The Holy Ghost Testifies of Truth, Ensign, Mar 2010, 1011
The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He is a personage of spirit, without a body of flesh and bones (see D&C 130:22). He is often referred to as the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, or the Comforter. He works in perfect unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.1
As a personage of spirit, the Holy Ghost can be in only one place at a time, but His influence can be everywhere at the same time.2
President Joseph Fielding Smith (18761972) taught, Through the Holy Ghost the truth is woven into the very fibre and sinews of the body so that it cannot be forgotten.3
It is also through receiving the Holy Ghost when we repent and are baptized that we may be sanctified. Sanctification is the process of becoming free from sinpure, clean, and holythrough the Atonement of Jesus Christ (see Moses 6:5960). We are sanctified as we yield our hearts to God (see Helaman 3:35).
1. The Holy Ghost witnesses of the Father and the Son (2 Nephi 31:18). It is only through the power of the Holy Ghost that we can receive a sure testimony of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.4
2. The Holy Ghost testifies of truth, and it is through His power that we may know the truth of all things (Moroni 10:5).
3. The Holy Ghost teaches us all things and brings to our remembrance all we have learned of the Lord and His gospel (see John 14:26).
4. The Holy Ghost will show unto [us] all things what [we] should do (2 Nephi 32:5). He can guide us in our decisions and protect us from physical and spiritual danger.
5. As we hunger to know the words of eternal life and allow these words to sink deep into our hearts, the Holy Ghost will open our minds and hearts to greater light and understanding.5
6. We are blessed with gifts of the Spirit through the Holy Ghost. These gifts bless our lives and the lives of those we love and serve. (See 1 Corinthians 12:112; Moroni 10:818; D&C 46:1133.)
7. The Holy Ghost is known as the Comforter because He can fill us with hope and perfect love (Moroni 8:26).
8. Adam was the first on earth to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost (see Moses 6:6466).
9. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, we become sanctified as we repent, are baptized and confirmed, and strive to obey Gods commandments (see Mosiah 4:13; 5:16).

The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever (D&C 121:4546).
After I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him (1 Nephi 10:17).
Notes
On all threads, but particularly open threads, posters must never make it personal. Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of making it personal. Making a thread about another Freeper is making it personal.
When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun you before hitting enter.
Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.
Thin-skinned posters will be booted from open threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

Unfortunately, most of Christendom has accepted the notion that the Holy Ghost communicates through something akin to hunches, ESP or feelings. Rather, the Holy Ghost communicates through wisdom and accord. Occasionally, this can be confirmed through feelings (”Are not our hearts burning within us?”), such as joy (”the joy of the Lord is our strength”), contrition, or peace. But even such a peace is rarely contentment or tranquility (”because you are neither hot nor cold, I have vomited you”), but more often firm resolve, and fulfillment.
Such things as contentment, transquility, hunches, “inner voices,” a sense of emotional warmth, etc., are all known well to practitioners of pagan religions. They are sensual, not spiritual. Unfortunately, arguments with LDS that I have had almost always have ended up as appeals to such sensual perceptions.
It appears that the mormon view of the HG is that He is just a phone call away for verification of their doctrine and they are the only ones with His number on speed dial.
LOL
This from our resident disruptor.
Don’t forget the fourth member of the Godhead - the Divine Mother. Without the Mother there is no Son.
You'd better bow out then. lol

Just WOW
So much for an Omnipresent God...
What do mormons in order to get the mormon holy ghost to come to their own only place ??? do they take a number ??? call for an appointment ???
Do they need some kind of holyghostcare insurance to cover and pay for their visit ???
The holy ghost of mormonism is definitely NOT the Holy Ghost of Christianity...
Yeah...I heard the Holy Ghost of Mormonism doesn't smoke cigarettes or drink coffee.
27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,Almost sounds like the whole idea of marriage ceases to be meaningful in the next life. Any thoughts??28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Nicely done.
Don’......
I know, couldn’t resist. Trying though...
It always cracks me up to see that PT Barnum... Whoops, I mean Joseph Smith translated his golden tablets from masonic pseudo Egyptian glyphs into King James English!!! Ha HA. Funny stuff. But hey maybe we all take a look at the original tablets! Oh, dang it, Barnum lost them!
Holy Ghost - a ‘god’ of mormonism yet with out tangible body of flesh and bones - and yet to be human to fully qualify as a god. How does that work out, not even Elohim was able to accomplish that. This same Holy Ghost has no other name as a prematurely deified spirit child - why’s that, couldn’t smith have conjured up a name?
What happened to those tablets?
