Jesus-era leper sheds light on Turin shroud mystery

Israel experts said on Wednesday that a burial shroud known as the Turin shroud, assumed to be the type used to wrap the body of Jesus, did not actually originate from Jesus-era Jerusalem.

The conclusion was based on excavation discoveries of a first-century C.E. shrouded man found in a tomb on the edge of the Old City of Jerusalem, which also revealed the earliest proven case of leprosy.

Along with the DNA of the shrouded man, this was the first time that fragments of a burial shroud have been found from the time of Jesus in Jerusalem, which, unlike the complex weave of the Turin Shroud, this shroud was made up of a simple two-way weave, as the textiles historian Dr. Orit Shamir was able to show...

1 Corinthians 11:14 -Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

Either the Shroud of Turin is a relic of Christ's burial, or it is not.

Either way, it does not affect my faith. I do not worship relics, but the risen Christ.

If it is indeed genuine, well, that is neat!

If not, it is still an historical and archaeological curiosity, and intriguing nonetheless.

So many act as if the provenance of a piece of fabric is the basis for belief in Christianity, as if finding it to not be Jesus' shroud would prove anything.

As far as Christ taking the "dead" girl's hand. Go back and re-read what His response was to those who commented on her being dead. What did He say?

According to the KJV, He said she wasn't dead, but sleepeth.

With Lazarus, he spoke, "Lazarus, come forth".

You might want to do a but of research before saying such as,

That is imprecise. Wikipedia, though not the best source, can convey condensed info. Other expanded commentary can be found elsewhere easily enough. I did as much before posting to you. It's only a few clicks away...

I have to say I haven't read much Calvin, but if this is an example of his "reasoning", I don't understand why anyone would follow him.

You have a pretty good grasp of Calvin. ;O)

Christ also said that Lazaruz was sleeping at first and then finally came right out and said he was dead. Likewise in various other places things such as, “he slept with his fathers” shows us clearly that to God death is but sleep. So you made a mistake in thinking Jesus was a Nazarite. It’s not a big deal and I only wanted to let you know that wasn’t the case.
Perhaps I should have mailed it to you instead.

The slightly wounded long haired guy on the shroud is not our Lord. Our Lord really took a beating for you and me. Christ was clean cut and looked like everyone else in His day. He didn’t stand out for any particular reason.

Put away your pride. I’m your brother.

What do you base your assumptions upon? I made a mistake in assuming he was a Nazerite? You certainly didn't offer any proof of that, beyond your own mere opinion.

Clean cut, huh? Where in the earliest records, including the New Testament does it say that? It does explicitly say he had a beard. That pretty much blows the "clean-cut" idea.

Earliest traditional understandings where that he not only a beard (as it is written) but long hair too. The oldest, earliest art (of which for the most part, only later versions of have survived) show him with long hair and a beard.

Did you bother to look into the various Nazarene vows that were made? They were not all for life. looking into such myself, it appeared much more common for one to take the vows for brief periods, than for any to take it for life.

Like I said, it's only a few clicks away.

As far as Him drinking wine, other than mention of accusation against him (hanging around with wine drinkers) there isn't any mention of him drinking any, except for that one time, in the upper room with the apostles, as far as I can recall. Other than that, I hear He was a great vinter --- on His first try!

You've made various claims, but sorry, I'm not willing to take your own word in regards to such things.

Go take a nap. After you get a little rest you’ll be OK. Night
