I read on facebook a woman who watched Senator Kennedy's funeral mass, stated that President Obama received Holy Communion. Is this true? Did anyone watch the Mass?
AS I said I do not because I respect my friend’s religious affiliation. When they attend the church where I attend we have no such prohibition. If they chose to partake ( and some do) that’s fine with me.
I don’t understand your comment to me since I never suggested that I partook of communion in an RC mass
Yep. When 57% of Catholics voted for him. Except it was unholy communion.
What???? you make no sense
do you mean fair is fair?
A non-Catholic can go up and get Blessed by the Priest but Communion, never. He may have gotten a Blessing which is a cross on the forehead.

The guidelines for receiving Communion, which are issued by the U.S. bishops and published in many missalettes, explain, "We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christs prayer for us that they may all be one (John 17:21).
"Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law. . . . "
Scripture is clear that partaking of the Eucharist is among the highest signs of Christian unity: "Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread" (1 Cor. 10:17). For this reason, it is normally impossible for non-Catholic Christians to receive Holy Communion, for to do so would be to proclaim a unity to exist that, regrettably, does not.
Another reason that many non-Catholics may not ordinarily receive Communion is for their own protection, since many reject the doctrine of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Scripture warns that it is very dangerous for one not believing in the Real Presence to receive Communion: "For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died" (1 Cor. 11:2930).
I agree am not worthy on my own, but I have been made worthy by the Blood of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That gift of Grace was given to me when I accepted Him as my Lord.
As for deflecting the cameras, I agree with that. Communion, and the taking or not taking of it, is a personal, private thing between an individual and God. And it's no one else's business.
Searching around the Net, it appears the live feed at the funeral (there was only one) panned away to a group of singers (for 10 minutes no less) at the time the Obamas would of been receiving communion.
I hold no brief for O'Malley (principally, but not entirely, because of his [expletive deleted] response to Summorum Pontificum, but as late as Friday, according to the radio citing the Chancery as the source, O'Malley planned to be in Denver Saturday. And all week on the local news, there was never a mention of who would celebrate the funeral Mass.
The Mass was said at Mission Church, AFAIK under the control of the Redemptorists, who don't really answer to the Archdiocese the way diocesan priests do, and the Redemptorists are not noted for their orthodoxy. I heard that the Kennedys wanted the Cathedral and were refused.
Cdl. O'Malley looked very unhappy about being there and he took no real part in the proceedings. Blackmail is such an ugly word, but there are a lot of ways the local pols could hurt the Archdiocese. (They're doing it anyway.)
Bill Donohue on Laura Ingram this a.m. said he'd never seen a funeral Mass for someone of TKs stature with so few priests. And, personally, I suspect that TK may have been buried at Arlington because O'Malley refused him burial in a Catholic cemetery.
I too wish O'Malley had come out with a blistering statement. OTOH, I'm not the one who would have had to make the statement and I'm not the one who would be responsible for repercussions that would fall on the Archdiocese.
He’s a devout muslim, so I doubt it . . . unless he wanted to insult all Catholics
Thank-you. I tried to find videos too.
In Catholic Churches, yes. But there is a possibility a non-Catholic (not in full communion with the Church) can received the Eucharist.
Thank you for the correction. I assumed to much and made myself look like a you-know-what.
Did I say YOU did? I did not. I stated what I stated as a general principle. If you didn’t have such a hair-trigger perspective you would have seen I was agreeing with you.
Anything is possible. Denominational satanists pay people in their cult/recruitment to go to RC Churches and get hosts and are paid $50 a host.
I’m not certain what point you are making. Are you saying that unless the Pope does it, it doesn’t count or matter? Did the Pope reprimand Cardinal O’Malley? As I said, I’m confused by your answer. Does a Cardinal not represent the Holy Father?
Christians who are not Catholics do not believe in transubstantiation. ‘...For my flesh is real food; my blood is real drink...Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me, and I in them (..)’ Jesus said this as he taught in the synagogue in Capernaum. Many of his followers heard this and said ‘..this teaching is too hard. Who can listen to it?...’ Because of this, many of Jesus followers turned back and would not go with him any more. So he asked the remaining twelve disciples And you, would you also like to leave?.... (Jn 6: 25 - 67)The thought alone by some Protestants is repulsive. The Catholic mass revolves around this most important sacrament. You’ve probably seen a Catholic cross him/herself when driving by a Catholic Church giving reverence to the Body of Christ.
What a gracious response! :)
