“”In a conference call with reporters, [Grant Desme] said he would join St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado, Calif., this August.””

“St. Michael’s Abbey”

My oldest son Mike, 18, flew out to California on Wednesday to spend a week with the Norbertines at St. Michael's Abby. I talked to him today. He is having a great visit, and said he's been sitting with Grant Desme, who is now a novice, at all the meals.

Mike is really impressed with the prayerful monastic life of these men. The abby celebrates a Latin Novus ordo mass daily, and the Traditional Latin Mass is offered privately by many of their priests. They celebrate the TLM on Sundays at 6 or 7 locations in the LA area.

The Norbertines require their candidates to complete two years of college prior to entering the novitiate. Mike is going to start Christendom this fall, and hopes to enter St. Michael's Abby in two years. Please keep him in your prayers.

Brian, that is so cool! What a wonderful thing, to have the call. We’ll defintely pray for him here.

And regarding Mr. Desme, I have to add that this is my favorite part in this article:
“”I wanted to give my life completely to God for love, for everything he has done for me,” Desme said. “I’m very thankful for that. Something like this is very little in comparison to what he has done for me.”

We could all give Him more. I looked seriously at the Franciscans in my youth, but didn’t hear the call. I have always admired those who do, and pray for them.

God bless you, and yours.

**The former slugger visited St. Michael’s Abbey of the Norbertine Fathers in Silverado, Calif. following the AFL season, and that’s where he’ll begin what he hopes is a 10-year journey to becoming a Catholic priest.**

It was the line that about the Norbertines that caught my attention the second time I read this.

May God bless Desme as well as your son.

I’ve been praying for your son & will continue. God bless all good men entering the priesthood.

Dr Kopp, I can only imagine how you feel. Humbled yet proud, maybe?!?!? All I can say is “wow”.
