NEW YORK TIMES TARGETS THE POPE AGAIN
Catholic League ^ | March 16, 2010 | William Donohue

Posted on 03/16/2010 7:25:56 AM PDT by Pope Pius XII

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the latest attack on the pope by the New York Times:

Once upon a time there was a homosexual priest who was accused of molesting boys in Germany. That was 30 years ago. At the approval of Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger (now the pope), he was sent away for therapy and was later reinstated; years later, under a new archbishop, there was another incident and more therapy.

We know this because the New York Times (which does not like to report on molesting rabbis in 2010), told us about this on Saturday in a front-page article. Today, it ran a front-page article on the same story. Was there any difference? Yes. On Saturday, the Times was only able to identify the priest as bearing the initial "H." Today, it has real news: his name is Hullermann. And now "H" has been suspended.

Those who claim to be Christian yet condemn the Church for practicing this faith are hypocrites.

I'm a Christian and I believe in salvation and forgiveness of any sin. That said, I also believe sin should be punished and not covered up. By your logic, I can shoot the current sitting Pope yet the Catholic church would be okay with me becoming the Pope once I completed my rehabilitation.

If I shot the Pope today, would you mind me becoming your Pope tomorrow?

***The founding principle of the Catholic Church is the redemptive powers of Christ. Through faith in Christ no sin is unforgivable and no sinner is beyond salvation. Those who claim to be Christian yet condemn the Church for practicing this faith are hypocrites. ***

You are correct about the redemptive powers of Christ. But, psychiatric treatment is not the same as Confession. It’s time that the psychiatrists admit their fault in telling the Church that THEY could cure a pedophile, especially since they later said a pedophile could NOT be cured and blamed the Church for not dismissing such priests.

Any homosexual priests accused of molesting boys in Germany twenty-nine years ago, in 1981? or in 82? Or yesterday? Or today?

I'm sure there are a plethora of them however the focus of this story is the current Pope's involvement.

***Wow, I always thought the Pope and Cardinals ran the Catholic church. I never knew there was a secret order of psychiatrists behind the scenes making all the decisions for the past 50 years... ***

Now, that’s just plain silly. And you know it is. You’d be the first to blame the Church if it forbid sending a sick person to a doctor.

And yet you’re using it to discredit the Catholic faith.

Or perhaps the church could start consulting the Bible and God on these matters rather than psychiatry?

And perhaps you should stop trying to tell the Church how to do her job?

No, the Catholic faith has discredited itself.

Speaks volumes if you ask me. I rest my case.

I will do whatever necessary to protect children, because this church isn't. I have personal experience with this, your argument is with the wrong person.

"If I shot the Pope today, would you mind me becoming your Pope tomorrow?"

If your repentance and contrition were genuine and you were elected through the Tradition of Apostolic Succession by the Holy Spirit via the College of Cardinals, yes. The Catechism teaches:

1700 - The dignity of the human person is rooted in his creation in the image and likeness of God; it is fulfilled in his vocation to divine beatitude. It is essential to a human being freely to direct himself to this fulfillment. By his deliberate actions the human person does, or does not, conform to the good promised by God and attested by moral conscience. Human beings make their own contribution to their interior growth; they make their whole sentient and spiritual lives into means of this growth. With the help of grace they grow in virtue, avoid sin, and if they sin they entrust themselves as did the prodigal son to the mercy of our Father in heaven. In this way they attain to the perfection of charity.

I’m sorry you experienced it. But you don’t around saying controversial statements like that.

You've made no case and presented no facts. If anything, you have presented yourself as someone who wishes to protect those that protect pedophiles. It would have been better for you not to even have posted this thread.

Are you saying that the Church should forbid their people from ever going to a psychiatrist? Or an alcoholic should NEVER join AA?

Natural Law, canon law actually says that a man who has murdered someone cannot be a priest, let alone the Pope.

I heard this on EWTN just the other day I believe. I could be mistaken.

Forgive me father, it was my family member's fault for being molested and abused. I will not mention it again for fear of saying something controversial.

You, Pope Pius XII, can go straight to hell with the rest of the pedophiles!

My point is is that you’re acting as if psychiatry and the Bible are opposed to each other.

Well, now, look who’s being the fool now. Judging someone’s soult to hell. How Christian of you.

Did you never read what Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that you may not be judged”.

Ever try percentage numbers?

What percentage of children being abused is an acceptable number for you, PP?

Hey PP, why are you so protective of molesters? Got anything to hide?
