NEW YORK TIMES TARGETS THE POPE AGAIN
Catholic League ^ | March 16, 2010 | William Donohue

Posted on 03/16/2010 7:25:56 AM PDT by Pope Pius XII

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the latest attack on the pope by the New York Times:

Once upon a time there was a homosexual priest who was accused of molesting boys in Germany. That was 30 years ago. At the approval of Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger (now the pope), he was sent away for therapy and was later reinstated; years later, under a new archbishop, there was another incident and more therapy.

We know this because the New York Times (which does not like to report on molesting rabbis in 2010), told us about this on Saturday in a front-page article. Today, it ran a front-page article on the same story. Was there any difference? Yes. On Saturday, the Times was only able to identify the priest as bearing the initial "H." Today, it has real news: his name is Hullermann. And now "H" has been suspended.

I have to agree with this assessment. The Times hates the Pope is because we don't approve of homosexual unions and of killing unborn children.

THe Slimes has reached a new low. They defend an avowed pedophile (Belzer) but condemn the whole Church for the vile crimes of a few maniacs.

No, it's because the pope sent a child molester away for therapy instead of removing him from service and when he returned to service he abused yet another child.

But don't let me confuse you with the facts.

What’s so bad about sending a priest to therapy?

Speaks volumes that this wouldn’t permanently disqualify a person from ministry. Looks like the pope has some experience in dealing with this. I wonder if he learned anything, or if this is still being dealt with quietly, with therapy. This is a crime, and apparently it is kept quiet.

How is it that even the secular world knows that these people can’t be reformed.

Besides the fact that it doesn't help child molesters?

My point is that it’s possible for them to be cured.

Ever try percentage numbers? You should look into it.

Am I the ONLY one who read a report in my local paper years ago that the psychiatrists told the Catholic church that pedophiles could be treated and cured, and the Church believed the psychiatrists and sent their wayward priests to get treatment? Obviously, the psychiatrists years later reversed their findings and the Church took the blame.

"Shut up you old anti-catholic bigot."

Matthew 7:16 makes some statements unnecessary. Those with neither an understanding of Catholic Dogma or the pshcyology of sexual predators appoint themselves judge, jury and executioner of anything involving the Catholic Church. In doing so they harm themselves and the truth more than they harm you, me or the Church.

The founding principle of the Catholic Church is the redemptive powers of Christ. Through faith in Christ no sin is unforgivable and no sinner is beyond salvation. Those who claim to be Christian yet condemn the Church for practicing this faith are hypocrites.

Is this the same NYTs that equates obama to Christ and the healthcare vote to the Last Supper? Shoosh, those secularists really love bathing in redemptive waters. Who knew?

***But don’t let me confuse you with the facts***

The facts are that the psychiatrists are to blame. They claimed that a pedophile could be cured. They were wrong! It’s time that the association of psychiatrists admitted their mistake instead of hiding behind their misdiagnosis.

Sure, let's play down the offense by stating that only 5% of the Catholic clergy have been involved in sexual abuse cases (Per the Pope in September of 2009).

The problem with that tactic is that Christianity is the largest religion in the world followed by Islam. The earth currently has about 7 billion people and 2.2 billion call themselves Christian. The Catholic church makes up over half of those Christians or 1.1 billion people. So that small 5% of clergy who serve those 1.2 billion followers is a rather large number.

4392 priests and deacons in just the U.S. had substantiated claims by their diocese.

By my moral standards, 1 offense is 1 too many.

The facts are that the psychiatrists are to blame.

Wow, I always thought the Pope and Cardinals ran the Catholic church. I never knew there was a secret order of psychiatrists behind the scenes making all the decisions for the past 50 years...

No, I have read this before too, and repeatedly recounted it to those who wish to villify those in Church leadership for their original strategy of " treatment, retreat and reassignment".

It doesn't seem to do any good; I suspect because those who wish to denegrate the Church have, by definition, no desire to give the Church the benefit of the doubt.

Once upon a time?

Once upon a time?!?

Was the homosexual priest who was accused of molesting boys the only such case in Germany in in 1980? Any homosexual priests accused of molesting boys in Germany twenty-nine years ago, in 1981? or in 82? Or yesterday? Or today?
