They’d bring alot more home if we can get rid of some of these liberal American bishops.

This is such a beautiful website; I use it while trying to explain to my non-Catholic friends and family what has been going on with me as I have become a Catholic.

What a blessing for this man, to be able to use his talents to so dramatically serve the Lord and His Church! And what a blessing for all of us to see this. How kind the Holy Spirit is.

One of the many answers to this question is because of the Pope of Rome.

For all the truth that resides within the protestant church, there is no ever-present spokesman for the Bride of Christ than the Pope of Rome. Many a Chistian leader has been heard to thank God for the Pope of Rome's outspoken stand on “moral issues” in this lost world. The Pope stands in visible, outspoken, worldwide defense of whole of Christian faith.

IMO, the biggest reason for "coming home" is not Catholicism per se, but rather the stability that an institutional, liturgical church offers.

I was talking to a friend the other day. She comes from a "Bible church" background, and she's very dissatisfied with the atmosphere of her large, non-denominational church. Its approach seems rather ad hoc to her, and there's an "entertainment" aspect to the services that has ceased to be attractive to her.

She finds herself drawn to my (Episcopal) parish because of our liturgy and tradition, but moreso because of our attention to the seasons of the church year -- they provide a stability and focus that is quite independent of whatever issues are grabbing the attention of the pastoral team.

The attraction of the Catholic Church is no doubt similar -- and I believe there's also a sort of "ethnicity" to Catholicism that exerts a powerful pull.

Advertising to Get Parishioners,

Sounds like someone imbibed the lyrics from the "play" (barf!) Jesus Christ Superstar:

"If you'd come today you would've reached a whole nation. Israel in 4 B.C. had no mass communication".

I will tell you what isnt bringing this Catholic home. Spent a week at a silent retreat. When leaving one of the nuns was talking about her upcoming celebration in Rome. She was going to Rome to celebrate with her “companion.” When queried further she became coy. Then I looked at her hands. Many orders have the women wearing a plain wedding band on the third finger of their left hands as a indication that they were pledged to Christ. She had the band on the third finger of her right had. Many lesbians do that.

I am done.
