Jesus was born a homeless child

I took my mom to church last night (Roman Catholic) and was amazed that the last song the choir sang before mass was "Jesus was born a homeless child". Is this now considered a Christmas song?

A silly notion.

The enrollment ordered by Caesar Augustus when Quirinius was governor of Syria was an enrollment of property (this fact from Roman records). The reason being of the house and lineage of David obliged (the aged) Joseph, whom Scripture records was an artisan, Holy Tradition specifying a carpenter, and thus part of the smallish middle-class during Imperial times, and his betrothed spouse the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary to travel to Bethlehem was that Joseph owned land in the vicinity of Bethlehem. Lack of suitable accommodations for travelers hardly constitutes homelessness for the travelers.

A Merry Christmas to all!

If you look at the origins of the song, “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and the story behind the author’s tour of the Holy land and how he found himself in Bethlehem, you will be even more offended and see that such garbage is even further afield from the truth.

Bethlehem was not a wealthy locale, either in the Saviour’s time, or the time of the author.

The town’s name literally means “place of bread” (very appropriate for the “Bread of Life” to be born there, and laid in a manger, which was a feed trough where grain for livestock was poured out).

Think of the symbols here - the Bread of Life wrapped in swaddling clothes (grave clothes); from His very birth surrounded by the trappings of corruption and death which inevitably result from sin.

Those who preach nonsense and heresies like those spoken about in this thread in the name of self serving psycho-babble, or agendas driven by political correctness...

Might as well tie millstones around their necks and cast them into the sea.

Blessed Christmas to you and all who hold dear the truth and seek Christ as he was, and is, and ever shall be

A.A.C.

He was homeless. Once again, because of the government. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Outstanding point!

Well, people have all sorts of ideas about Jesus and make up all sorts of songs to fit their views -- but the one view of Jesus that a lot of people don't like talking about is when He comes back "looking for bear!"... :-)

At Christmas -- a lot of people think about a cute little baby Jesus or a very nice man who said nice things to people, was uplifting, and healed a bunch of people...

What people really need to remember is that there's this "big bad Jewish fellow" out there, who's showing up soon, sorta unexpected, and he's "looking for bear" and is gonna open up "the biggest can of whoop-ass" you've ever seen in your life, on a bunch of people here on earth. LOL...

However, many fail to understand -- but they will "understand" when the Messiah of Israel returns to this earth, sets His feet on the soil of this globe, and sets up the ruling authority -- the one-world government -- that He puts into place over all nations, including the United States.

He's the Messiah of Israel, that He is coming back to earth, to set up a one-world government, with His headquarters in Jerusalem, ruling over all the nations of the world, including the United States and will rule over all who are still alive (from who are living right now today) -- and that He will definitely scrap the Constitution of the United States and make Himself the supreme ruler over all that we do.

The "day of reckoning" is coming for all of those who are trying to take over the world and put it totally under their control in an evil one-world empire. And they do admit that they want a one-world government -- their government, not God's...

When the Messiah of Israel comes back to this earth to set up His one-world government and subject all the nations of the world to His authority and rule -- He'll be making real short work of any of those yahoos...

And you can be sure that He will be utterly destroying anything to do with any of these yahoos, since whatever they say and do is a total perversion of anything to do with the Messiah of Israel.

And for sure -- we all, in this world, need the Messiah of Israel back, here on earth -- to destroy this coming one-world government and to install His own one-world government in its place.

I'm looking forward to the coming Kingdom on earth and the one-world government that the Messiah of Israel will be setting up, after He destroys, by His own hand, the present and evil one-world government that we see forming right now.

    Isaiah 9:6-7

For unto us a Child is born.
    Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
    Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace
    There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

The song was factually incorrect.

Yes, I had to point this fact out to the deacon of my former parish a few years back. It drives me nuts when they simply distort things to promote an agenda. For Heaven's sake, there are plenty of ways to encourage people to be aware of the unfortunate during this time of year. Why do they have to warp the manifest sense of the Gospel to get their point across? Oh, that's right: sentiment always trumps fact for a lib.

...and his parents did what they could to acquire reasonable shelter, made do with what they had, and worked hard (carpenter) to overcome the issue and return to their home.

His family didn’t flaunt the gifts (not handouts) received, and taught him a trade.

They didn’t whine that their housing was Rome’s problem.

Did the government at the time have to make everyone travel to their city of birth in order to be taxed? Wouldn't it have been easier for Joseph just to write 'Bethlehem' under 'place of birth' on a census form?

(Don't misunderstand me, I believe the Bible story. I just think this whole story illustrates pointless, arbitrary government rules.)

Also the sermon was dedicated to the evils of war ...

How long would the lineage of David have lasted if the early Jews had been pacifists?

I had to look that up :) Here it is for other Freepers—

My priest is from Malta. He just shook his head when I mentioned to him about the Christmas decorations on the WH tree.

Some pics from Midnight Mass.

Totally untrue! Jesus was the Son of Mary, who was married to Joseph who was an independent small businessman, a tradesman who paid TAXES!

I was born a poor black child——

My son really was black as the ace of spades when he was born due to his oxygen being cut off during delivery-— at one point later in life when he was ill with cancer, he was in the hospital and fed up with repeating over several times his history and physical, and that phrase was how he responded to yet another person coming in asking the same questions.

Made her angry, made his feel better.

NIV has Ecclesiastes 10:2 as:

The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.

That's the translation I pass on to liberals, who generally need direct, non-ambiguous language ... plus, liberals love to use words like "incline" or "lean." Good verse either way, eh?

I'm thinking of printing a bumper sticker.

I talked to my sister and mom this afternoon at Christmas dinner. Mom does want to change as she also hates the clapping and the singing (I hate it when the musical director takes charge of mass). There are actually 3 churches in their town, so they can change easily. Writing a letter to the bishop sounds like a good idea, as he is also the bishop where I am located and I think he is pretty conservative. Apparently this is a new priest and he is pissing off a lot of people.

Shark, I’m glad you didn’t roll into the movie line about his “first job”...LOL.

At least he had enough sense to demand the fresh wine, not that old stuff!;-D

Merry Christmas.
