"Only about one-quarter of U.S. Catholics say they attend Mass every week, and a majority go to religious services a few times a year or less, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University, which conducts social science research about the Catholic church."

Where even fewer attend and fewer are taught.

This ex won't be coming back. Far too many marxists and their supporters in the church.

Those people don’t sound very Catholic to me. The Episcopalians who claim to be Anglican Catholics seem just as Catholic...and they belong to what is little more than the church of faggotry.

Gimmicks won’t work. Others denominations have tried this, and it is a failure. I would suspect that the vast majority of those that have left the Roman Catholic Church or have stopped attending did not do so because they were unfamiliar with the teachings and practices of the church. This attempt is little more than a feel good effort on the part of those that wish to reach out to former Catholics.

At the parish where I grew up we had a "Welcome Sunday" just before Lent. Lapsed parishioners were invited to come back. People who had been away for years would come back and be able to experience the penitential season and then Easter. It was a wonderful to see so many people return to the Church.

I always wondered why more parishes did not do this.

What draws someone to the church is the WORD, not a gimmick, isn’t it?

The scandal of Ted’s funeral didn’t help very much. General opinion is (again) that the rules are only for the “little people.”

**In addition to Sacramento, dioceses in Chicago, Omaha, Providence, R.I., and four other cities will launch the “Catholics Come Home” advertising blitz during Advent, the period before Christmas.**

A good time to do this. We alwasy advertise for our returning Catholic group before Christmas and before Easter. Also in the Christmas and Easter bulletin so that we get the C and E Catholics.

Churches all over our diocese are asking the leaders of our Catholic Can Come Home Again to visit their parishes and explain what we have been doing. We have anywhere from four to over 20 returning Catholics in any one session and we have been doing it for over five years.

I watch (and generously donate to) EWTN when I want a dose of solid Catholicism. I speak as a non-Catholic who may one day convert.

I can’t and won’t try to explain it but Sunday Mass for me is my way of keeping in touch with everything I love.

A Catholic here but haven’t gone to Mass much in the past couple of years other than Christmas and Easter. I have to confess that when I go to the confession the next time, I have too much to confess, it’ll take all night.

I think just fixing the liturgy would bring more Catholics back to the Church. Unfortunately, that will not happen until most of the bishops, and a fair percentage of priests, retire.

As the Catholic Church returns to it’s roots - the people will also return to the Church...

As Peter, the first Pope, said “Where can we go”, it’s still true today. Following truth leads to Rome. “That we all be one.”

Home is where the priest has his back to the people and isn’t any alphabet soup sect such as the NO, SSPX, SSPV, CMRI, FSSP; nor does it pay allegiance to 5 bogus men who’ve usurped the papacy since Pope Pius XII was assassinated in 1958; nor does it pay allegiance to the Antichrist’s Vatican “II” council.
