Something Must be Done About Fr. Michael Pfleger in Chicago
What Does the Prayer Really Say ^ | 4/14/10 | Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

Posted on 04/14/2010 9:25:03 AM PDT by marshmallow

Cardinal George has allowed an honor to be bestowed on Fr. Michael Pfleger.

Fr. Pfleger is not "controversial". Fr. Pfleger is an uncontrollable heretic.

In the past I have seen Fr. Pfleger more in terms of a loony punchline rather than a serious problem. I have changed my mind.

Having stupid ideas about politics is one thing, being supremely imprudent is one thing, but attacking the foundation of the priesthood from his highly visible platform is another.

If Card. George will not remove Fr. Pfleger from his mandate as pastor, or remove his faculty to preach and say Mass publicly, the everyone should make an appeal to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to act.

From CMR we see this:

Caught On Video: Pfleger’s Heresy

Just days after Cardinal George awarded him a lifetime achievement award, the Rev. Michael Pfleger has been caught on tape openly dissenting and teaching heresy from the pulpit during mass!

In this stunning video from a Divine Mercy Sunday homily, Fr. Pfleger openly calls for female ordination and female bishops. Pfleger says…

"That’s why there should be woman priests, that’s why there should be married priests, that’s why there should be woman Bishops and women Cardinals"

There is a good poke in the eye for Cardinal George. The Cardinal was already facing criticism for honoring Fr. Pfleger and Pfleger returned the favor by open dissent.

Cardinal George cannot let this stand, especially after just conferring an award. Pfleger must be disciplined and forced to retract his statements or immeasurable harm will be done to the faith. If Pfleger teaching this heresy goes unchallenged by the Cardinal, people will rightly conclude that the Cardinal supports these views, after all he did just give him an award.

Pfire Pfleger, now.

Video: Fr. Pfleger Calls For Women Priests

I have had true respect for Card. George. I am therefore very puzzled by this situation. Fr. Pfleger is causing grave scandal to the faithful. Maintaining him in his position also causes scandal.

Perhaps Cardinal George thinks that removing him would cause more problems than he is presently creating because of his popularity - merited or unmerited – with the black community in Chicago.

To leave him there does more harm.

It is an offense to the black community in Chicago not to give them a better pastor, a man who is faithful to Catholic teaching and not a demagogue.

Please, your Eminence, do something about this fellow who is mocking the priesthood, in the Year of the Priest, and mocking your authority as Archbishop of Chicago.

The Eucharistic Prayer video is a doozy. A free beer to anyone who can watch it to the end. I couldn't.

This guy is a theatrical, self-aggrandizing agnostic. There's a total absence of "verticality" (is that a word?) in everything he does. Nothing sacred......nothing to hint at mysteries of the faith being celebrated. Just posturing and theatrics for the audience.

Instead of focusing on this priest, why not focus on the organization that employs, promotes and praises him?

Just a thought.

A very fair question that.

He is "employed" in the first instance, not by an "organization" but by his bishop, Cardinal George. He is the man to whom he answers and who has the power to discipline him..

The article does exactly what you suggest. It focuses on Cardinal George and laments his inaction.

Back when we lived in a sane society, heretics were burned at the stake pour encourager des autres.

Not that I'd wish any physical harm to Father Pfleger. No, in his case I hope the Holy Spirit will prevail upon his conscience so strongly that the guilt he will feel will seem as if he is being burned alive.

All he needs is to perform in blackface.

The Archdiocese of Chicago ... yes, an organization which, while better than it was under Bernadin, still requires a considerable amount of cleanup.

And, an organization due to acquire new leadership in the next two years, happily.

You know something?

Cardinal George is as corrupt as Pfleger.

There’s no point appealing to George to “do something.” If he were going to do anything, he’d have done it when he arrived in Chicago.

“Instead of focusing on this priest, why not focus on the organization that employs, promotes and praises him? “

A very fair question. I think almost 25% of the Congress is Catholic and over 90% voted for the health care bill. Many of the administration and Senate leaders are Catholic. The Nun representing Catholic hospitals got a signing pen. What does that say? Have the Bishops no Power?

The Bishops had better look at the situation of the Church in Venezuela.

Personally, when I saw that the award was going to be given to this particular priest, whose actions have been widely publicized through videos, I just figured the award was an indication that the Church, in Chicago, is, for whatever reason, more afraid of the supporters of Father Ffeiger than they are concerned for the effect of creating scandal among believers. I have been to mass several times in Hyde Park in Chicago while visiting a relative in the past, and was impressed by the largely empty church, the mostly older Catholics, and the echo. I was glad to be returning to my small but alive parish back in a Oklahoma - led by a priest whose actions make it plain he is offering his life as a sacrifice, day by day. I feel for the practicing Catholics in Chicago trying to live through such a muck. What a burden.

Not long ago C. George removed him from his pulpit (suspended). The parishioners revolted and the suspension was truncated.

...."Cardinal George is as corrupt as Pfleger."....

Now we are getting somewhere. Where is the Cardinal on this? How about the pope? ( sounds of crickets)

This rebellion has been going on for decades and nothing has been done. The election of Obama by a majority of Catholics is a symptom of the problem. It didn't just "show up" this year. The majority of Catholics are now in the Phleger camp, IMHO, or they wouldn't put up with this.

No action = acceptance.

It's fair to berate Cardinal George on this.

It is absurd to criticize the Pope. The bishop is prince in his diocese. If the Pope were to do anything, it would be to encourage said bishop to discipline this priest. And I assure you, he wouldn't do it publicly.

PS. Just as an aside, watch some of the associated video's on women priests and other heresy and tell me we don't have problems ahead. If these people have broken off the RC, then they should be forced to change their names in court by lawsuit.
