very wide path, seems to me.
RESTY! READ THE “PAMPLET”!
Count me as another proud member of a church that Joey Smith would declare “apostate”. In fact two of them at the moment, as we are transitioning to a new church but remain connected to the old.
Are you saying here that all paths lead to heaven?
999 is no newb. It has a history of disrupting these threads.
Well, almost everyone gets to go to one of the 3 mormon heavens.
Us anti’s who are considered apostates by SLC get to go to “outer darkness” because we left and subsequently spoke out against the LdS church and its teachings.
I have refrained until now...but who gives a $hit about Mormon doctrine? If it does not agree with the teachings of Jesus Christ, Son of God, Equal with God, (not Lucifer’s brother) it is false and evil teaching. No one can be baptised into salvation, into grace, after they are dead. Flame away, I know I am correct. And Joseph Smith is a nobody...
I may have to google that!
AMEN Elsie!
Why should I "flame away" when I agree??...well, I agree with the exceptance of using a substitution word for potty language.
But, the reason why it's still worth the post is becomes there's 13-14 million people in this country who do care...and they are sending almost 52,000 missionaries out around the world to try to grow that number.
And people who aren't very spiritually wary -- who are spiritually vulnerable -- need to become aware that they are proselytyzing fodder.
Jesus said of the legalists of their day, that they would traverse the earth to make a convert of theirs "twice the son of hell." Religious legalism is often quite zealous.
It would be a detriment to our neighbors, near and afar, to not warn them of the spiritual perils of religious legalism.
Mormonism does seem to say so. Even the heavenly trailer park known as the "Telestial Kingdom" is so wonderful, one of the LDS prophets (E. Smith) claimed that one would commit suicide to go there if we got so much as a glimpse. and all but satan and his followers, and Mormon leaders who come to reject Mormonism go to some level, is my understanding.
I was going by sign up date.
But you may be right that it’s no newb anyway.
Mormonic Verses Placemarker
Yeah...
THAT worked out well!
So the whole show was about OPRAH, and how ALL paths lead to Heaven.
BLASPHEMY - just like MORMONism.
