I read on facebook a woman who watched Senator Kennedy's funeral mass, stated that President Obama received Holy Communion. Is this true? Did anyone watch the Mass?
I think the question was more that did a Catholic Priest administer Communion to a non catholic???
I meant no offense BTW...
It was Roman Catholic... I’m amazed you don’t remember.
Here’s another non-Catholic politician recieving The Host.

It is not considered acceptable for a non-communicant (ie a non RC) not be given the elements.
I am not RC by faith ( or heritage) I just know that it is frowned upon ( as my friends who are remind when I go to mass with them)
My impression was just as the Media portrayed the sickly JFK as vigorous and athletic and lied about his many physical ailments(back problems, Addison's disease, colitis, STD’s etc), the Media is lying about Ted Kennedy's many moral flaws and trying to falsely portray him as a man of sincere faith with a strong moral and spiritual code.
It can only happen in extreme circumstances (danger of death, etc...)
As we have all witnessed, if you are rich and powerful, the Roman Catholic Church will make “exceptions” for non-Catholics to receive the Eucharist. Why not? If the Church will conduct the funeral rites for Ted Kennedy, it is capable of doing just about anything. There is a profound division in what the Roman Catholic Church supposedly believes, and what it practices.
Why not? Notre Shame gives him an honorary degree and Georgetown covers up the IHS and cross for 0bambi’s pleasure.
It won’t be long before Matthews reports on the wine changing into vinegar and the feeding of thousands with 2 fish.
If true, this is one of the possible fallouts and scandals the Archdiocese of Boston (Cardinal O’Malley) encouraged when allowing Ted Kennedy to get a full and public Catholic funeral.
This was Cardinal O'Malley's decision, not the Pope's. The Pope is not a CEO.
Some boston newspaper is the only reported answer to this I saw. I do not have the link at this moment.
They said he did not, he stood up to let others (Biden’s?) pass.
It’s not that it’s frowned upon, it’s that St. Paul said he who eats and drinks the Body & Blood unworthily eats and drinks damnation upon himself and we don’t want you to go to hell.
Sound's like you may be racist. Why would you deny Obama communion? Clinton got communion. Where was our concern then? Why are we not concerned about Biden, Pelosi, and Kerry? It's because Obama is Black, isn't it? Obama is the second coming anyway, what's the beef?
Q. Who was allowed to take Communion?
A. Communion in Catholic churches is restricted to Catholics in good standing, but no announcement was made, there was no reference to a restriction in the program, and anybody who came forward would receive Communion. Camera angles were restricted so that they did not show exactly who took Communion, but the prominent non-Catholic elected officials, such as President Obama, remained in their pews during Communion.
and you and I can have a long theological discussion as to what “unworthily” means
There was a live thread. Read that so I wouldn’t watch it on TV.
If you’re not Catholic why on earth would you take communion from a RC priest? It’s not just ‘do as the romans do’.
Communion in Catholic churches is restricted to Catholics in good standing. <-———— Period
I recall President Bush attending a Catholic Mass. He did approach the alter but crossed his arms over his chest, as is appropiate for non Catholics. He received a blessing from the priest.
