"Am I the ONLY one who read a report in my local paper years ago that the psychiatrists told the Catholic church that pedophiles could be treated and cured,"

The founding principle of the Catholic Church is the redemptive powers of Christ. Through faith in Christ no sin is unforgivable and no sinner is beyond salvation. Those who claim to be Christian yet condemn the Church for practicing this faith are hypocrites.

I'm a Christian and I believe in salvation and forgiveness of any sin. That said, I also believe sin should be punished and not covered up. By your logic, I can shoot the current sitting Pope yet the Catholic church would be okay with me becoming the Pope once I completed my rehabilitation.

If I shot the Pope today, would you mind me becoming your Pope tomorrow?

You are correct about the redemptive powers of Christ. But, psychiatric treatment is not the same as Confession. It’s time that the psychiatrists admit their fault in telling the Church that THEY could cure a pedophile, especially since they later said a pedophile could NOT be cured and blamed the Church for not dismissing such priests.

What in incredible pile of steaming excrement. We're condemning the Catholic Church for practicing the concealment of crimes and allowing countless children and young men to having their lives ruined. Or is that your idea of "practicing this faith"

I am a practicing Catholic and agree with your comment re: redemption except for the part where the Church allowed these molesters to have their jobs back working with children. Forgiveness is one thing... forgetting what you are dealing with is another. The Church made a huge mistake in allowing these pedophiles to continue to remain in the clergy. They should have been dismissed, allowing law enforcement to then proceed with trying and sentencing them for their crimes. To point this out does not make me a hypocrite, rather it makes those in the Church who covered up these crimes hypocrites.

All of this aside, the NYT attack on the Pope is an attempt to destroy the Church. They have a myriad of reasons for doing this, none of which has anything to do with pedophile priests. The NYT is despicable and should take the logs out of their own eyes.
