The full quote from Smith referred to by Petersen is "The old Catholic church traditions are worth more than all you have said. Here is a principle of logic that most men have no more sense than to adopt. I will illustrate it by an old apple tree. Here jumps off a branch and says, I am the true tree, and you are corrupt. If the whole tree is corrupt, are not its branches corrupt? If the Catholic religion is a false religion, how can any true religion come out of it? If the Catholic church is bad, how can any good thing come out of it?"

Daniel Peterson? You mean the expert in linguistics? He’s one of the biggest, and I mean BIG, liars in Mormonism.

For once I actually agree with Joseph Smith.

From Vatican says Mormon baptisms are invalid

"While the Mormon baptismal rite refers to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Mormon beliefs about the identity of the three persons is so different from Catholic and mainline Christian belief that "one cannot even consider this doctrine to be a heresy arising from a false understanding of Christian doctrine," said a Vatican explanation of the ruling. Of all the religious groups that needs to be most wary of Mormon proselytizing, it should be the Catholic church and its (administrative/priestly/lay) leaders.

The Mormons' best successes in Europe is Spain. The Mormons have been pilfering among Catholics and disassociated Catholics in South & Central America + the U.S.

From the Deseret News article on the 2004 FAIR conference :

“[Daniel Peterson] said it is possible to make any religious faith look stupid, and he offered three principles for fairly dealing with other religions: 1) Don’t go to a faith’s enemies for information. Go to its adherents. 2) Don’t compare the best in your faith with the worst in the one you are criticizing. Keep a level playing field. 3) Always leave room for holy envy — what is it that this faith really does well? By following these principles, which Peterson adopted but did not invent, you can study other religions and really learn something beneficial, he said. He’s also convinced that LDS religion is a good lens through which to view other religions.”

Nephi 14:10-11:
“And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth. And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the whore of all the earth, and she sat upon many waters; and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people.”

2 Nephi 10:16:
“Wherefore, he that fighteth against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, both bond and free, both male and female, shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth; for they who are not for me are against me, saith our God.”

“What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world”
- The Prophet Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270

“...all the priests who adhere to the sectarian religions of the day with all their followers, without one exception, receive their portion with the devil and his angels.”
- The Prophet Joseph Smith , The Elders Journal, Joseph Smith Jr., editor, vol.1, no.4, p.60

Wednesday, Dec 20, 2006, at 10:47 AM Daniel Peterson Spouts Off On A Jewish Website About Baptism Of Jewish Simon Wiesenthal Posted By Zig DANIEL C. PETERSON - SECTION 2 -Guid- ↑ Daniel C. Peterson, a man EMPLOYED By the Mormon Church, decided to go and tell the Jewish People today that his cult baptised Simon Wiesenthal because Jews "are not worthy enough to receive G-d's eternal blessing on their own.". I wish to let the Jewish Community know that Daniel C. Peterson is a spokesman for the Mormon Church because he is PAID to say these kinds of things. Daniel today went to a Jewish website and wrote the following: "To Rabbi Hier's remark that "It is sacrilegious for the Mormon faith to desecrate [Simon Wiesenthal's] memory by suggesting that Jews on their own are not worthy enough to receive G-ds’ eternal blessing," "I would respond that we Latter-day Saints do, quite unapologetically, insist that Jews "are not worthy enough to receive G-d's eternal blessing" "on their own." http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blog... This guy has no shame when it comes to defending his cult. His comments have been forwarded to the Salt Lake Tribune, The Deseret News, the LDS Church Office Building, and various other news agencies in Utah. I want to make sure the LDS Church knows what this man is doing in their name http://www.mormoncurtain.com/topic_danielcpeterson_section2.html

Plainly, although none can deny some harsh rhetoric over the years, Mormon respect for Catholics long predates the 2009 centennial of the Cathedral of the Madeleine.

I find this VERY hard to believe!!

Actually, Young welcomed Catholic nuns when they started a hospital there, and even had his surgery at that hospital.

Presumably Smith would believe the bigoted rants of the Anti Catholic Protestants spread where he grew up in upper NY state...

Yea Joe was big on ceremonies and works based salvation. He actually incorporated some Roman Catholic theology in his cult.. They have the 'spirit prison' (similar concept to purgatory)...and getting a "new name" at the endowment ceremony similar to confirmation in the RC church. They believe one must be baptized (by them) to be saved and the idea that we can influence the eternity of others (praying for the dead).

He of course believed that the Rc was corrupt, and that all the religions that left during the reformation were also corrupt.. remember the endowment ceremony had a preacher be satan
