Just Got a Scary Call from a US Census Worker Part 2

Yesterday I told you all about my disturbing call from a census worker. You can read the account here. I didn't have time to tell you the rest of the story which was even more disturbing. Someone who posted on the thread suggested that this call might be fraud and to find out the number from caller ID. I did, and called back the number. I spent some time getting info from the census worker since she called from a local number. She was calling from here home. I got her name, where she lived and the name and number of her supervisor. I thought that was the end of it. However, several minutes later, her supervisor called me. She identified herself as a deputy secretary for the commerce department. She was typically pushy, rude and frustrating. In my frustration, I made a critical error. I said, listen, the only information that I am constitutionally required to provide the census is the number of people that are in my household, and I will be instructing my congregation to provide the census only that information. She said, well why is that and I replied, I do not support the political agenda behind the 2010 census. Her final reply was, well have a blessed day reverend and she hung up. Now I an afraid I and my church are on "the list".

This is disturbing and I've given some thought to this problem during past months. We live "rural" but have neighbors. I envision a carload of "ACORN" types showing up and, for all practical purposes, invading our home. Therefore, I have designed an approach to these people. First, I will tell them in no uncertain terms that their visit will not become an inquisition and that when I feel that they have the information required, they will be asked to leave. In addition, I will inform them that their visit will not be allowed to become a home invasion and that they will not be allowed to wander about the house.

We've discussed this with our neighbors and we've developed a reciprocal agreement wherein if we/they see such a "census" visit developing we will "intervene" each with a visit to the other's home.
